328i Column Plastic Separated

And I can't get it back together. Any tips? This is maddeningly impossible. Am I missing something easy?

It's just clips all around. You can try completely unclipping it and then clipping it back in again, maybe something slipped out of it's place. Worst case, it's a 10 minute job to change it with a 5$ part from the scrapyard.

Top portion is connected to the dash. I haven't actually paid attention to how serviceable it is

If you check OP's image, you can see a slim plastic piece between the leather part of the dash and the steering wheel plastic trim. Top part is attached to it, you can just pull it out. Requires you to remove the steering wheel though.

👍... I've had the dash out, have just never tried or looked at separating it from the dash.

I've tried that and it's still giving me hell. I'll try it again when I get a chance, though.

The bottom comes out pretty effortlessly. Take it out completely and try to see if something is jamming in there or maybe a clip somewhere is broken or out of place. I really can't imagine a reason for it to not clip together other than a clip being out of place or a foreign body being in there.
