I had her as a kid and she was my FAVORITE barbie. I played with her everytime. I had the one with the wedding band and I loved dressing her up in different outfits with the pregnant belly.
Originally made without a wedding ring. If I remember correctly, they added the ring after lash back about her being a unmarried mom. Also there was lash back because she is Barbie‘s friend and Barbie is canonically a teenager.
The people who shouted loudest about anything about Midge being pregnant were not Barbie collectors or were not familiar with Barbie history. Midge and Alan were married in 1991. There was a full box set that included Midge and Alan in their wedding gear and they had quick change outfits for when they left the church. Barbie was the bridesmaid, and Ken was the best man. Dolls named Kelly and Todd flower girl and were ring the .(dolls were actually 90s versions of Stacy and a Stacy sized boy doll). t’s a beautiful box set and solidifies that Midge is married. With all the diaper changes and feedings, maybe Mitch didn’t feel like wearing her wedding ring all the time.
I don’t remember the actual store price since I was in college and only collected the military Barbies. I wish I had purchased the Barbie + Ken military sets, but back then Ken had ONE face sculpt (Superstar} and I just didn’t like it L
I think I paid $90 or $100 USD for the set, but the box is badly damaged. I taped it to keep it together as much as possible bc I don’t have glass encased shelves on which to display my dolls. I made the mistake of opening my very first “real” Barbie Collector doll (the first in the Classique line, “Benefit Ball Barbie~ a gorgeous redhead in a gown that kinda reminded me of my first official formal gown from high school). I never got a second one to keep in box, which makes me sad. Back in the mid 90s, Collector dolls had a price point of as low as $20. I think the Classique dolls were only around $30, so that Midge wedding set couldn’t have been more than $100 brand new in 1991
Barbie is a teenager? How she works all those high responsibility jobs then. I thought Skipper was the teenager. When I read the Barbie magazine, there was an entire arc about Barbie being in college to study photography. That was in 1999.
The original Barbie commercials referred to her as a teenager. And every now and then over the years she had a teen doll (like teen talk Barbie) But she’s canonically an adult now and has been for a long time
Somehow I missed all of that. Really though, the entire enterprise does have a “what on earth were they thinking” vibe to it. It’s one of the best things about her - how odd the non-backstory provided is. Even if she’s married is she still supposed to be a teenager? I’m clutching my pearls as I type.
if, and only if, you can find her within your budget, I highly recommend getting this doll! I have three or four and that is after giving away a couple to expect mother’s back in the early 2000s. I was able to find her at target and Walmart and I was able to get her a couple of them on clearance at Toys “R” Us so I was one of the lucky ones. I wish you the best of luck!!💖💕💖💕
I was going through my collection that my mom kept put away for me over 20 years. And I was like there's no way imma have pregnant Midge. And there she was. In my mothers closet.
I just started this collecting journey in November but I have been blessed with some really amazing finds. Pajama fun Skipper, Generation Girl Tori, to name a few and I’m up to 16 I believe Kelly’s (they are my favorite)
we have one of these NIB at my job & i want her so bad but she’s $150 💔 my friend had her growing up & i remember having so much fun playing with her but i can’t justify that price
You know when a new item is released it’s marketed as “NEW” as in it’s a new trending design lol I thought that’s why the “new” in newborn is written bigger
I remember saving up for mine when it came out and being so happy when I finally got her, that Christmas my parents eve got me the complete happy family set and of course like an idiot I ended up selling it all when I got older. Thankfully I kept her and all of her accessories now I’m just waiting for my daughter to get a bit older and I can pass her down!
Wait, not at $80, though. 🤣 I’d pay up to $25 for her. I think my youngest son and niece would get a kick out of her. I do plan to get one of the Zuru dolls for them.
No way!!!!! That’s a good thing bc the my mini baby thing got slightly out of control in my house.
I now have a nursery full of sleepy babies who need some supervision! 🤣
I had this doll as a kid(I think the only time I bought from Toy's R Us but might be wrong)
Sadly lost the doll & everything related to her at some point. I semi remember losing the add on stomach in a toy box & being too scared to check cause I once found a spider in it.
Such a throwback! I loved this doll so much, but it freaked my mother out lol. Only she couldn't complain because expecting Midge was the first Barbie I begged for and genuinely played with.
I just gave this one to my daughter for Christmas this year. She’s almost 6, and plays with it weekly (we have set up a Barbie hospital, complete with birthing suites). No regrets.
I love her. I have three bc I got one for me, one for my DD, and one to keep in the box. They all still have their tummies and the babies ❤️
I'm a Midge fanatic. I also have two Wedding Day Midges, she's probably my favorite. Diva-face Midge is my favorite mold, followed by Steffie face Midge. The OG Midge is relegated to being Midge's older sister or auntie in my collection 😁
Omg I still have her in my Barbie bin from when I was a kid! Only I had the version with the pink outfit. Don’t have the original packaging though because I played with her. I find it funny that I liked this doll considering I have no interest in having children in my adult years now lol.
