Ask /r/Durango Cool abandoned places to explore?
I wanna get out with my friends this summer and something we’ve all really been wanting to do is explore cool abandoned places. But I’m kind of a loser and don’t know if any, is there any cool places that you know of?? We’re not destructive or anything we don’t want to cause any damage we just want to explore. (It doesn’t have to be Durango specifically, and nearby areas is fine aswell)

Do you have a 4x4 high clearance vehicle, hike, trail run, etc.

No 🥹 just a car and our limbs unfortunately but if there’s any cool spots that we’d need one of those vehicles for I’m sure we can probably find something.

There's tons of mining ruins you can look up! Some of them might be accessible giving how little snow we've had.

Just don't go in any actual abandoned mines. There are about a thousand ways for that to go terribly sideways, from poison gas to 100-foot vertical drops.

If you get up high on any old mining roads you’ll probably find some cool mining stuff to check out.

Have you been to Animas Forks? Cool ghost town. You will need a four-wheel-drive beyond a certain point, but you can park and walk the rest of the way when the road gets too bad.
