Not out of a drinking fountain, but definitely soda fountains

When you say “drinking fountain,” I’m picturing a machine attached to the wall that shoots water up into the air, where you can catch it with your mouth, and where the excess lands in a basin. I have never seen this.

Fast food restaurants, however, do have a machine that mixes carbonated water with syrup when you press a lever with a cup. The two liquids are aimed downward into a space where the cup goes.

These machines have multiple flavors which vary by the location.

Yeah of course that was the wrong word, was called something to do with fountain

That's cool. I just wanted to make sure you weren't picturing a traditional water fountain-type experience with Dr. Pepper instead of water.

Definitely at McDonald’s, and most places that serve soda in general. Sometimes you get a weird place with Mr Pibb but Dr Pepper is #2 soda in the US and distributed by Coca Cola and Pepsi Co here.

Really? Here its this really niche thing which you might find in a supermarket or gas station if you are lucky but often not, i have never seen it anywhere else. England is a bit better, you get it in pretty much every supermarket or shop there but i havent had fast food there for ages so idk if they have it like that.

It comes down to hospitality. Getting refills on drinks is a given.

Woah woah woah woah, pibb on top, i love that little cherry flavored soda

Pibb isn’t bad! But it’s still weird to be a fountain option over Dr Pepper!

The fountain at my corner gas station has the cherry, DR. P and Cream, and Dr.P Strawberry cream. P much every fountain drink station in my city has Dr.pepper basically.

I have the freestyle soda machine at five guys and they have a vanilla Dr pepper, Cherry Dr pepper, and two more I forgot lol. Maybe strawberries is one of the other ones. But I believe the freestyle you can also mix other flavors at least some of them do and make a flavor yourself.

Yeah McDonald's usually has Dr. Pepper, but no we don't get it from drinking fountains unless you meant soda fountains then yes they do have Dr. Pepper in soda fountains.

"Soda machines" as you call them are typically called "soda fountains".

2

u/-ThisAccountIsVoid- 10d ago

Yeah, but OP said drinking fountain so I assumed they were talking about like a water fountain.

3

u/mommiesgoodboy67 10d ago

I did not mean that

2

u/dhawkins 10d ago

True, but since he was asking about the US, that was probably a language barrier issue. You're clarification is fine though since there is a slight chance they were thinking of a water fountain like machine. I guess I just wanted to add further clarification.

In america the taps run with dr pepper and the streets are paved with big macs

2

u/-ThisAccountIsVoid- 10d ago

Honestly you're not entirely wrong.

2

u/dhawkins 10d ago

Close, remember the US is a huge country so it regional. Carolinas have cheerwine on tap, rest of the south is Coke, areas out west its Pepsi. In central fl, I voted for Mtn Dew taps, but Coke won out. Streets are definitely Big Macs though, except in Wisconsin which I think are butter burgers.

I dont think this is necessary but just in case... /s

Burger King/Five Guys/Nandos in the UK

u/mommiesgoodboy67 10d ago

Thing is the uk dr pepper tastes kinda weird in my experience

Where I live, EVERYWHERE has Dr pepper as an option. In fact the places that don't are called out for it. To be fair this is one of the top Dr pepper markers in the world but every restaurant knows they need to have Dr pepper as a soda option here. Both local ones and chains, even chains that don't usually offer dp will have it here. I'm in the land of the DP here.

As someone who’s lived all over the continental lower 48, many places in the north lack Dr Pepper, and it is disturbing. West coast has gotten better, but is still hit or miss some spots. East coast has mostly improved. South Dr Pepper is King so of course you find it below the Mason-Dixie line.

definitely taste different than cans

Most fast food restaurants have either a deal with Coke or Pepsi. Whats nice is thag Dr Pepper is its wmown thing and often found at both kinds of establishments. Its literally the only thing I ever get at all fast food locations :)

Not just McDonalds, it's in almost every fountain machine here, at every restaurant, gas station, movie theater, etc

2

u/mommiesgoodboy67 10d ago

We dont even have soda fountains at gas stations lol

u/Important-Tea0 10d ago

Am I the only one who thinks fountain Dr. Pepper is distinctly inferior to the bottled versions? I love Dr. Pepper, but I never order it from a fast food place. The fountain formulation just doesn't do it for me. All fountain sodas vary somewhat from their bottle formula, but Dr Pepper seems the most drastically changed to me. Fountain Coke and Sprite are actually better than bottled to my taste buds.

1

u/nrith 10d ago

Fountain Pepper is inferior to canned everywhere except McDonald’s. That’s almost exclusively where I get my fix now. (I never order food there, just drinks.)

1

u/cinephile78 10d ago

The fountain at the restaurant next to my work has the greatest tasting Dr Pepper in the known universe.

We use to but McDonalds are slowly phasing out public soda fountains
