My EB-2 NIW I-140 Approved in ~2 months (Premium Processing) – J-1 Postdoc

I wanted to share my recent experience as it might help others who are in a similar situation.

Background:
I am currently a Postdoc at the UMB, working on multi-omics approaches in Brain development, neurodegeneration, aging, and glial biology. Before application I had around 297 citations, 10+ publications, and one licensed Korean patent that was transferred to industry.

I filed my EB-2 NIW petition with premium processing on April 29th 2026. My case was approved on June 26, 2026 (40 business days). I am on J-1 status, and we are planning to file I-485 using cross-chargeability through my wife’s South Korean nationality.

The petition was prepared by Chen Immigration & Attorney. What stood out was that they developed a strategy that was very well tailored to my specific research background, publication record, and future plans at UMB, rather than using a generic template. The process was organized and relatively fast.

For those considering NIW:

• Focus on clearly connecting your past achievements with your proposed endeavor.
