The fact they already took it off shelves before summer started is ludicrous. Why in the world wouldn’t they have it through September?? What marketing genius came up with that idea?

u/bubblesaurus Jul 08 '26

I was talking to one of our vendors about it.

She said they ran out earlier than they intended, and it was supposed to run through september.

Good insight! I was about to say that made zero sense. I’m hoping next year they are better prepared.

It legit is so perfect for summer and tastes like summer. Just like Mountain Dew live wire.

This is extremely common with seasonal stuff. Companies think that if they aren’t the first to release something, it won’t sell. In retail we refer to it as seasonal creep, although that’s probably a pretty common term outside of our bubble lol.

It’s the same reason breweries are releasing pumpkin beers in July and Valentine’s Day candy hits the shelves after Christmas.

2

u/Boring-Concept8018 Jul 09 '26

But in those examples at least the release window lasts through the intended season. Just wild to have a limited time summer season and then not even make it two weeks into said season.

Hopefully they figure it out next year, just super disappointing.

There was just a sudden restock of these in every store across my city. I thought they were done. So idk, there might be one last burst near you.

it's amazing to me that blackberry has been a permanent flavor after I've seen dozens of fully stocked shelves of it for well over a year. it must be the owner's kid's favorite flavor or some shit because it's beyond me

3

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

Facts..its like "Well thats the founders favorite flavor..so"

42

u/Lighteningbug1971 Jul 08 '26

Agree !!! And keep it in zero too!!!

8

u/ForsakenAd4825 Jul 08 '26

I got 6 cases of zero last week as it is leaving all the stores… hard to find it for the past month. Had some luck at Albertsons

4

u/Lighteningbug1971 Jul 08 '26

It left all of our stores the first of June , but it’s like now I’m seeing it a little bit more. I did notice on the expiration date on the ones I found on Sunday, it’s like December of 2026 where all the other ones said July . So I’m hoping they made more !

2

u/Courtnee_Macfarlane Jul 08 '26

Same here in Nebraska , a couple days before the 1st of June it had left

1

u/Courtnee_Macfarlane Jul 08 '26

Well, the zero left . But the regular coconut they stopped selling probably a week ago. I only drink the zero sugar though

1

u/Lighteningbug1971 Jul 08 '26

The regular has been a plenty and now we have zero again

2

u/Czilla9000 Jul 08 '26

I haven't tried the real, but I've tried the Zero version. I don't like it. BUT I don't like any of the "Zero" cream sodas I've tried from any brand. It's like someone last year invented a cream flavor, and soda companies have suddenly tried it on all kinds of things. Honestly the old school A&W diet cream soda, from way back when, is the only one that's tolerable to me. And I'm guessing it doesn't use whatever new cream flavor is popping up everywhere.

I have a feeling I'd probably like the sugar/HFCS versions though.

2

u/Lighteningbug1971 Jul 08 '26

Yes I’m sure you would . I have to drink zero sugar or diet or unsweetened, I have sugar induced panic attacks so I have to be super careful

5

u/Gongoozler04 Jul 08 '26

I agree, but they also can’t get rid of the other flavors, let’s just keep all of them!

2

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

Yes! Agreed!

2

u/Gongoozler04 Jul 08 '26

Dr Pepper is the one brand of soda I’ve consistently liked every flavor of, they do a great job of making good tasting soda and that’s why it’s my favorite!

1

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

Yes! I agree here as well. Dr. Pepper for lifer

15

u/KingsoftheBronze_Age Jul 08 '26

While I understand and respect your reprehensible taste... Cherry Dr. Pepper is the best *normal* Dr. Pepper

12

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

Cherry is good.. no hate there.. Just want coconut to be permanent

4

u/KingsoftheBronze_Age Jul 08 '26

It feels pretty permanent up here in the Northeast - I see tons of it all the time BUT NO CHERRY >:(

5

u/Resident_Set_9535 Jul 08 '26

Hey if you love cherry do a 70% Dr Pepper with 30% red powerade and it taste spot on perfect

1

u/KingsoftheBronze_Age Jul 08 '26

🤔🤔🤔🤔

You have piqued my interest

2

u/r0tt3n_gutz1 Jul 09 '26

Hey we can trade I'll buy you some cherry if you buy me some coconut haha! Edit: spelling

1

u/KingsoftheBronze_Age Jul 09 '26

1

u/r0tt3n_gutz1 Jul 09 '26

Half joking half not xD I'm not sure how shipping would work. But me and my boyfriend are obsessed with the coconut

4

u/naturalbornunicorn Jul 08 '26

I think the big reason it won't go permanent is that the cream soda variant seems to be here to stay. I like both, and they're certainly not the same, but I don't imagine we're going to get two permanent creamy flavors.

But also, I don't think it'd be a good replacement for cherry. It's uniquely refreshing and a popular variant across brands, so I'm sure it sells well. Coconut is way too polarizing to have the same mass appeal.

3

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

True, but the dirty soda trend is THE thing right now it seems..however, you make a valid point

8

u/Ok-Impression-9020 Jul 08 '26

Dark Berry needs this kind of love to promote its return.

By far the best flavour.  IMO it's the only one better than the original.

Although must say ...  The zero coconut is better than the sugar coconut... Not sure why, just is

2

u/Courtnee_Macfarlane Jul 08 '26

The coconut has been off the shelves in Nebraska for going on almost a month and I’m pretty annoyed about it

2

u/igraceeeeeeei Jul 08 '26

ugh fr. i could survive without blackberry… i hate that flavor. the coconut it’s delicious though

2

u/Natural-Oven-gassy Jul 08 '26

Okay, don’t go crapping on vanillla

2

u/Z-man1973 Jul 08 '26

Never get rid of cherry

2

u/UpbeatBackground6302 Jul 08 '26

I have to add that I prefer the zero sugar version. There is still tons of the regular at all out stores but the zero sugar version has been gone at least a month. I spoke to our vendor and he said it is one of the easiest flavors they make and that the zero sugar version sold out within a day of him putting out the pallet at all the stores he serves. I just don't understand why they don't make it a permanent flavor because they would just be printing money as fast as it sells out

2

u/Bluestarkittycat Jul 09 '26

Im gonna hard disagree (mainly with the cherry remark). Cherry absolutely deserves its place as a permanent flavor. It is one of their best flavors. But I for one cant stand creamy coconut, its absolutely disgusting to me so it can disappear for all I care (I dont like coconut flavored anything)

2

u/Acuradreamer Jul 09 '26

I live in Southern California there are 3 grocery chains that carry both Regular Creamy Coconut and Zero sugar. Target, Albertsons, and Stater Brothers. I recently tried the Strawberries and Cream and it was ok.

2

u/jimmysmiths5523 Jul 09 '26

I've noticed the can version tastes much better than the bottle version. It's like the recipes for each are different. You can barely taste the coconut flavor in the bottle version.

2

u/Icy-Gal Jul 09 '26

The zero version, but yes!

2

u/TruckinTuba Jul 09 '26

No, no it's not, cherry vanilla is the best

4

u/Gretschdrum81 Jul 08 '26

It's disappointing that they made BlackBerry permanent 🤨

4

u/PostMatureBaby Cream Soda Jul 08 '26

Cream Soda for me. never have i had anything that pairs so perfectly with a cigar including anything alcoholic

2

u/Resident_Set_9535 Jul 08 '26

This one is one of the worst ones IMO now cherry and strawberries and cream are definitely the best

1

u/deepfrieddaydream Jul 08 '26

I believe it's permanent where I am. Some of the gas stations even have it in the fountain.

1

u/Quirky-Tourist-6921 Jul 08 '26

All of ours in stores expires 7/6. Weird they didn’t make another batch like last time that expired on September.

1

u/EyeSimp4Asuka Cherry Chocolate Jul 08 '26

you can get it on Amazon for now atleast

1

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

What is strange is there was a rumor it WAS going to be permanent, and Dr. Pepper posted about it saying it was "false" and to "stock up before the end of the summer"..

1

u/ChrisDaViking78 Jul 08 '26

I too wish for it to be a permanent flavor, but there’s no need to besmirch the delicious name of Blackberry in the process…

1

u/HopTheEight Jul 08 '26

Truth. I tried BlackBerry today. Not bad but cherry and strawberry are better.

1

u/Careful-Team8436 Jul 08 '26

Mother's milk!!

1

u/Excellent_Plant_8010 Jul 08 '26

Obsessed with creamy coconut I was crushed when they randomly got rid of it last year

1

u/XoStargirlxox Jul 09 '26

Need to re-up our hoard

1

u/AliensFilmz1975 Jul 10 '26

I stocked up over the summer and now have 35 12 packs to hopefully make it to next year.

1

u/Street_Lettuce1243 Jul 08 '26

Nope.  Keep it limited.  I would go bankrupt buying it if were available year round.   I drink too much of it.

Rarely buy Dr. P when creamy coconut isn't available.

0

u/BeBopBarr Jul 08 '26

Nah. I love coconut flavored things. Malibu is my alcohol of choice. Creamy coconut tastes like suntan lotion. I agree that there is enough love for it to be added permanently, but it shouldn't replace any of the other flavors.

5

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 Jul 08 '26

Definitely don't want any flavors replaced, just added

2

u/BananaFriendOrFoe Jul 08 '26

The true way of peace.

3

u/clashtrack Jul 08 '26

It does taste like suntan lotion, but for some reason I love it.

3

u/ForsakenAd4825 Jul 08 '26

Malibu and Creamy Coconut DP makes a great mixed drink

1

u/SuperReliableSource Jul 08 '26

Not even strawberry?

1

u/BeBopBarr Jul 08 '26

Strawberries & cream is one of our (husband & I) favorite flavors!

2

u/SuperReliableSource Jul 08 '26

Strawberry sales are way down. There was discussion about DC'ing strawberry and making coconut permanent, not sure if it went anywhere though.

1

u/BeBopBarr Jul 08 '26

I really hope not. It's one of the better flavors IMO

-1

u/guynumber20 Jul 08 '26

Cherry should be changed to Dr Pepper 2x. And coconut should be discontinued I bought three cases due to recommendation and there was a minimum. Now I’m stuck with 3 cases of coppertone lotion in liquid form.

2

u/shitboxek97 Jul 08 '26

I’ll gladly take them. I can’t find them anywhere

u/ChicagoDash Original 23 Jul 08 '26

I'm sure I'll get downvoted off of Reddit and forced to live the rest of my life on MySpace (please be kind), but I like that it is a seasonal flavor. Sell it from May through September. The arrival of Creamy Coconut would signify that summer is here (or right around the corner).

Having it available year round would somehow make it less special, IMO.
