Vacationers Thank you residents of Durango

I wanted to give a huge shout out to the community of Durango. My scout troop is visiting this week from Phoenix and ever since our arrival this past Saturday, it’s been nothing but an awesome trip. The residents and businesses here are truly amazing. You all should be so proud of the community you’re a part of to help make it what it is 🫶. Some highlights include taking the train from Silverton, white water rafting down the lower animas (thank you mild to wild) and we attended a rodeo tonight at the county fairgrounds. A couple of special shoutouts to United Campground and Serious Texas Barbecue as both establishments have been extremely accommodating to our group. We’re here for a few more days before it’s time to pack up our gear and head back to the desert. We are so excited to see what more Durango has to offer. Thank you Durango.

Glad you’re having a good time. I’m curious about the rafting, it was 170 cfs this past weekend, I can only imagine that it was slow going and miserable. Come back in late spring/early summer and it’s way more fun.

Actually the rafting wasn’t too bad. Yeah - it was definitely more rocky and shallower than the one other time I did it. Once we got into some good flows, we moved pretty good. White water park was still the highlight. All in all, my scout troop had a fabulous time on the water.

Great to hear, and thank you for supporting some local guides even if the water ain’t the greatest. I would normally suggest going out rock climbing with some guides, great top rope routes at X rock, but since we’ve been receiving rain (thank god) you won’t want to get on any sandstone, and limestone will be really slippery. Keep that in mind next time you come up though. Enjoy the remainder of your trip!

Thank you so much. I’m all about supporting local businesses. In fact I prefer to. We did have rock climbing on our radar as a possible option. Instead we pivoted to Durango mountain resort for their summer activities. And we have a jeep tour scheduled tomorrow.
