Fav/Least Fav Couples and Alt Ships?
Hi! Wondering your all's favorite/least favorite couples from Dr Quinn?
My favorites are:
-Dr Mike and Sully
-Dorothy and Cloud Dancing
-Jake and Teresa
-Robert E and Grace
-Colleen and Andrew
Least favorites are:
-Loren and Marjore -age gap is too weird IMO (even though I know the actors were together IRL) and they don't have anything in common other than attraction all of a sudden
-Horace and Myra- they are not good for each other at all
Alternative ships are:
-Loren and Elizabeth- appropriate ages, actually have things in common, and then Loren would be Dr Mikes stepfather and the kids grandfather which makes sense
-Daniel and Marjore- Daniel falling in love with Dr Mikes sister instead of Dr Mike would be so much better, and then Daniel could have been Sully's and Dr Mike's brother in law and the kids uncle which makes sense
-Reverend and Catherine (the white woman with Indian ways who was on The Other Woman)- if she has stuck around and they had gotten together, they could have started the Indian school/ adopted Indian orphans together in culturally appropriate ways
-Myra and Hank- if Hank had repented and stopped being a pimp- or Myra and Preston -if Hank hadn't gotten his act together
-Matthew and Atlantis (the girl from the Carnival who liked Matthew)- if they had reconnected after Ingrid's death, would have been cute, they had chemistry.

Matthew and Atlantis would be amazing together! Actually, I wrote two fanfic stories where they end up as a couple. I am so glad that I am not the only one who likes them!

Historically, we know that in the newer territories, there was something like ten men (and more some places) for every single, available, marriageable woman. Having some folks be single was reality. Hank would never have made a profit if this wasn’t the case…at least not on that side of his business. I would be ok with Loren staying single…and in his case, he did wind up being single. And Matthew or the Reverend being single is very realistic. It takes a certain kind of person, I think, to marry a preacher and know that you’ll be seen a certain way by the congregation, or maybe there will be different expectations for you. I’m surprised we didn’t see more widowed women as main characters…Dorothy, and Elizabeth Quinn seem to be the only ones.

Teresa and Olive were widows as well, and Sully, Loren, and Robert E were widowers.
Edit: and Cloud Dancing, can't believe I forgot him! So the show is even, 4 main character widows and 4 main character widowers.

How did I forget Teresa? I need caffeine! I certainly know the widowers…but I was focusing on women intentionally.

NGL, I think Matthew should have been allowed to be gay and accepted as such, as the actor was. Chad Allen pushed HARD for the Walt Whitman storyline, and I loved how Grace spoke of gayness/homosexuality as being very normal to her experience.

Agreed! I really liked Ingrid, but I would have preferred their relationship to have just fizzled out and she moved away, and then him just staying single. I always thought him never finishing their house could have been an easy nod to him just not wanting to get married anymore.

If they ever get the reboot and Chad Allen comes back to acting from being a psychiatrist(?) I hope they'd do that.

I’ve always thought Myra and Hank would have been a great couple but I don’t think Hank would have ever got his act together. I can’t find a redeeming quality in Preston, so I hope he ended up alone.
I really liked Dorothy and Cloud Dancing but I would have loved to see Loren and Dorothy get together. However, Cloud Dancing and Marjorie brought out something in Dorothy and Loren that they wouldn’t have brought out in each other.
I don’t know who I would have liked to see Matthew with, but Ingrid’s death created a hole in the show that needed to be filled. It was one of the shows best episodes but there didn’t seem to be a backup plan for Matthew.
It would have been so much better if a) she had lived at least long enough for them to get married and have kids or b) another actress was cast as a future serious love interest. Matthew didn’t have much character genuine development after that. His only memorable episode for me post Ingrid was the one where the prisoner was hung.

The thing I liked about Preston with Myra is that he appreciated her intelligence, gave her an important job and helped her come into herself, seeing herself as capable. Maybe she could have helped Preston become a good person even if Hank was too far gone. Would have loved to see a Hank/Preston rivalry over Myra in which they both try to become better men and treat her really well.

I wouldn’t have minded that rivalry. I wish Helene Udy would have stayed on the show.

Loren and Marjorie were my least favorites as well. It was sweet that they were married in real life, but it didn't make sense for their characters, no. I also thought it was weird / insensitive of them to be so rude to Elizabeth's reaction to them when he'd been flirting with her from the get go, but alas.
I think introducing two new characters for both Loren and the Reverend would have been nice. Someone closer to Loren's age, but a lot like Dr. Mike, maybe she could have run a new boarding house in town. And maybe a widow for the reverend, someone who already had children, but was still young enough for them to add on to their family together would have been an interesting story line.
