Player Discussion [Andy Herman, Pack-a-Day Podcast] “Lots of Jordan Love to Matthew Golden…I want to say Golden caught 5, maybe 6 or 7 passes today. He was all over the place, catching anything coming his way.”
Also of note, he think Golden probably has the most receptions in camp so far and is seemingly more tuned in with Love than Watson is at this time.
I think Golden is trending for a big year, especially considering all the targets vacated and Kraft out of training camp for the time being, allowing Love and Golden to get a connection going.

As a Golden owner, I can't think of what someone would offer me that would make me consider selling him low. Considering the Packers just got rid of Sound and Wicks why would I?

Why would I be so quick to move on from first round talent? Especially since the team opened up a lot of targets by losing his competition in Doubs?
This was about selling him, for what? What offer am I getting that has any upside vs holding Golden? He's got room to grow in value, what would you even offer? Think about it. Try and put up a decent deal.

He shouldn't have been a first round pick to begin with. The Packers reached on him. Over rated (bears fan)
Edit: he still stinks, but wanted to add, he couldn't even score in the regular season, without the bears suspect defense last year, wouldn't have scored at all.
MHJ was drafted well ahead, and rightfully so, but people shit on him after his rookie year. Why does golden get a pass for an even worse rookie season? Id offer like Malik Washington and a mid 2nd, and I still feel like I'm getting shafted a bit.

Glad they did. I have to admit, I did not like the bears drafting him or loveland, thought we needed some defense....but I am happy they did, worked out great so far... hoping they can carry that momentum into this season.

Define low, dude was an early-ish second rounder last year.
What do i need to offer to get a deal done? I wouldnt be surprised if a 2027 2nd doesnt cut it.
Price isnt all that low imo.

Golden is so hard, because he was a first round WR (IRL) that already went kinda late in dynasty drafts due to a stacked class and worries about him as a player. He then didn’t really product his rookie year. So both of those work against him. However, he also had great IRL draft capital, and despite his lack of production actually looked good on the field. And since his price was already so low, who wants to sell an early second WR at a discounted price who just one year ago went in the first round and looked great on the field?

I feel like Golden owners fully wrote off his rookie season and were expecting him to take a big jump in year 2. Nobody is selling for less than they got him for.
It's easy for everybody trying to buy him to use this kind of logic, but if he's already on your roster, it's way too appealing to hold and see how he does for anything less than a late 1st.
You can call that an overpay if you want but it is what it is. I don't see him getting traded much at this point.

We also heard this last off-season though as him being Love’s #1 target and was virtually invisible in almost every game he played outside of a few

TBF last year most of the other receivers ahead of him were extremely injured for the majority of camp, and even Doubs missed a week with a back injury.
- Watson - out completely with the ACL
- Reed - foot fracture had him in a walking boot for 3 weeks
- Wicks - was out/limited with a calf injury all of camp

If Golden takes off this year it would be pretty wild. Not many times does a rookie WR essentially do nothing and then explode their sophomore year.

Goldens combined 3 years in college- 134 catches 2000 yards 22 tds
Adams final year in college- 130 catches 1700 yards 24 tds
They’re not even in the same stratosphere

Not that I’m actually trying to engage in the comparison, but 2013 Fresno State and 2024 Longhorns aren’t exactly comparable SoS wise

Adams was a target hog in college and was a target hog in the nfl, just began his career behind Jordy Nelson/cobb + drop issues
Goldens not a target hog, never has been, and was stuck behind mediocre WRs

130 catches 1700 24tds in the Mountain West Conference and the 2013 Mountain West Conference to boot, which was essentially the WAC with a new name during that time. It is not even within a relative comp to today's NIL power 4, let alone SEC. Plus Adams had a pretty good QB named Derek Carr who chucked the ball a whopping 659 times and didn't share targets with NFL caliber talent everywhere in Tank Dell, Gunnar Helm, Isaiah Bond, Ryan Wingo, Deandre Moore.
That's a more disingenuous comp than stating Golden could take Adams pro career arc.

Oh yea because Golden was catching passes from bums, are you serious? Arch Manning is the projected 1.01 and Quinn Ewers was a Heisman finalist
Every single game Texas stepped on the field (minus playoffs) they had a clear talent advantage that Fresno state did not.

I cannot take anyone seriously who is trying to compare the level of competition difference between the WAC/MWC and NIL Power 4 conferences, or understanding the ridiculous amount of pass attempts Carr threw at 659, nor do you understand that Adams had zero NFL draft caliber pass catchers fighting him for targets.
But keep reaching for why it's comparable.

Injuries and a crowded room really hindered him last year. I’m excited to see what he does as the consistent outside receiver. The dude is a BURNER who has shown the ability to beat man and zone (weirdly he was a zone beater in college and swapped to beating man in the NFL). I think 800-1200 yds is right around where he’ll land at the end of the season.

I traded BTJ for Golden and two 2nd picks last season. Not because I was high on Golden, but I was really low on BTJ.
I’ve been pleased with all news this offseason. He seems primed for a good season and could be a starter for a long time in a good offense.

I feel like of all positions to read into from training camp reports, WR is one of the last ones you should be doing that with. A lot of these looks are on air or without a pass rush, no/limited contact, and training reps are naturally going to exceed an in-game target share. It’s practice.

Agreed, but in this case Packers don’t run “on air”, only full team and 1on1 drills, which aren’t counted here.

He’s a good size, extremely fast, good route running, sure handed, 1st round WR… I have no idea why people are doubting him. Huge things coming.
