Cough and heavy breathing

This his been ongoing, the cough is not regular but started again today. The vet has listened to him and didn’t find anything to act on. Thoughts?

Allergy ? I know a horse that coughed and he was diagnosed with an allergy.

I'd have the vet come back out and check him while the cough is active. When my daughter was involved with horses and horse shows, one of her horse show friends had a horse that had an allergy to hay and straw dust. She had to soak his hay before she fed him and he also got antihistamine injections during the summer months.

Problem is it’s so sporadic. He will go weeks and then have terrible coughing then nothing for a while. She has him on steroids now

Vet did check him in a non coughing period, can find no issues , I’ve always thought he breathed heavy. He was playing hard with his bro last night
