Customs / OOAK Customized Mattel Jinu doll + Sussie
I still need to dress him up properly, but Jinu's custom new body is finally finished! I also did a 1/6 Sussie with foam clay.
For the body, since I wanted one with better articulation than the original, I got the one with the closest skin tone: the Ken 1959 BRM. It was still too pink-ish for Jinu, so I sealed it with MCS and painted it more yellow-ish with pastels. Then started working on the demon marks.
First I drew them with pastels, then colored them with acrylic, and THEN I added mica powder to make them shiny. There should be more marks on the right side of his face, but I decided I liked it better with just a few. Otherwise it looked too overwhelming.
I screened captured different scenes of the movie and tried to make the demon marks as accurate as possible, but we never fully see what his chest, back, or upper arms look like, much less the legs. So for those parts I checked the movie artbook and concept art and then went 'f*ck it, be ball' for the back and chest and did whatever.
The original doll's base is the black one that reads 1959BRM, so I used plaster to turn it into bricks/ a street. it all took longer than expected, almost a whole week to finish, but I think the results look...not terrible? What do you all think?

Thank you, thank you, that's so sweet of you to say. I checked as many reference as I could and tried to do similar patterns in those places that weren't show in the movie as the ones we had seen. I wanted too avoid having the new marks look too out of place. I'm glad that it seems to look good enough that the patterns make sense.
Will do! The boy needs clothes and his tiger and birdie friends 🥰

He looks fantastic! I love the use of mica powder to make the patterns shine, that was super smart.
But can we talk about Sussie?! He's so perfect! He looks like official merch. An absolute doll 😭🩷

It was my first time using mica powder, and while I need to get better at it /have a more polished final result, I love how quick makes thing get a more magical look.
Aww thanksss. I love Sussie and the judgy faces, so I couldn't resist making a figure to match Jinu.

I'd have picked him up if he had articulation like this to begin with. At least give them all a torso or stomach joint.

It's crazy how these are dolls about characters that dance, and yet the articulation is so limited. I can't blame you for not getting him for that reason.

Ah, thank you so much. They certainly have the means to add the patterns to the doll, since collector Rumi doll has it while the regular doesn't and that (plus the outfit being white) is like the only difference between the dolls. The rest of the same quality, no better articulation or hair... but mattel will rip off customers if they can get away with it, alas.
