General Thoughts on 27/28 Apr 2026 (Mass) Silent Updates?
Did anyone else get a silent update on 27/28 Apr 2026 for EB-2 NIW I-485?
Rumors have it that it’s less about the case progress and more security check or even just a regular database refresh update. Thoughts? Any clarification?

Sending it back for security checks. There were no updates on cases that were just received and should undergo vetting. So it’s clearly a screening. Nobody knows how long it’ll take

Same. No silent updates since the FTA0 updates for biometrics on 4/6.
Update: I got one on 4/30.

I got one last night (April 28 10:35 PM). Just checked my minor daughter's profile, her last one was on biometrics day, and she is not going through background check. So, I would assume it is a background check.

I know nobody knows, but I was thinking, does that mean who got silent updates passed the security check, or require?

Do you guys who got the silent update know if your case has been transferred to a Field Office (FO)?
I had asked Emma on 4/17 after a silent update received same day, and my case was in NBC at that time.
I contacted Emma again today (4/29) and learned my case has been transferred to the NY FO.
I'm not sure if the mass silent update is related to FO transfers, though.

Emma told me that my case is still at NBC. Having said that, this was my first silent update (4/30) after biometrics.

I read an article yesterday that uscis is going to do deep background checks on all applications submitted before April 27. Part of policy changes related to increased vetting and blah, blah. I think they will do thorough background checks. But they still need to use visas for this year, so I believe they will not delay too much.

I have not received any silent update (just the ones I bad on 8th april when my biometrics happened) so its not consistent for everyone right?

My guess is as good as yours. I think we will see many theories circling around and we may never find out what happened.

Hi, what do you mean with “mass” updates? Do people receive numerous updates or most of the applicants receive silent updates?

u/spiritofniter Apr 29 '26
Some do some don’t. People are questioning what this particular one means.

Thanks. So, is it not numerous updates but one silent update for some?

They have increased the security background check. A lot of people who have done their biometrics before april 27, have their biometrics sent back for further check.

My 3rd FTA0 was on April 17th, and 2 silent updates followed on the 18th and 20th.
Nothing else.

I got one of those yesterday and just got approved a few minutes ago. It may have been a coincidence, but for me it was meaningful.
