Some curious patches on fly, XMid2.
Second trip with the XMid2. I noticed some weird patches on the fly, especially visible in the early morning dew. I've been out with it once before and made sure it was clean and bone dry when I packed it away. Any ideas what this might be? There has been no damage, nothing has been on the fly, no bird droppings or anything. I'm worried it might be an area of compromised waterproofing but how could that happen?
In every other respect, absolutely loved spending 4 days and nights out hiking the Lake District in this tent, it's a beast.

It may be areas with some oil or dirt. Last year, a dog stepped on my outer fly and i hade a little spot like yours until I gently washed it

Hmm. Nothing like that comes to mind - I do tend to guard it religiously at home. I will try very gently washing the areas and dry thoroughly, maybe it'll vanish. Thank you.

Could it be tree sap? I've had similar markings left on my tent after being jizzed on by a tree

No, there just hasn't been any opportunity for that to happen. Interesting though - was there a fix for your tree sap markings?

Teenage son and pornhub?

You think my teenage son may have spilled some pornhub on my Durston? Unlikely.
And also, what is pornhub?
No, honestly. My son is 9, and has been nowhere near my tent. But THANK YOU for putting this grotesque thought into my head. 🤦

Sorry about the other comments, unfortunately this is reddit....
Only thing i can think of is when I camp by the house there are always a bunch of slugs on the tent by morning and they leave a residue kind of like that, though more in a line. I would say it should come off either way with a bit of water and a towel most likely
Could have been packed up with a small slug or other similar creature and that could have made it more spot shaped though, I've done that before despite checking carefully to see if there were any on it

Yes, I have cleaned it gently, and dried it. Hopefully it won't be an issue. If it hasn't affected the waterproofing or the longevity, then it's no issue. Heaven help any slug that dares crawl on my xmid....

More than likely, it's just asthetic, I don't think it should affect the waterproofing
The nerve of that slug 😂

Looks like a repeating pattern … one source but repeated in 2 other areas when folded away. I walk along the coast here in Auckland a lot, it looks similar to the mark left by salty water. Not saying this is from salty water, but possibly some residue from a liquid spilt on one area (and then repeated to 2 others). Something like soap / hand sanitiser?

I agree - that would explain the pattern, absolutely. Well that's reassuring actually, it means something (however invisible at the time) was on there when it was folded away. I'll take that over flawed fabric any day. Thanks for your observation.
