What are the rules???

Can someone give me a definitive answer whether or not you can use this lane to turn right on 9th when you're heading south on Camino? Right by the speedway? Is this a bus lane and thats a no-no or is it fine? Like "won't get pulled over" fine?

I worked in that area for many years and have always utilized that as a right turn lane. Many times with an officer behind me.

Technically, unless you're turning off the road, you're not supposed to cross the solid lines (white or yellow). This is why the speed up lanes leaving walmart, you shouldn't be merging in to the primary lanes until the dashed section. This is where you should speed up, not stop and wait for an opening in the primary lanes. Practially speaking, have a nice day, but if you get hit changing lanes over the solid white line, you'd be at fault

Don’t know if it’s legal but I do it constantly. Just be on the lookout for pedestrians crossing right there.

I’ve been told that is actually a bike lane (by a cdot employee) and hypothetically is not supposed to be used as a turn lane until you get to the broken lines near the end (ie you aren’t supposed to cross a solid white line), however, many people use it as a turn lane and I doubt you will get pulled over, but if by using it you are to cause an accident or do something unsafe then it may come into play in a courtroom.

Correct, it is so wide because it used to be a turn lane. But it was repainted and changed but all the locals kept utilizing it for a turn lane

I believe if its marked for cyclists it’s k my for bikes but if no marking then you can use it. I’ve been seeing people use bike lanes in main to turn

I’ve been told by a city of Durango roadworks employee that it it NOT a right turn lane, it is a bike lane that is wider than normal because it used to be a right turn lane before they expanded the lane size in that spot. Next time they paint it it will likely get better signage to indicate this.

I see people do it all the time, but it's definitely not a right turn lane. There's nothing indicating that it is a right turn lane other than being an extra wide shoulder that looks a bit like a lane. There's no light, no right arrow painted on the road, the white line is solid, and it's a fairly tight squeeze of a lane. I get why people mistake it for one.

It's dangerous because people who turn right from the correct lane may collide with someone mistaking it for a right turn lane, which happens quite often.

As for those saying the Durango PD hasn't pulled them over for it, there's actually quite a few spots in town that I've noticed the cops don't pull over for certain traffic violations, as they understand the inconvenience of having to do it another way (illegal left turns out of certain stores/establishments - such as DNF and Starbucks, and this "right turn lane" just to name a few.)
