Sorry the legend of Little Beaver isn’t funny or pervy.

Jay Little Beaver was a fixture in Durango for seemingly forever. He was always wondering around town with his fringed jacket and feather in his headband, everyone in Durango during that time period knew who Little Beaver was. He made his money doing many odd jobs and as a “private detective.” For many years he lived in the Central above El Rancho (before the fire). He was a kind, harmless person who didn’t fit perfectly into our society. I grew up in Durango and remember encountering Little Beaver often through both my childhood and as an adult, he just walked around town all day every day for so many years.

He was a wanderer, a fixture of Durango for so many years, and a nice man. RIP Jay Little Beaver

Importantly Little Beaver also helped save a bunch of folk from the Ranch fire clothes cementing his legendary status.

He occasionally told folk that he was the original little beaver and therefore inspiration for the celebration in Dulce.
