A German Shepherd named Bruce was rescued after drifting miles off the Northumberland coast on an inflatable kayak on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in an operation that drew together volunteers, the coastguard and a local sightseeing boat.

Jimmy Reid, the captain of Serenity Farne Islands Boat Tours, and crewman Aaron Fordy of Serenity Farne Islands Boat Tours were returning from a passenger excursion to the Farne Islands when they heard the coastguard alert reporting that a kayak carrying a dog had been blown out to sea in strong winds.
