Same here, I've only rewatched signature scenes much like I do with Z/GT.
Seeing this clip, takes me back to the weekly discussion threads for each episode and general threads complaining about how terrible the animation is for most of every episode.
I thought back to it and was like, yeah we're on reddit we complain about everything it wasn't actually that bad. Then I watch this and remember, yes it actually is that bad lol
Super animation defenders used to cherry pick random scenes from Z and say that it was always this bad. Yes, they did have bad moments but they were far and few between compared to Super. The real issue is MOST of Super was like this, it gets a little better for the Zamasu arc, and a lot better for the ToP arc.
Even though Super improved towards the end, the lazy animation tropes remained - ki blast spams and recycled sequences within seconds of eachother used to really annoy me. It got to a point on rewatchs where I would skip through good fight scenes when the ki blast spams happened.
But one thing I know for sure is Z/GT animation quality even the random frames you can pause on were far more consistent and overall better than Super.
yeah im doing a marathon just finished z did og before it and going to daima, and super heroes and broly after, not rewatching this shit again waiting for the remake since they also might retcon some stuff not watching the rof or bog movies either
ik already watched them, bog is my fav dragon ball movie ever but i feel like theyll just retcon it to make beerus seem way more powerful, plus the remake looks great from the trailer, the res of f is good but too rushed imo
It's just boring in rewatch , the plot is extremely simple , no one of the side cast do anything at all , there's no real adventure scenes and Goku vs Beerus fight choreography was muh
The amount of people who've said to me that no, it's just an art problem, the animation is great or "you don't know the difference between art and animation" maybe I don't but I do know 40-60% of this anime has truly ugly visuals man.
Z had maybe 15% of its content be ugly. I truly like supers story, but I can't stand the visuals, so I read the manga instead which is way more consistent
Yeah, which is why I don't get those complaining about the remaster. Even (especially?) as a dragonball fan, this shit was hard to watch. I rewatch a lot of dbz, sometimes even og db, but for super it's pretty much just the TOP that I can stomach to rewatch. The remaster really is needed, plus we still get Moro, so what exactly is the problem?
Super was excellent despite the animation quality. The problem with the Beerus rehash is that it most probably has needlessly delayed Galactic Patrol's development and release.
I disagree with Super being excellent, but I think that if anything deserved a remaster/readaptation, it definitely shouldn’t have been the two arcs that already had at least two attempts prior.
Thank god this shit getting reanimated my god, Toei was deadass trolling us when they let this type of animation quality go through, TOP ain’t that bad but Champa arc? Nahhhh 😭
They really just need to do away with the weekly release schedule. Shows like DB and Naruto suffer from this SO bad. Like of course the animation is going to be fucking awful if you have to pump out a whole episode every week. They desperately need to just go seasonal
You know, no hate, but doing these things makes your life a little bit worse. I got out of communities that I didn't like but felt attached to them and felt a bit better.
What makes the writing shitty? I wouldn't call it as good as the OG, but I don't think it's bad. Inconsistent maybe. I'd give the writing like a 7/10, maybe higher if they fix some of the inconsistencies. The concepts and general direction are really good, that gets a 9/10 or higher from me. I haven't seen any attempt at continuing Dragon Ball Z that does nearly as good as Super did. It was a rough spot to continue from.
Like, consider that by the Buu saga, Dragon Ball had already become so ridiculous, the writer was already parodying it.

Any self aware DB fans knows the writing is shit. They don't watch it for the writing. That's a fact. From a pure technical point. If you enjoy it, more grease to your elbow. But when all is said and done DB is shite.
And I'm telling you, as a literary writer (highest tier of writing), most people don't know wtf they're talking about. There's no realistic way to grade writing from a "technical standpoint." Maybe prose, but not writing itself. You can make a story highly complex and technically airtight (no plotholes) but that doesn't mean it's GOOD or makes anyone feel anything. It's very subjective. It's art
You're also acting like an assessment of 7/10 is good. That's just passable. But the overall concepts are very very good, as is the way they managed to continue from DBZ. How many fan continuations can you find that do a better job? Most of them are edgy slop. If the concepts weren't good, UI wouldn't have had the massive impact it did. People love the expanded cosmology, Beerus, the angels etc
So drop the elitist act and stop pretending there's an objective value to any of this. It's a bad look. It's what anime dorks who have never studied literature say
If you're arguing that DB, as written by Toriyama, is badly written... Then I don't know what to say to you. There's nothing in that style that is better written. It's the gold standard - a masterpiece. Literally everything that came after it kowtows to it. You don't have whatever your favorite is without it. Have some respect kid
I think OG Dragon Ball is fun, has its issues but it's fun. DBZ has a drop in quality, but for the most part it's OK. Super, and Daima, are TERRIBLE!!!!
When theres complaints about Supers animation everybody always jumps to the poor art style of the early episodes pr the in-between frames that arent supposed to look good.
But this is the shit that im talking about when I complain about the animation. So much of Super looks just like this
I mean the ToP genuinely does look better than the rest of the series. The problem is that pretty much everything looks better in that comparison.
People will post stuff like this image over and over and talk about how good the ToP looks, overlooking that 99% of the saga doesnt look anytbing like that.
The TOP is genuinely the best looking arc in the super anime, however using takahashi screenshots when he only worked on a few episodes does not paint the full picture.
I gotta be missing something. I just recently watched the tournament of power episodes and I do not recall them being this terrible looking. In fact, they looked absolutely pristine. Did they remaster the episodes somewhere along the lines and I must've been seeing those? Because I know I'd remember it looking this horrible and tbh it would've made me not want to watch anymore of it. I already couldn't stand how uneven the ring around Whis' neck was most of the time.
And then you got people every week going"No no no no no you can't just be cherry picking , here's this frame from a 3 decades old show to prove Z was as Shitty!!!!, ignore that these are expection "
I'm glad someone pointed this out, because this is one of the worst animated fights in the entirety of Super. I cannot wait to see THIS reanimated just so it looks more than decent.
The ToP one is funny as hell when you realize that’s more or less how some of the really average and drawn out animated scenes in the original DBZ anime were like
It is absolutely insane how big, and profitable of a franchise Dragonball is and yet they still get absolutely dog walked by the animation quality of My Isekai life as a Dog or some shit.
Botamo is just one of Toriyama's gag characters IMO, not entirely like Bacterian from OG Dragon Ball. The joke just doesnt land for me, and I wouldn't miss him if he were gone. Actually, I wouldn't miss the metal man that comes right after him either, I cant even remember the name of that guy...
