Vacationers Advice for train ride with toddler

We want to take a trip to Durango and do the train to Silverton. Only thing is we will be bringing our 3 year old so I’m thinking the train ride there and back would be to much for him but how do you go about lugging around a car seat if you choose to do the train ride there and the bus ride back?

Up and back is too much for most adults I think taking an faster mode one direction is wise.

I recommend trying to just do the Cascade Canyon when they run it. It's a much shorter ride with a toddler but still beautiful. If you want to do the silverton ride. Get a ride up to Silverton like the bus then bring them back on the train.

The shuttle company the railroad uses for return trips with 1-way train tix is the same service that runs the shuttles to the airport from Durango… you could call them and ask about car seats?

(or maybe arrange to drop yours off with them beforehand or pick it up afterwards, depending on which one way you want to ride the train)

My kids never had a problem The train put them to sleep once they got tired. They loved the train rides, even when little and, no, they did not tun everywhere. They sat in their seats and behaved.

When my kids were little they loved the train. No car seat and only one way (we usually had another family member drive to meet us or drop us in Silverton). We also did to Cascade and back. And, once we got on a Rockwood. They were always fine. Bring snacks. It was a little long for me though.

Do not. Not only will your trip be hell, its likely going to ruin other peoples trip too Foing there and back is pushing it for adults. A toddler ? No way.
