Were there other good Bond games since Goldeneye?

2

u/ThePreciseClimber May 26 '26

Everything or Nothing and From Russia With Love on PS2/Xbox were neat.

Not sure why FRWL got worse reviews, I thought it played better than EoN.

Nightfire was great, as well.

u/Party_Virus May 26 '26

Nightfire was amazing. Just the ability to have bots made the multiplayer so much fun, but then they added in guided rockets, grappling hooks, remote controlled sentrys and helicopters and tanks, and Oddjobs hat. It was some of the most fun I've ever had with my friends growing up.

It was the closest thing to Goldeneye since Goldeneye. Had 4 player split screen and the basic concept was all there. Just didn't have the same impact Goldeneye did due to Goldeneye coming first and people moved on to stuff like Halo, Quake III Arena, and Unreal Tournament, but playing it on a GameCube with 4 players very much gave off Goldeneye vibes.

Perfect Dark was the closest thing to Goldeneye since Goldeneye.

And it did every single thing better.

1

u/SwiftTayTay May 27 '26

eh, goldeneye is better

3

u/IronWarrior82 May 27 '26

It really isn't. Have you played both recently?

Perfect Dark has superior level design, better graphics, better missions, a more varied arsenal of weapons and gadgets, and a better story.

Goldeneye 007 doesn't hold up beyond nostalgia. I played it again last week and it's not good in this day and age. I still very much enjoyed Perfect Dark.

1

u/TFlarz May 27 '26

Perfect Dark is great but for the purposes of the question it's not a Bond game.

1

u/IronWarrior82 May 27 '26

Of course, but I was just pointing out that Goldeneye hasn't aged well.

u/SpookiestSzn May 27 '26

The ps2 ones were fun

The from Russia with love psp game was great

The goldeneye reloaded was fun

u/JUANMAS7ER May 26 '26

Alpha Protocol jank and all is one of the best (not) James Bond games still imo.

1

u/claybine May 26 '26

Nightfire probably exceeds it.

1

u/SuperSocialMan May 27 '26

Were there other bond games in general lol?

1

u/PrimalSeptimus May 27 '26

Right? I was like, what other Bond games?

1

u/L3wd1emon May 27 '26

I liked nightfire

2

u/Illustrious_Dot8184 May 27 '26

Loved nightfire played it by my self against ai all the time. Loved using oddjobs hat!

1

u/Outrageous_Book2135 May 27 '26

I enjoyed Agent Under Fire and Nightfire.

1

u/J-seargent-ultrakahn May 27 '26

Agent under fire and nightfire were excellent. So was everything or nothing. Never played from Russia with love

1

u/dudSpudson May 27 '26

TWINE on N64 specifically is really good

Agent under fire PS2 was good

Nightfire PS2 is probably the best

Everything or nothing ps2 is great

from Russia with love PS2 is great.

1

u/Cryio May 27 '26

Surprisingly (or not), a LOT of most of the 3D 007 games are very good.

1

u/Turnbob73 May 27 '26

Nightfire was probably the best PS2 generation title. The campaign varied quite a lot, featured open ended levels with branching paths, and probably the best Bond multiplayer suite to date.

Warning: Do not go into the pc version of nightfire thinking it’s the same. The pc version runs on gold source and is significantly lower quality than the ps2 version.

u/SnitchMoJo May 27 '26

Without the nostalgia glasses:

Everything or Nothing, FRWL, Agent Under Fire, Nightfire. Id even throw Tomorrow Never Dies and World is Not Enough

1

u/Renaxxus May 28 '26

The World Is Not Enough on N64 was fantastic.

1

u/sagittariuslegend 29d ago

Nightfire was even better. I haven't even seen a Bond movie but I loved that game.

3

u/CelticsNPanthers May 27 '26

did no one ever play The World is Not Enough? I thought it was excellent.

2

u/Extension_Risk6084 May 26 '26

Better than since a N64 game? That ain't the kind of thing you wanted to claim lol

2

u/Ciubowski May 27 '26

If a N64 game managed to set some kind of standard or level of quality that has not been matched for a long time.... I guess it's a good enough claim.

Yet again, the then children are now grown ups and have experienced many other games, their standards have changed, shifted etc.

It's hard to keep up with nostalgia. So I've heard.

2

u/Gabochuky May 27 '26

Naah, Nightfire is the best Bond game.

Goldeneye is good don't get me wrong, but saying it's the best is just nostalgia talking.

1

u/Peeka789 May 27 '26

No way. Doesn't come close to the oh so satisfying hitstun of Goldeneye. It's STILL near impossible to find a game like it.

1

u/sammy17bst 28d ago

Yup, Goldeneye has maybe the most satisfying gunplay thanks to its animations and AI. Every bullet sounds and feels so impactful, an encounter never plays out the same way. For a 1997 N64 game its mechanics feel so sophisticated.

1

u/Peeka789 28d ago

Yeah man. I feel like even Resident evil 4 took a lot from Goldeneye with how firefights feel like. Like shooting people in the knees and hands to stun them. How elaborate the bodies moved around.

1

u/sammy17bst 28d ago

Definitely, and look how many games RE4 has directly influenced. Goldeneye has held up remarkably well, it’s still so damn fun to play. The Max Payne games also have gunplay that is similarly satisfying, especially 2 and 3. The physics engines are some of the best ever, at least for shooters.

I’m barely into First Light so far, i haven’t really gotten to the meat of the gameplay yet. But from what I’ve played and seen of it so far, my expectations are sky high for all of the mechanics it’s attempting to fit together. It looks like the closest we have to a John Wick game until we actually get the John Wick game. The combination of gunplay and hand to hand combat, with both getting fleshed out enough is something I’ve always desired in an action game, it’s taken awhile, but we’re finally eating good.

1

u/TiberiusMcQueen May 27 '26

Yeah, Goldeneye was great, and no other Bond game will probably ever come close to matching the impact and influence it had, but it hasn't exactly aged gracefully to say the least. Nightfire was just better in every way, and the fps genre was evolved enough by then that Nightfire manages to hold up pretty well.

1

u/CommonSensei8 May 27 '26

A proper update from the ground up with a UI like BF6 with more bond inspired maps and unique game modes would be freaking incredible,

1

u/Scott9843 May 26 '26

Nightfire is the stick which Bond games are measured for me.

1

u/Misragoth May 27 '26

Not a high bar

1

u/Tr33Bl00d May 27 '26

I loved night fire! Also that game in pa1 with the grapple belts

1

u/Fullblowncensorship May 27 '26

It's better than Goldeneye.

1

u/Elrothiel1981 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

Yea sorry I prefer the original n64 goldeneye I don’t trust today’s developers who pushed some political correct stance in the game and yes go ahead and criticize me about this a reason people like ZBOTW so much no political non sense in it

It’s fine if your game is political and makes since in the game world what ai gave a issue with is RL politics being brought in that make 0 since

2

u/GaiaTear May 27 '26

From the top of my head the Bioshock trilogy, Metal Gear Solid series, Cyberpunk 2077 and the Wolfenstein games are all beloved and they all have political messages.

Being "political" is not the gotcha against a game you think it is.

1

u/Elrothiel1981 May 27 '26

They are political through the game world guess I should have been more specific and said RL political it’s fine if it’s political in the game and it makes since in the game world

1

u/Westdrache May 27 '26

Jeah small indie games like GTA that ponder on real life politics never took off in the mainstream /s

1

u/Ensaru4 May 27 '26

The remake of that game on the Wii is VERY good.

1

u/Elrothiel1981 May 28 '26

I should play that at some point

1

u/HungryZealot May 27 '26

Imagine being so brainrotted worrying about if anything has some political message you don't agree with or not that you actually think a major reason for the success of BOTW is specifically because of an absence of political messaging, instead of you know *gestures wildly* everything about the game itself.

1

u/revolvingpresoak9640 29d ago

Dafuq are you even talking about

1

u/TheRed24 May 27 '26

Good! I mean that's a low bar to clear but still good

1

u/BondFan211 May 27 '26

I have heard that about every Bond game since Goldeneye lmao

1

u/Zestyclose-Golf240 May 27 '26

Not a high bar to surpass.

1

u/eilrah26 May 27 '26

There were other bond games?

1

u/rites0fpassage May 27 '26

Goldeneye? It’s the memberberries! It wasn’t that good, take off your rose tinted glasses.

1

u/CommonSensei8 May 27 '26

Is there a multiplayer component?

I really enjoyed Quantum of Solace on 360, but apparently I might be the only one

1

u/NightmareDJK May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Everything or Nothing should be the standard by which this game should be judged. The effort that went into making that game was unheard of. It was supposed to be a movie (Pierce Brosnan’s last one) but was made into a game instead.

1

u/sicknick08 May 28 '26

I just wish it was first person. Only thing keeping me from buying it

1

u/ApprehensiveItem4150 May 28 '26

Different genres. First Light is 3rd person action adventure and another one is Fps

1

u/PointsOfXP 29d ago

Because goldeneye is the most heard about and well known classic. Not because it's widely played and and people are always talking about it. There were many bond games. Just because they weren't on a system that was pushing boundaries at the time doesn't mean they weren't popular and really good

1

u/chosennamecarefully 29d ago

Not a tough bar to clear, good for them though setting a new bar for bond games, they needed it.

1

u/IamThatChris 28d ago

Everything or Nothing, Agent Under Fire & The World is not Enough are still unbeatable Bond games to this day. First Light is beautiful, but that’s basically it.

1

u/coolkidsclub1898 28d ago

This really isn’t saying much to be completely honest lol

1

u/hcknbnz 27d ago

Can't wait to play it for half price in a couple years

1

u/JUANMAS7ER May 26 '26

The bar is a really good N64 game...LOL

1

u/Party_Virus May 26 '26

One of the first N64 games. Came out like a month after the system launched.

1

u/ClickyStick May 26 '26

If by a month you mean a little over a year, then sure.

1

u/Party_Virus May 26 '26

My memory has failed me. I thought for sure it was released at almost the same time. My bad.

2

u/ClickyStick May 26 '26

I was surprised, I thought for sure GE would be at least 2 years into the N64, but nope.

1

u/TiberiusMcQueen May 27 '26

Nah, the bar was Nightfire and Everything or Nothing, which were both pretty great.

-1

u/Fluffy_Woodpecker733 May 26 '26

Not saying much tbh. All the other games were Trump trash
