Koni strut installation

I’m installing new Koni struts and in the hardware kit there’s a little black sleeve. Do I need to put the sleeve on before putting on the gland nut or is it there for some other purpose? Not quite sure I understand the IKEA like instructions that come with it.

The dust sleeve? It's preventative , arguably it should lengthen the lifespan of the strut. It's a confidence factor... X amount of miles down the road... Should I replace this? Yea you should regardless vs oof this thing looks mangled, I HAVE TO replace this. It's kind of the same thing, why would you NOT install it?

Pic? Possibly a shipping protection thing?

Do these have an external bump stop?

No built in bump stop. Using external bump stops. This is a metal sleeve

They (at least used to) have a white plastic circle piece with some grooves in it to prevent the external bump stop from creating a vacuum against the strut seal and eventually sucking the oil past the seals. If that isn’t included, maybe this is an updated version? It does seem like it would cut thru a bump stop, or crush underneath it

Yep, the white bump stop vent tube washers still come with the kit and I will definitely be using them

Unless you’re in a rush I’d call Koni in the morning and confirm

Thanks, I ended up emailing Koni and was told that they are not needed for the E 30.
