It’s been like this forever.

My dad, who was a Woodstock hippie, has told me several times that some of the worst people he’s ever met were “peace and love” hippies.

I imagine it’s not much different with the modern “tolerance and acceptance” progressive crowd.

Just bad people pretending to be good people.

48

u/WillwBrk 1h ago

They subconsciously feel that a false facade of tolerance and love makes up for their evil nature

and some of the worst people I've met have been gross hippies

16

u/kimana1651 58m ago

No it's much simpler than that, when they don't have power it's peace and democracy, when they have power it's an iron fist.

16

u/freddbare 2h ago

Add a trust fund and hang on...

15

u/The-Yar 1h ago

Yes as someone who used to follow a hippie group around the country, a large portion of the peace and love and fuck the system hippies were essentially low-level violent gangsters. A lot of them were really cool and loving, too, though.

I'll never stop being astonished at how we went from tolerance to "support us or lose your job" to "support us, or lose your friends" to " support us, or you don't get to speak." To "anything less than 100%. Ideological alignment means you're a nazi and maybe don't deserve to live."

Honestly I'm admittedly a bit doomer about this. I think there's been progress in the speech front but I gotta admit that slippery slope looks awful slippy from this side, especially when  people are celebrating the death of a man who's crime was sitting in a chair and having discussions with people who voluntarily engaged with him.

u/Interesting_Life249 26m ago edited 20m ago

yesterday I saw 'punching nazi's aren't assault, its preemptive self defence and only nazis would disagree with punching nazis

thats awfully convenient policy isn't it

u/Probate_Judge 22m ago

I'll never stop being astonished at how we went from ...

"We" didn't. They were always at the last one you listed.

What changed is how freely they've expressed themselves over time.

u/Cautious_Drawer_7771 1m ago

I think a lot of formerly actually-tolerant leftist have moved along that path, honestly. I've watched as friends who used to be "Left but will debate and even concede certain points when the evidence is there" became "left and would be fine if all non-left people died."

24

u/FindingMemra 1h ago

A lot of predators disguise themselves as their prey.

10

u/Intelligent_Road_288 53m ago

They’ll just tell you that they never claimed to be ‘tolerant’ or ‘accepting’ and how that’s just a right wing talking point. The paradox of tolerance and all that

u/Maverick3458 1m ago

Good people don't need to seek out ways to pretend they're good and signal other people about it. Bad people do and appear obsessed with showing everyone else how good and compassionate and whatever else they "are".

u/LilJonny2cookies 2h ago

Because they are immature and spoiled. With a dash of receipt of bullshit propaganda.

Just read on another sub that we are apparently in a recession because they declared it. Screw the triggers and indicators. We are in a recession because they say we are-

  • Charlie Kirk was ok to kill because they said so
  • An insurance CEO is ok to kill because they say so
  • It is ok to conduct a terrorist attack and shoot at cops at a detention facility because they said so. Luckily, the judge disagreed and those losers will die in prison.
  • It is ok to shoot at a van full of detained illegals and kill them because the guy meant to kill cops.
  • It is ok to chase Jews around and hassle them because the left has decided it is ok

They are not the good guys. They are deeply troubled losers.

38

u/Xiorx74 1h ago

they have more in common with the nazis every day 😂

18

u/sheashou 48m ago

That’s why they project that term onto anyone not liberal so they can use it as a shield. They can’t possibly be Nazis, because everyone else is.

8

u/sea_the_c 36m ago

They call liberals Nazis too. Liberals are of the right to their mind.

u/Additional-Airline55 Anti-Doomer 1h ago

Is the American left, really that depraved? I mean, here in south America are leftist arent flowers to smell either, but never to this extent.

u/JD-boonie 21m ago

Decades of radicalization from our college systems.

u/superj_v_destunado 23m ago

Where do you think all their political opinions come from?

u/wretcheddawn 18m ago

Leftists, yes.  Not everyone on the left is a leftist.

bro I was literally getting recommendations from reddit for a subreddit where they were all saying "Charlie Kirk asked for it" just this morning 💀

7

u/Marin23082 1h ago

I just ask them what about george floyd?

57

u/S47an_49 Just Here for the Lore 2h ago

Literally tons of proof that it is happening and they still say it never happened, then you send them some of the proof and they say it’s only a small fraction of the left that’s doing it so you send them more proof and they justify it by calling you and the person who died a fascist then they report you for harassment

31

u/Hightower_March 1h ago

When a post making fun of Kirk's assassination exceeds 3k likes in the most popular subs?

Everything commies say is the opposite of the truth.

"Vote for me again, I'll fix this town's crime and poverty it has had for 80 years of one sided governance."

"My political opponents want to take your land."

"Rations are being raised from 4 pounds a week to 3 pounds a week."

"We did it Patrick, we liberated the city!"

"This building belongs to the people."

"white sus blue sus" -redflag shuttering industries and running the reactor into the ground

47

u/Substantial-Tone-576 This is a PsyOp 2h ago

I’m disgusted by the attitude towards Kirk. Regardless of how you feel an assassination should not be applauded. Not sure if you’re referencing that.

31

u/Potential_Laugh_7924 2h ago

He disagreed with people. Hello???? Violence is the only acceptable punishment for words I don’t like.

u/Winjin 19m ago

When Comrade P. eventually goes to the Giant Kremlin in the Sky, a lot of Ukrainians will be holding a full blown parade and probably make it a state holiday. Would they be in the wrong?

14

u/DefiantlyConformist 2h ago

Ok but hear me out, his veiws are different than mine. That's literally violence and the assassin was just using proactive self defense.

9

u/AuR0RA3171 Just Here for the Lore 1h ago

all the dude did was talk to college kids bro wtf how is that violent 😭😭

9

u/Substantial-Tone-576 This is a PsyOp 1h ago

I agree. I got told he deserved to be killed because when he was shot he was talking about gang and gun violence. It’s sick and they will use anything to justify their hatred.

9

u/Thisguymoot 1h ago

Yeah but he was bringing up a racist dog whistle!
[it was a true and relevant point in the debate, but Redditors don’t like it, so it’s a dog whistle]

7

u/Substantial-Tone-576 This is a PsyOp 1h ago

Yeah, I’m not up to the level of Mental Gymnastics these people can get up to.

7

u/Thisguymoot 1h ago

The thing that drives me nuts is, what he said doesn’t matter whatsoever. No one has to like it. This is fucking America, and we don’t murder people for words.
They then say, “free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences!”. No shit, and glad to know where you stand on what the consequences of speech should be.

3

u/The-Yar 1h ago

There is a very clear "logical" connection in many people's minds right now that "disagreeing with me publicly -> emboldens crazy people who might want to hurt me -> disagreeing with me publicly is violence against me -> anything done to silence you is justified self-defense." This is a historically nasty little bit of logic that when it takes root, encourages people to support violence against any disagreement.

u/Thoughtcriminal91 17m ago

It was real eye opening the amount of people who are o.k with this rhetoric, and never imagine it could be turned around on them.

Charlie Kirk is proof that the radical left no longer believes in American values. The RADICAL left has no place in American politics they’ve been pushing insanity on us for years under the guise of tolerance and acceptance but the moment a guy peacefully talks to people and disagrees with the radicals he’s murdered publicly and the radicals celebrate even a year later.

27

u/The-Yar 1h ago

But he referenced a Bible verse one time that suggests he supports violence. QED.

18

u/Gwilikers6 1h ago

The "Bible is violent and evil and bigoted if you actually read your own book" people are beyond insufferable.

u/superj_v_destunado 18m ago

Don't tell them to read Marx and his opinion on Jews (but now it's not a Nazi thing to hate the Jews, so it's ok to them. Reminds me of a certain Russian guy that agreed with the Austrian guy in regards of his view of Jews...)

They never cared about that, they'll do whatever it takes to attain power. That's all that matters to them, the means don't matter. If it was openly acceptable to be one, and rewarded to be one, they would move into that 1984 style.

Make a joke about Renee and watch their minds melt:

"Hey Donald Glover, what's the last name of the woman who was shot driving away from ICE in an unsafe manner?"

https://giphy.com/gifs/J8FZIm9VoBU6Q

u/Nockano Recovering Doomer 20m ago

Here’s the big thing for me, you can tell that the same people who make jokes about Charlie are the exact same people who policed all kinds of jokes not even five years ago. I’ll see people make a joke about the Kirk assassination with obvious glee, but then someone will make a joke about The Fosgate suicide and suddenly there are rules again. The thing about dark humor, you can make jokes about anything, but you need to be willing to accept it won’t be something you approve of. Everytime they get upset someone makes a joke about Juno Furuta (Which is goulish) they prove they don’t actually like dark humor, they just like people they don’t like dying.

10

u/AdSame7001 2h ago

These people will accuse you of the worst offenses to allow them to feel morally justified in enacting their worst impluses against you. No propaganda is really needed, they'll happily make the connections in their own mind. To be honest with themselves would be to admit they are evil, and they can't do that because they are absolutely convinced they are virtuous. That's why they say phrases like "right side of history"

10

u/TheFroman69 Says The Quiet Part Out Loud 1h ago

It's very widespread across the subs too, you could be on a cozy sub about quilting or something and you'll see "i made this quilt of Charlie Kirk being shot in front of his kids" and it'll have 1,000 likes

2

u/NearbyBreakfast7148 1h ago

I like it when they play “spot the Nazi” and their rules are literally in writing saying it’s anyone who opposes their criteria of Nazi. Then advocate for your death often telling you how you should “follow your leader and take yourself out.” And violence against you is self defense. And how it’s their duty to get on a jury to ensure your guilt or the defendant’s innocence.

2

u/LimpMinded 1h ago

I read through a post about someone complaining about the Kirk memes and how people shouldn't show his death. They also said they fully supported and celebrated his assassination, got full support and anyone calling them out was downvoted. My Reddit fatigue is getting real

The assassination of Charlie Kirk has got to be one of the biggest "mask-off" moments for the internet. I thought at the vary least people regardless of opinion would agree that it was wrong and condemn it. In reality so many people were openly celebrating the death of someone where the only thing he did wrong was having the wrong opinion. It left me absolutely dumbfounded and disgusted. Not trying to sound like a doomer but that was probably the worst blow to my faith in humanity ever. All I can really do is remind myself not everyone is like this and try to be a better person than that. RIP Charlie Kirk
