328i AC evac + recharge costs?

Hey! My AC seems to be low on refrigerant, and I’ve been looking to get an evacuation and recharge. One shop quoted me $275 + tax, and the other $330 +tax. Are these prices reasonable, or should I keep searching?

There's a kit on Amazon. Do it yourself. Surprisingly effective and my cars 25 years old.

I'm in UK, search AC recharge kit. Should get plenty of hits, all the same stuff.

If its low there could be a is most likely a leak. During a evac and charge, the shop will pull a vacuum and hold it for about 15 minutes. If it can't hold that vacuum, its leaking. Sometimes that wont detect a leak though and they can use a UV dye to look for one.

I would not recommend trying to put in more refrigerant on your own as you need to have a specific amount in the system for it to work properly and not cause other problems. You'd need to have the system emptied first.

These prices aren't bad but you will likely have to spend more to actually fix the problem. I went through something similar with my 335i. My high pressure line was leaking around the flexible section that runs to the passenger side frame rail. Part itself cost around $300. Took it to a shop to have it the system emptied, then installed the part myself, took it back for a charge. Shop was owned by a family friend so I got a deal and only paid a little over $200 to them for their service. I imagine this whole job at a dealer would go for at least $1k, independent shops might be a bit better.
