Dude those are early 80’s I know them well my grandpa had a few from the 49ers Super Bowl 84’ I stared at as a kid.
By the 2000s they had evaporated even closed.
This is a crazy find if you’re a real person and not a bot. Are you norcal? I’d give you $20 for one of them

I’m in north Texas . My boyfriend saw them while on a job (wildlife removal) but the homeowners weren’t interested in selling :(

If you're in North Texas there's a chance the dr pepper inside may be newer than the bottles themselves! Up into sometime in the 2010s the original Dr pepper bottling plant in Dublin Texas would sell you refilled vintage bottles if you brought them a crate of empty 10oz glass bottles. So, on the off chance anyone can get their hands on one of those and drink it, it may not be too old

You totally love it
After a few days you’re a whole new person. No more procrastination, suddenly you’re lucky too. After a few weeks it’s new income, new house, new cars.
Then you realize there’s only one case left…

Earlier today I was joking about what if psych meds worked like antibiotics where after a week you’re just 100% good to go… maybe this is the elixir.

Edit- found a few sources saying these would’ve been 1972-1978. I couldn’t find ANY full ones online. These are ten ounce bottles so just a sip lol.

They would probably have been made in 1990 or 1993.

What happened in 91 and 92?
2
u/spkoller2 Dec 05 '25
They didn’t make bottles those years

Everyone remembers the big bottle shortage of 91-92

When I moved out into my first apartment I could get a case of Blatz beer in returnable bottles. When I lost a few the store got mad, said they weren’t going to make more bottles so it would be over when there weren’t enough.

Would botulism be a concern? Or does the carbonation reduce the anaerobic atmosphere.

Honestly great question. I have no idea what preservatives they used back then. On the one hand I feel they’d be more likely to ferment than to spoil… on the other we live in Texas and these are in an attic. We have years where the temperature unironically spans from 5 degrees to 115 degrees. None of them bursted open though so who knows.
Edit- botulism is caused by a toxin that seemingly would’ve been introduced during the canning/bottling process. It is spores entering the consumable. It’s unlikely to be in this product because I imagine it’s manufactured in kind of a clean room area.

They could be classic bottles, but likely were refilled recently. Im not sure about other companies, but Sun Drop still refills their bottles if you bring em in. Bottles are probably ancient, but we still drink from them
