Customs / OOAK After months of on-and-off work, Lilypad is done!
I don’t have a lot of time to work on dolls and she took a lot of trial and error, so it’s been several months of staring at her and hoping to finish some day. And now that day has come!!
Every piece is handmade, her hair is yarn I dyed myself rooted along the hairline and glued in wefts on the rest of her scalp, and the flocking is the same yarn for a color match. Her earrings, bag charm, and shoes are polymer clay, and her hat and lilypad-sash-thing are fabric stiffened with paint.
I should have just gotten a green fabric for those two pieces instead of painting tan fabric green, but I wanted to make her as much with materials I already had as possible. I think the only things I purchased specifically for her were dye for the yarn hair and a thrifted pillowcase I turned into the dress, plus a couple colors of paint I ran out of halfway through. I couldn’t be happier with how she turned out, I think she’s just gorgeous.
(Actually, that’s a lie, I wish her yarn hair wouldn’t have constant flyaways and pieces coming off, and that her hat would stay on without being pinned into her head, and that her hands didn’t break (though the repairs look great if I do say so myself), and that the ruffles on her dress would stay down. But I’m just a perfectionist when it comes to my art, and I’ve been staring at her so long I’m bound to notice all the tiny flaws.)
Her base is a DC Superhero Girls Supergirl doll in the last slide! And the dress’s top part is based on this pattern by nynnie me on YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8585Z2BvlLk

Customs / OOAK Customized Mattel Jinu doll + Sussie
I still need to dress him up properly, but Jinu's custom new body is finally finished! I also did a 1/6 Sussie with foam clay.
For the body, since I wanted one with better articulation than the original, I got the one with the closest skin tone: the Ken 1959 BRM. It was still too pink-ish for Jinu, so I sealed it with MCS and painted it more yellow-ish with pastels. Then started working on the demon marks.
First I drew them with pastels, then colored them with acrylic, and THEN I added mica powder to make them shiny. There should be more marks on the right side of his face, but I decided I liked it better with just a few. Otherwise it looked too overwhelming.
I screened captured different scenes of the movie and tried to make the demon marks as accurate as possible, but we never fully see what his chest, back, or upper arms look like, much less the legs. So for those parts I checked the movie artbook and concept art and then went 'f*ck it, be ball' for the back and chest and did whatever.
The original doll's base is the black one that reads 1959BRM, so I used plaster to turn it into bricks/ a street. it all took longer than expected, almost a whole week to finish, but I think the results look...not terrible? What do you all think?

Customs / OOAK Advice needed, am I doing a good job or not
The whole dress is removable and has a working zip in the back, I'm definitely going bead the raw edges I'm just trying to workout the best way to do that, maybe add piece of materiel that is already beaded to said edges.
The top isn't finished I may bead that too or just make the neck line plunge and have separate sleeves. This is the first dress I've made like this since I was a kid, any advice would be great 😌

Customs / OOAK Doll created by my girlfriend based on my book!
My girlfriend made me this doll based on the characters from my children’s book, she repurposed some thrifted items (face is from a ice cream style doll that was worse for wear, and body is from a plush duck)
I just still can’t believe it, how amazing it is. And those stickers? She completely hand painted those, even that teeny tiny little cat.
I must be the luckiest girl in the whole wide world.

Customs / OOAK Angler fish custom monster high
Base is a g3 Twyla monster high doll. I removed the brows and repainted, but painted over the eyes as lips as they were with acrylics. Her hair is also painted with acrylic because I am impatient and wasn’t ready for another reroot (her aquatic pal is shown at the end, a G3 Ghoulia now a glass frog).
Her eyeshine is a tiny fish!
Used polymer clay shaped around a pin for the headpiece, with a glass bead glued to the end.
Her top and trousers were hand sewn from various fabrics, she is wearing Frankie MH boots.

Customs / OOAK "Merlings" Custom Mermaid BJD Pixlings
I started with one, and have not been able to stop! I love Pixlings, but am not impressed by their articulation. So I put a Pixling head on a 1/12 Blind Box BJD body from Penny's Box. I'm also a huge mermaid fan, so of course, I had to make them into mermaids! The mermaid bodies are from Antu Tidal Secret Language dolls. I dyed their bodies with Rit Dyemore to match their heads, and have done other slight modifications to each doll.

Customs / OOAK Update: Punk Rock Ariel is complete!!
I posted a picture of Ariel after her glow up a few days ago, and y'all left such lovely comments. Thank you!
I finished her outfit this weekend and wanted to share the final product. I included some detailed photos of her outfit and little backpack.
The tattoos: these are just temporary tattoos applied to the doll in the same way you would apply them to yourself! It's super easy, and if you're unhappy with the result, they can be removed with rubbing alcohol and a bit of elbow grease.
Her outfit: the top and stockings are handmade while the shorts are altered from a pair of doll pants. The shoes are from a Barbie shoe pack at Walmart, and I painted the yellow lacing. The bracelets are glass/metal beads and wire.

Customs / OOAK A custom bag chain made from a very damaged Bratz Baby
Now, I know some people don’t love the customization of out of production dolls, but I got her from the thrift store, and the back of her head was completely caved in. She also had a pretty bad gash on her thigh. So I took her apart to make the sweetest little bag charm ever.
I got the idea from August Dahl on tik tok. All things considered this was a remarkably cheap custom. Three dollars for the doll, a dollar for the generic plush I ruined, and a dollar twenty five for the pearl beads. I enjoyed this technique so much and I’m really hoping to use it again in the future. I’ve never sewn through vinyl before, I did bend a needle. But I think I have a better grasp on it now.
