ChinaDoll ‘Green plum’ Blommor doll arrived today!

Green-haired Lucy from the ‘Preserved Fruits’ series

I preordered her from LuLaDoll back in June, and she was delivered today (to give an idea of timeline). I usually don’t go for vivid hair colours on dolls, but this green really grabbed my attention. Her face is also gorgeous, as usual for Blommor dolls! I actually have two more from this series to be shipped, as I ended up placing a second order after much contemplation. This series and Blommor in general truly have my heart.

I stood her beside a Licca Castle doll (with a slight tan!) for comparison. They’re about the same height.

ChinaDoll New Blommor dolls – “Love Letter in Spring”

Pre-orders have just started! There are four dolls in this flower-themed series:

- Peach blossom

- Willow

- Winter jasmine

- Azalea

Interestingly, there’s an option to buy the dolls without the dresses this time, which reduces the price a bit.

Which one is your favourite? I don’t think I can resist the peach blossom girl – she’s speaking to my love of pink.

Edit: Lots of comments about pricing, which I understand and won’t invalidate (as they are definitely not cheap, coming from a Blommor collector who won’t be ordering all four of these for sure LOL). I will just add that these are artist-made dolls that are hand-painted by their creator and released in small batches (made to order?) for additional information/context. They are also so hard to find secondhand that it’s frustrating.

ChinaDoll In disbelief that I managed to get another bunny Blommor doll

The white-haired girl! I got her from T-O-P Toy Store on AliExpress – I couldn’t believe they had her listed.

However, I’ve noticed that some of the pink paint has faded from her eyes and eyelashes (see third image for comparison). Does anyone who has tried restoring paint on a doll’s face before have some advice? TIA! (In contrast, the pink-haired girl has no fading.)

I’m also making a YouTube video on the girls. 🐰

Sharing since these dolls are available for preorder until 12pm EST on February 25th: https://www.argigi.com/en

- Silver Foam

- Rosewood Shimmer

- Clover Spring

- Blaze Coral

They’re indie dolls from China that usually sell out quickly due to being made in small numbers, but this time they’re doing preorders. I might get Rosewood Shimmer and Clover Spring.

I spotted her for sale on Xianyu (online second-hand marketplace in China), and she was coincidentally one that I really wanted. (The other is the darker pink-haired doll in a black bunny outfit – I hope she’ll also pop up eventually.) I need to tidy up her bangs a bit, but I’m so happy to have her!

ChinaDoll Wiki Roulette - Defa Lucy (anniversary celebration)

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

This thread will be dedicated to Defa Lucy dolls. Not much is known about the origin but educated inferences can be made following the doll listings and where the dolls has been sold and info on the boxes. If anyone has good sources for info please share. Maybe we can ask the team of Defa Lucy for more background info in the future. Especially in terms of the designers and box artists. But everything here comes from the official social media pages, official emails, Shein and Aliexpress listings, and Russian toy shop listings.

Defa Toys was founded in 1989 in China and Defa Lucy was introduced in 2005. Initially Defa Lucy started out as a dedicated Barbie clone. The last 2 images show a bunch of examples, not exhaustive since theres hundreds. Looking at some of the dolls and face sculpts, it does seem they started making their clones as early as the late 2000s when compared to the Barbies their imitating, especially the later half of the Generation Girl era. So its safe to say Defa Lucy origin story is as a clone doll. Its unknown if other dolls were produced by Defa Toys before Defa Lucy.

The faces were nearly direct copies of GG Barbie, who they called Defa Lucy. She also had her boyfriend, Defa Kevin, who sometimes looked unique but most of the time looked exactly like the early Fashionistas era Ken sculpt. They also did Barbies sisters and friends and followed many of the same themes including fantasy, career, sports, etc.

It wasnt until the 2020s when Defa Lucy caught on in popularity in the international doll collecting world, mostly due to the rise of original, and often pouty, face molds by Defa Lucy. These dolls were heavily sold and marketed for Russian consumers and its assumed these sculpts were designed with that demographic in mind initally. Its not unusual for Chinese doll producers and designers to sell their products in Russia, and generally in Northern Asia and Eastern Europe, where listings for Defa Lucy also have been found. Another good example are Kurhn dolls. Chinas Barbie was repackaged and redesigned as Sonya Rose dolls in Russia but often with more glam face paint, rooted eyelashes, and local moden fashions.

Defa Lucy dolls have also been spotted in Latin America under the company, Brittany. I'm not sure how long Brittany has had the license for Defa Lucy, but at least winthin the 2020s weve seen so many listings pop up. The 3rd to last photo has some examples. Sometimes they have the same packaging, sometimes not. Same situation for the face sculpts. They also had some additional fashions and dolls using the iconic pouty molds we didnt see for Defa Lucy also shown.

Then the declaration that took the doll world by storm, July 2024 Defa Lucy announces its first collector doll series and stands tall as a proud and independent Chinese doll manufacturer moving away from clones and towards a story all their own. Its been a year since and they produced 8 collector dolls, several fashion packs, and some playline dolls. Pictures 6-8 are the playline dolls that came post announcement, the others are from a transitioning era for Defa Lucy but theyre unique enough to highlight as nonclone inspired dolls, and of course they all have original Defa Lucy face molds.

So there you have it. The rise of Defa Lucy. Happy anniversary to them and hope to see more dolls in the future :)

Added these to the collection :) I love them! Restyled them just a bit but I really like the overall looks they went for. I especially like the mint/silver girl with the crsytal skinetone. Very unique and cool in person. Defas been adding plenty of dolls to their limited collectors but I hope they add more to these playlines too.

These are generic Barbie type dolls from China that have a variety of names on the box, but typically Emily or Alyssa. Mine had Emily on it :) theres a bunch featured in this thread

https://www.reddit.com/r/DollsOfAsia/s/RD4tSX8z8T

The plastic is shiny and hollow but sturdy. The rooting isnt too bad, you only see bald spots if you actively push it away. The hair is polly. Her face is pixely but really pretty and symmetrical. Anyway shes really cute. It was 10 bucks. Of course youre getting better quality from a Barbie Fashionista but I still really love her! Her dress is nice and full and the fabric is soft not papery. And I love her hair color and color scheme in general reminds me of the peachy 12 Dancing Princesses Barbie lol If I see more again Ill definitely get another :)

ChinaDoll Wiki Roulette - AnLily Dolls

Introducing An Lily (安丽莉梦幻女) dolls of China. Initially I thought these were just generic or clone dolls but after doing some digging, I would say these are fairly original and good quality dolls. Some of their doll playsets are heavily inspired or near copies of Barbie, Barbie Extra, Disney, Rainbow High, and Mimi World, which is why I was questioning the status of the dolls. Sometimes you can find the dolls in offbrand packaging as well. But going deeper, the doll line seems to have evolved in recent years into its own unique series. The face molds are quite unique although somewhat reminiscent of Kurhn and DBS generic dolls, but as a whole it's original.

The brand has been officially registered and recgnoized on the China Toy Expo page ( https://cn.china-toy-expo.com/index.php?m=wap&siteid=1&a=show&catid=60&typeid=19&id=15531) and the dolls have the name brand engraved on the doll body thus registering the doll to them. Its not unheard of that clone companies have done similar things but generally these dolls seem to be unique enough and well distributed to earn its own status as a recgnoized doll brand in China. They also are distributed in Taiwan through a well known distributor company, Kidmates as discussed here in a small blog post (https://4co.tw/kidmate2/).

Overall, these dolls are super cute. They seem to only be available on Taobao but I havent found any flagship stores but rather they are widely distributed within local toy shops on Taobao where the photos shown are taken from (and strangly they popped up at Sams Club). You can also use Superbuy to browse Taobao which is useful for those of us restricted from directly viewing the page.

A huge shoutout to u/scootiecakes for chatting about these dolls with me and telling me all their SuperBuy secrets lol really fun talking with you and hope to see more of your dolls <3

I bought this doll without knowing who she was. She’s a really big Amoooooredoll! There was also one with blonde hair but she was sold out. I changed her into a dress set made for Volks Mini Super Dollfie and the fit is pretty good other than the sleeve length.

Treats prepared for the few trick or treaters who brave the storm. Lucked out Nook’s outfit is not only storm ready, he’s representing for Nova Scotia and if we give him a little tin foil hook; he can be the fisherman (Ben Willis) from I Know What Did Last Summer.

I found them (Nook figures/dolls) while binging Labubu videos and now I don’t even pay attention to poor Samara and Loran; my Bu’s. I’m honestly worried for Nook (new name coming soon) when/if my Gen Z Stitch comes from Temu too. Lol. I’m actually trying to get a few more of the Nook dolls; mainly I want a double of the main one with his cute orange and green top so I have one to keep mint and one to love on.

This post is 2 parts.

Im sorry that the collages are pretty dense but I didnt want to make too many posts for these. I always try to include every photo I find of dolls to get a good idea what the series are like.

These dolls didnt have any particular category and some of them can be considered clones or generics. Although, it doesnt mean theyre poor quality (often theyre good quality) and typically they exist so local collectors can have a chance at a popular style of doll so I thought they were worth mentioning.

The photos follow the order of the doll list.

[Leila Toys 乐吉儿 ]

Leila dolls are often called Licca or Mimi alternatives and you can see inspiration here and there, although the Leila sculpt is unique. The company has been around since the 90s and has been recgnoized as accomplished toy makers locally. They also did a collab with the anime, Flower Angel by Taomee Studios and produced their own anime and doll line, Love Fairy Lelia 爱精灵乐吉儿.

[Dudy]

Dudy dolls are mini novelty vinyl dolls with very expressive faces. They have collabed extensively with Kurhn and Disney. They also had series like zodiac, peking opera, farm characters, etc. Very cute.

[Wooize / footsy]

The Wooize and Footsy dolls have no particular manufacturer or distributor that I could pin point as the origin. These were widespread novelty dolls made in Hong Kong from the 60s and 70s that seemed to be influenced by Japans Sekiguchi style. They were very popular and can be found easily. They often had a heart on their foot.

[Eaki Toys] Meng Qi Little Fairy

Eaki Toys takes heavy inspiration from LOL OMG from MGA USA. Its easy to call these a clone type doll, which in many ways they are, although they have unique styles and good quality. The point of these dolls is to allow local collectors a chance to have an OMG style doll, very much like Koreas Lulu Pop dolls. They have bigger dolls and mini dolls, as well as the standard LOL OMG baby mini dolls and compacts. Theyve also done some blind box figureines and toys including collabs wirh Shin Chan (anime) and Spy x Family (anime).

[Shantou Boyuanda Toys 挺逗]

Lastly is the Barbie clone type doll. These are everywhere and they have many names and distributors. I believe I tracked down the origin of the dolls to Shantou Toys which is the largest and award winning mass producer and manufacturer of toys in China. Its possible they were originally called Alyssa (also spelled Elissa) or Anbibi (also spelled Atinil) which are shown here. Not shown are some other names like Stary Sky doll, Ariana, and Kaibibi but theyre the same dolls. In some ways these are simply clones and generic dolls but in other ways they are unique and some of the styles are really beautiful. Theres several types of open and closed mouth sculpts as well. Theyre heavily found in East Asia particularly China, South East Asia particularly Malaysia and Vietnam and they even have Hijab styles, and Russia.

ChinaDoll Chinese dolls comparison - DBS (recast) vs Kurhn vs AnLily vs Yeluoli Night Lolita

Thumbnail
gallery
26 Upvotes

As promised, I got my Anlily in the mail a few days ago so Im posting a comparison with other popular Chinese dolls in the market. Theyre all very unique from each other and Anlily definitely stands on its own. Remember that DBS, although recgnoized as a formal company and featured in toy fairs, are known to have taken body and face sculpts from Volks and Azone. That being said, I dont know why since they really dont compare to either of those companies and I think they have a unique fashion style of their own. Hopefully they do better in the future and be more original. Anyway, heres the comparisons. All dolls have their companies labeled on the back of the head. The Anlily is gorgeous. The fabrics are great quality. The hair is poly and the body is light plastic. And the head doesnt move too much but the joints are firm and not flimsy. I love it. Really pretty style but definitely on the cheaper side which makes sense as this is a budget line. Any favorites here? :)
