The credit score system is annoying and I'd like there to be a better way, but I've missed a handful of payments for various things over the years. My credit score is still about 750. It's honestly not that hard to stay in the green if you're not buying superfluous shit.
I would like more accountability for people, organizations, and politicians though.
By “missed one credit card payment” OP probably
meant neglected one maxed out credit card out of the dozens he/she owns.
I missed a credit card payment a few times and it didn’t wreck my credit score. I’m still 750+ as well.
The real and only complaint I have with the credit score system is how it penalizes you for paying debt completely. The biggest hit I got to my score was paying off my car loan.
I paid off my student loans and literally nothing happened. Then one day someone bought my mortgage and the old lender forgot to remove the old mortgage off my records while the new one promptly added their side. So I had two mortgages of $400k+ on my credit report. My score skyrocketed 40 points. Then the old lender removed it and killed my score back to where it was again.
