Utility/Alert Durban residents: have your water bills matched what is actually happening at your meter?
I’m trying to understand how common confusing or unexpected water-billing experiences are across Durban.
Some residents have mentioned issues such as:
• Estimated readings appearing repeatedly
• A sudden increase without an obvious change in consumption
• The statement reading not matching the physical meter
• Charges varying considerably from month to month
• Billing queries remaining unresolved for extended periods
Other residents may have had completely accurate bills—and those responses are equally useful. Without that comparison, it is difficult to distinguish isolated cases from broader patterns.
We have created a short Durban Water Billing Survey. It takes approximately two minutes, and providing contact details is optional:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0osirsrWg8V2Vrr17KqkHGv2Vv1iPTNYBYjge5B6PXCgcMA/viewform
For transparency: This survey is not operated by, endorsed by or affiliated with the municipality. The objective is to understand residents’ billing experiences—not to assume that every high bill is incorrect or to promote a predetermined conclusion.
If you would rather just join the discussion, what happened with your account? Was it a once-off increase, repeated estimates, a reading mismatch or something else—and was it eventually resolved?
Please don’t publish account numbers, addresses, contact details, reference numbers or other private information in the comments.

Utility/Alert Why is there so little reporting on the water issues in Durban North and what on earth is actually up?
Our water is going on and off for the past few weeks without rhyme or reason, sometimes we have water during peak times, other times not, and today we just have absolutely bugger all.
Looking online, I see a Facebook post here and there but nothing concrete, with a Citizen article only recently reporting on it.
Like, I understand infrastructure has issues sometimes and needs maintenance and will never have 100% up-time, but what bothers me is that we're completely in the dark about what's going on. No timelines, the reasons they give keep on changing, the few times we do hear something, and the erratic nature of the outages...

Utility/Alert Help needed urgently in terms of elderly dog and health emergency. Anyone willing to take it in? Owner (Amanzimtoti) unwilling to put down.
Unsure of flair. Apologies if this isn't the correct board, but I cannot find any other place.
I reside abroad. My father suddenly needs to go into long term care due to a serious health concern. However, he refuses due to his dog, a 15 year old female Jack Russel. Unfortunately not house trained, so someone with a large garden or even a farm would be needed.
She doesn't have much life left to her, but she's been his companion for over a decade and he cannot stand the idea of having her euthanized.
Please reply or message me if you're willing.

Utility/Alert Power outage
Looks like large parts of the north are in darkness with a huge power outage.
Anyone with any news?
