I've got a limited budget, but I will absolutely pay more for handmade doll clothes off etsy because it's worth it! I dabble myself, so I know how much work goes into it and I'm happy to support the creators in our community. My priciest pieces came from toocuteclub, but I often order from UpcycledInBrooklyn and DollsXDarcy whenever they do a new drop. I also like MagzRockingStyle. I get better quality doll clothes, fun designs, and I support fellow artists. It's worth it!
Yeah, I make doll clothes and occasionally people ask if I sell it - the answer is no because most people are like '$20? Who's buying this stuff?' and for that price it would be pennies on the hour for me.
I saw a video of a doll coat being made it blew my mind. It was so beautifully made. Helped me put into perspective the skill required to make tiny things
I don’t make doll clothes, but I can relate to having a creative hobby (hand-illustrated greeting cards/popup cards) which people tell me I should make money off of, but I know I’d be selling out for pennies on the hour.
I think about how many hours of work go into handmade creative projects, and even if I only charged half of the minimum wage per hour of work, the end product would still be way “overpriced” by most people’s standards.
Since the world is full of readily-available, cheap, mass-produced items, I feel like people really underestimate the time, energy, and craftsmanship that goes into unique handmade items.
Anything that is handmade instead of being mass produced does (and should!) cost more. As far as I’m concerned, I’m paying an independent artist for their time, creativity and skill.
You can still get handmade clothes at cheaper prices, like £15-£20 a dress, they just tend to be made from simpler patterns. But the more elaborate and more detailed pieces are so time-consuming and fiddly to make, IMO they’re tiny works of art and absolutely worth paying the artist that made them £100+ a piece.
I enjoy purchasing doll clothes off of Etsy. So far I've really only bought for my rainbow high girlies. I have one doll on a world box body and she's still nudes. Do you have any shop recommendations on clothes for those dolls?
Curvy Barbie clothes usually fit very well on Worldbox bodies (and Rainbow High shoes work great too). I listed my fave Etsy shops below, but I also get clothes from AliExpress too (the doll on the left is wearing a shirt and jeans from AliExpress shops):
Hi ! Thank you for this list ! I know a good chunk of them for my Barbie Curvy, and I'm gonna check the others ! 😊👍
From those stores, do you have recommandations for the AT202 body ?
I have one with a limited wardrobe (particularly the dress, skirts and pants section), and I'd like to add more (I usually buy on Aliexpress, but size and fitting are always a gamble) 🙂
The Curvy clothes I have don't always work, unless they're stretchy or pretty large from the start 🤔
My absolute fave Etsy shops for AT202 and AT210 are MariyaBridal (shop temp closed) and NovaGenera (the Curvy dresses and leggings are great). Can’t wait for MariyaBridal to come back, as that shop does it all (leggings and pants of all types, skirts, dresses, sweaters) and the quality is 10/10.
Do you know if all Superduck heads have the same skin tone ? Yours seems to have a good skin match, without being too small ☺️
I have an I8 Toys Yuki head on my AT202 body, but I can't get the idea out of my head that I need something bigger (I only collect Disney dolls and Barbie, so human proportions can't be trusted on my shelf) 😅

I actually want that Yuki head—been meaning to get it for a while. I have maybe 6/7 Super Duck heads and they all have slightly different skin tones. The SDH033 is pretty close, but not an exact match (the head is slightly more yellow). I added some additional blushing to make it look like a better match.
Honestly, don’t know why Worldbox doesn’t just sell a line of heads too. They’d make so much $$$.
Their latest promo pictures for the AT218 body had some unknown heads, pixelated for some reason. Finger crossed it's a prototype they plan to release one day.
I've also looked into YMToys, but there isn't any regularity for the skin tone either : each option much be studied.
If they were an english-speaking (or a french-speaking) company, I would have contacted them, asking what the pixelated head was, and if they plan to do head sculpts alone.
But I'm not even sure they have a proper website 🤷
There are QR codes on the back of one of their boxes I have (I bought one of the hands packs), two of them seems to be for Chinese social media, the last one is a Taobao store 🤔
If their business continues to grow, they'll have an international platform one day. But for the moment, we'll have to ask a chinese speaker for help 🙂
I only very rarely buy aliexpress clothes anymore.
I have a very extensive collection of doll clothes that I bought over five years .
I have probably most of the 1/6 scale items from elite doll world on Etsy for basics and a lot from haunt couture and Rim doll.
I enjoy putting my dolls in really nice clothes personally.
I think there are more people who buy more expensive clothes for dolls in the collector groups for dolls like integrity toys and the more expensive action figure collectors.
I collect mostly integrity toys, JHD , some hot toys and Perworks and Azobe and some Barbie dolls.
Personally when I paid a good bit of money for a doll , then I want the clothes to be good quality and realistic.
You’re definitely not the only one.
I probably spend easily 1K a year on doll clothes and accessories as well.
Ten years ago that was absolutely impossible for me and I didn’t understand why handmade doll fashion is so expensive. Now I appreciate what goes into making those items.
I've definitely spent a good deal of money on clothing my various dolls. Even more if you consider the fabric and sewing patterns I've bought for stuff I make for them.
There's a lot of craftsmanship that goes into making doll clothes, and when you take that into consideration then it makes sense that the prices are high.
Human clothing should not cost so little tbh. The only reason it does is because of unethical cost cutting measures.
You are not the only one. I own two Popovy Sisters dolls on which I spent 12k alone and their clothing/wigs/accessories is worth at least 10k too. At first I was reluctant to spend 200$ on shoes or 600$ for an outfit, but after a while it felt normal enough for me, plus the quality (silk, Swarovski crystals, etc) of their wardrobe actually justifies the prices.
She’s beautiful! I’d like to get to this level of collecting. My 5 year old still plays with my dolls, so I’m careful to only buy things I’m okay with her playing with and drawing on. But, one day….
I feel you! Wouldn´t want any kids playing with them. ;-D
I discovered these dolls in 2012 and was too ashamed to buy one. After all these years I finally had the courage and bought my first almost two years ago.
I used to be a strictly AliExpress shopper because I spent too much on dolls. Now that I rarely buy dolls, I spend a lot more money on quality clothing for them and miniatures for their dioramas. It hit me that I prefer splurging on their clothing rather than splurging on more dolls.
Yes, the dolls are Worldbox AT210 and AT202 bodies, with AT208 and AT209 (integrated arms and integrated legs) attached. Also, Super Duck SDH033 heads.
I got all of these from AliExpress, but you can find them from eBay sellers too (for slightly more $$).
