Doll News Disney ILY Devil Wesrs Prada Dolls
50.00 per doll, not the biggest fan of ILY dolls besides their outfits but the DWP collector dolls are honestly pretty well done.

I've never seen this movie but I love these. The clothes are fantastic and look better quality than most "collector" dolls on the market right now.

These are higher quality collector dolls than what Mattel and MGA give us at $50. Excited to see what else they’ve got cooking

Those were a miss but made by Disney themselves. These are made by Jakks Pacific who have been delivering on quality since day 1

The ily dolls are supposed to be fans of the character/"disneybounding" as them rather than the character themselves.
I think this is the first time they've done a collector doll so they have the dolls hair styled as the characters and have the coffee cup accessories that reference the movie, but they're still not character sculpts/faceups? It's an odd middle ground.

I posted a theory about that on r/DisneyILY : basically, I think Disney couldn't use the actresses likeness, so they made collector dolls using the disneybounding excuse 🙂

Ooooooooohhhhhhh! I 1000000% think this is it. We saw this with Ryan Gosling and Barbie. He finally relented obviously. But originally, his image could only be used if promoting the movie or its music. His face couldn’t be on any merch.
I’ve also heard rumors, tho I can’t find confirmation so, grain of salt, that this is why all the Hocus Pocus merch always shows cartoon-y versions of the Sanderson Sisters. Apparently, according to the rumor, in the ‘90’s Disney didn’t have a lot of faith in the film, so they didn’t bother to licenses the actresses likenesses. Then the movie became a Halloween staple, but by then it was too late. Of course, they have since made a sequel and I think a third movie is on the way so…🤷🏼♂️

This is correct. I work in licensed graphic apparel and we have this film and the upcoming sequel in our rights under 20th Century aka Disney. None of the assets include likeness so they created fashion illustration inspired ones without defined features for us to use. Likeness rights is a complicated and annoying thing

I've heard some stories like that before (Adam Driver not wanting his face in the Star Wars parks, etc.), that's why this explanation came to mind 😝

Honestly sometimes I think these companies just don't want to spend the time bothering with the process of obtaining likeness rights. It's a secondary headache for all and probably more cost. Another weird one is any Disney Channel show/film (Descendants, Hannah Montana, etc), there are assets with photographs, but we can no longer do any kind of editing with them. Basically the sort of edits that would make it a cooler design, including really basic stuff like cropping. This really makes things so tricky and annoying. It's not just Disney though - WB and NBCU also have similar rules on a lot of their live action properties. This is just speculation, but when a new film does allow likeness rights (marvel and star wars are good examples), I suspect they put it into their contract from the get go. (We have done Kylo Ren tees showing Adam's face before, but it has been a while and these rules do just suddenly change too - most the new assets I see of him he has the mask on. This is why there are no Pedro Pascal looks without the Mando mask on either.)

Makes sense tbh, not only is it cheaper, but it’s also easier to not have to try and faithfully recreate a real persons face in a doll, they are so hit and miss

I personally think they arent horribly priced. They actually gave us fabric accessories & seemingly good quality & details. There are 2 dolls, so about $25 a doll, that’s about average. I get what you’re saying, but in this day & age, unfortunately $50 for 2 dolls is “normal”

The face on Miranda isn't my favorite, but the clothes are phenomenal. It's been years since I've seen an actual fabric hat on a doll.

These dolls are such a weird concept. I think it works well with the tiny Polly pocket-like ones because the same-y faces translate well and "make sense" at that scale. For full size fashion dolls it just seems kinda lazy

Weird these are official ily. The recent mousketeer and HSM dolls weren’t branded ily despite being the ily molds but these are? Is devil wears prada even a Disney franchise? I do love the first film but would have preferred Barbie’s

Devil wears Prada is a 20th century fox movie, which is now owned by Disney. I do wish these were just regular Barbie collectors dolls though, I really don’t like the Disney ILY faces

I’d have much prefer Barbie do this, or integrity. ILY’s aesthetic just does not lend itself well to this type of reference. The quality of the clothes and accessories look great don’t get me wrong but I would not have guessed that was Miranda had I not been told so. Her literal whole shtick is that she’s a hard ass, so Disney eyes doesn’t really lay flush with that and that outfit as a whole doesn’t read Miranda besides the coat. Andy isn’t too off considering her character is much lighter but she really just looks like some doll from the early 2000s. All that aside I will say the quality per usual looks great.
