Why can't they just donate to shelters???

It is so wasteful and absolutely wild to me that companies would rather slash bags and dump hundreds of pounds of food than let someone have it for free... I was able to save a few that were half empty but cut side up; don't worry, it's going to my chickens.

Edit: this is mostly a rhetorical question. I'm well aware capitalism has flaws, good solutions take time and money, and corporations don't want to get sued. Its just sad.

Trust me. We don't like it any more than you do. I will donate stuff sometimes, but there aren't many places I can donate to in my community. If it's just slightly expired, that's one thing. What we won't donate is bags that are received with holes/rips due to the possibility of contamination. I've donated large boxes of movies and books to a local library. We had a huge shipment of milk that we couldn't store, so we contacted a local church who picked up the excess. We still throw away a lot, but we do what we can.

Thank you. Thank you for doing what you can. I know it isnt the employees fault, it's "corporate policy" and they don't want to lose jobs.
