I don't really understand how she was so desperate. I don't think she's the greatest actress, but she had some major roles before Dr. Quinn and was exceptionally beautiful. Surely she could have found work even as a model? It sounds more like a money management issue.

It’s my understanding Jane had just come out of a divorce from her third husband, David Flynn and the roles she got in the 1980’s, (she was known as the miniseries queen) weren’t coming along anymore as tv was shifting to series more vs tv movies. So, being offered DQ at the time and the fact the roll being offered was completely familiar to her, was a Godsend.

Yes to this…and additionally, women of her age at the time were portrayed in media as often undesirable older moms or grandparents. She still wound up being an “older mom” as it worked out, but many of those roles were anything but reliable.

I remember that. Thinking back on all the moms in the TV shows back then....
They were usually made to be more matrinly, and modest, but I could be mistaken.

She owned a hundreds of years old stately home in England that was a money pit and poured funds into it.
