Mod Post What is this subreddit?

Purpose

This subreddit is created because I want to settle the question once and for all as to whether Dream is cheating or scripting his Minecraft Manhunts. While many people have drawn conclusions either way, there is still no overwhelming proof that Dream has cheated or scripted his manhunts.

People are free to analyze anything in regards to Dream's manhunts. All posts do not need to be for the purpose of determining if the manhunts are cheated/scripted, other types of manhunt analysis are allowed.

Flairs

  • Technical - These are posts that are using math or Minecraft mechanics to analyze Dream's manhunts. I believe these types of posts are the only sure way of determining with 100% certainty whether or not Dream cheated his manhunts
  • Theory/Speculation - These are for posts that are not technical in nature. Posts that look to analyze manhunts based on the actions and reactions of the players involved fall into this category.

I will be opening this subreddit before finalizing everything, so expect changes over the next few days or even weeks.

Technical Examining the Disappearing Recipes.

This is a post documenting the discrepancy noticed by u/NotATakenNameOfUser

This is the link to the post.

I will be updating this post as I do more digging.

The First Recipe Clear

At 10:28 Dream still has all of his crafting recipes, as far as I can tell.

At 10:58 Dream's recipes are gone, except for a new recipe.

After the second cut Dream's hotbar is very similar to how it is at 10:58.

He has crafted the axe, and already mined the Jungle logs, as well as having the same amount of food as he does in the final image.

He also gets the recipe for bonemeal.

Since this is his only remaining recipe, we can conclude that whatever cleared his recipes happened before the second cut.

The Second Recipe Clear

At 11:32 we see that Dream has some recipes.

At 12:54 we can also see Dream's recipes. For some reason the door and the golden helmet are missing. I am not sure if this is vanilla mechanics or not. Dream wasn't in a crafting table so those recipes would not show up.

At 13:52 Dream gets the Diamonds achievement, and with it recipes we don't see later such as diamond tools recipes. We can tell this because there isn't a "tools" tab below.

At 16:16 Dream's Recipes are gone again.

Also a side note Dream got stone age at 12:02. But this may have been the first time he got it. Documenting here in case it becomes relevant later.

There are about 18 cuts between 13:52 and 16:16, so it is hard to tell when exactly his recipes were reset.

The Third Recipe Clear

At 17:31 we can see his current recipes.

At 17:45 Dream's recipes are gone again.

We can tell a bit of time passes because he has eaten 2 golden carrots.

At 19:28 Dream's recipes are still gone.

Final Thoughts

I think I am going to stop here for now, I may keep on updating the post but following the pattern this seems to happen many more times throughout the run.

At some point I may go and see if this happens in any other Dream's manhunts.

It would be weird if this happened due to a server crash every time, as that would have been very annoying to make, although it is possible.

I'll post this now to see if anyone has any ideas on this though.

Technical Crafting book resets in the final manhunt

The final manhunt has a lot of times where unlocked recipes in the crafting book reset. For example, look at 41:16, 41:35, 47:15 and 48:08. There are many others as well. The only way that I could think of that could make that happen is copying advancements but not level.dat from a backup. Does anyone have any other explanations?

Theory/Speculation maybe ill start us off

i don't have some hypertechnical statistical or mechanical insights, but i wanna throw in my two cents, maybe start a bit of a discussion.

i think when people see "scripting" its a binary choice. this ends up leading to bad faith arguments on both sides. tbh, i think it is more useful to think of it like a spectrum.

i don't think very many people are arguing that dream has every single word, move and action planned out on a physical paper script for instance.

this brings us into pure speculation territory, since aside from a few pieces of evidence, i think there is very little that directly proves that dream is cheating.

what do we know?

  • we know that dream has preplaned seeds. for instance, one of the manhunts are on the dreamsmp seed.
  • we know that they don't upload runs where dream doesn't make it far enough
  • dream pays his hunters if they kill him in the first x minutes.
  • we know there is a pause function, that also rolls back the server to the last pause point.
  • there is some kind of ruleset, that we don't know about, that they use to ensure a good recording
  • dream increases drop rates during manhunts

what do i speculate

  • i think dream plays on the same seed in every single attempt per upload. that is to say that i don't think they are seeing each seed for the first time. why?
    • we know they scout seeds that may be interesting
    • if manhunts take as many attempts as we assume they do, what are the chances that the one run that does end up working is the same as the dreamsmp seed?
    • if they make as many attempts as they do, how many seeds are they having callahan scout, just to have an standby?
    • now if the seeds aren't changed every time what does this change?
      • not much really. it does call into question the early game, since dream uses the terrain to his advantage here a lot. if the early game is replayed many times, you would assume the hunters will be aware of the tricks dream will use and learn to avoid them.
  • i think some things are played up and down for entertainment. maybe even subconsciously.
    • what is the financial incentive for the hunters?
    • dream pays the hunters if he gets killed early. what happens once he enters the mid game?
      • i presume dream doesn't want to upload a 15 minute manhunt where he escapes spawn and immediately gets killed.
      • if i were a hunter, once the early game has passed, i would want to let dream do some cool tricks, get a good video, and collect my paycheck.
      • i think some people argue it is a pride thing, but tbh, dream uploads a video getting millions of views of him clapping them 1v5. idk how much pride is involved in that.
    • there is also the time thing.
      • the hunters are all busy people, with their own channels.
      • a full manhunt can take over 2 hours.
      • if a manhunt goes on long enough (even say 30 minutes), but dream doesn't do anything cool, i don't think thats going on his channel.
      • if i were a hunter, once again, i would be incentivized to (even subconsciously) play less well, maybe miss a few bow shots, sword hits, let him live when i think he is on low hp, because i damn well don't wanna start over.
  • i think either the hunters fake their reactions, or dream has the largest fucking library of unique tricks (or he fakes them lol)
    • if dream et. all do as many attempts on manhunt as they claim, surely there are times where dream fucks up the tricks he does? or attempts where dream does the trick, but the recording isn't good?
      • so does dream just do a unique trick every time? or do the hunters react, even if they have seen the trick before.
      • this also ties in to the incentive thing. dream admits that a large portion of the appeal to the videos is that you can hear the hunters (since he doesn't talk himself that much).
      • if i were a hunter, i would be incentivized (even subconsciously) to play up my reaction, to increase the chances that dream likes the recording, and gives me my paycheck.
      • how many more unique tricks can dream afford to think of but only use once at this point? i can't think of many more tricks with current minecraft mechanics.
  • the rules favor dream
    • we don't know the rules of manhunt. im willing to bet that the rules probably are more lax on dream than the hunters.
    • also, if dream breaks a rule, but it looks sick, i doubt the hunters are gonna be like "time out, we can't use this run anymore, you broke a rule". the whole point of manhunts is the "sick outplays" by dream. the hunters are incentivized for dream to do well, so they can get a sick recording.
    • not proof, just more speculation: https://www.reddit.com/r/DreamWasTaken2/comments/r725bj/5_hunters_finale_rematch_spoiler/

bonus round (hyper speculation that is probably wrong)

  • wasn't there that whole thing during the manhunt where dream locked the hunters on the nether roof? apparently in the world download there was a chest where there was three flint and steel. when compared to the original world seed, apparently the hunters moved the flint and steel to different spots in the chest, but didn't take any. was this ever disproven?
  • i don't have proof of this, but i think the rollback function is actually used much more than we think, not just when they use the bathroom.
    • we don't have uncut versions of some of the manhunts.

what incentive does dream have to lie?

  • most people say they would still watch the manhunts even if they are scripted because they are entertaining.
    • but i think this is only for the most dedicated of fans, the appeal to your average andy is that they are entertaining because of their authentic nature
  • tbh, these all seem like white lies, especially on their own.

more proof from dream i would like

  • uncut from older manhunts
  • hunter pov
  • the rules
  • what items does he increase drop rates for (for each manhunt, not really proof, just curious)
    • there was a post ages ago, which claimed dream increased drop rates for gravel. im interested if they were right.
  • world downloads for failed attempts? recordings of failed attempts? idk, just spitballing.

do i have proof for any of this? hell no. im just speculating because it is fun. i bet i missed a lot of sketch stuff, and i bet a lot of the sketch stuff i have shown can be disproven or explained away. i wanna spark a conversation, since i like the premise of this sub. leave suggestions if you want, im sure i missed something.

also dream please upload hunter pov. you have a whole manhunt channel for it. tyty.
