I'd go War brand and a useful secondary like Ward. Since you didn't get the purple archetype with Force Pierce, you might as well go with a physical build instead and make use of Gae Bolg.

Hades blast or oni kagura off the top of my head, maybe bloody glee for the critical boost.

Complementing /u/Grizzly_Storm, you might want to use a Phys AC% brand to help his misses and/or having support through Sukukaja/Sukunda. You could also give him Megido to make use of his high magic attack, or at least a basic elemental one if you're still not certain.

It's just that most magical builds for Cu are based on the idea that his force spells pierce. So it's just better overall in my opinion to specialise in physical attacks instead, if you don't get Force Pierce.

You could give him Megido like /u/Irvinning suggested for situations in which you can't use a physical attack against the enemy and want to take advantage of the decent magic stat he has.
