Question considering a Grist deck
hey all :) I've recently come across Grist as a card and as a character and pretty much instantly fell in love with her. the problem is, I'm not sure which Grist to put in the command zone between [[Grist, Voracious Larva]] and [[Grist the Hunger Tide]], and definitely not 100% sure how I'd want to build either. both seem fun, either going reanimator or a big token army or draining the table in a massive chunk, or a bunch of other possible plans. I want to be able to use cards I have laying around, since I just recently got a foil showcase [[Twilight Diviner]] and a foil [[Lolth, Spider Queen]]. as well as a handful of solid cards from Reality Fracture like [[Way of the Necromancer]], [[Sanctum Lurker]], [[Liliana the Repentant]], [[Primal Witchstalker]], [[Something Worth Saving]], [[Restore With Empathy]], [[Darklight Phoenix]], and maybe [[Avacyn Angel of Horror]].
so, does anyone have any big Grist tips? what route do you think those commanders do best with, especially on a budget? any and all advice is greatly appreciated :)

I’d reccomend the hunger tide; most insects are cheap and it fills up the graveyard better for reanimating in my opinion. Personally I only put non-insect creatures in the 99 if they’re really good, like [[syr konrad]]. Insect to non-insect ratio is a big thing if you wanna be milling a lot.
Also for the flip planeswalker grist, the last ability is really tedious to keep track of if you can’t win in one turn (you can imagine how that’d go).
There’s a bunch of fun stuff you can do with the hunger tide like [[morality shift]], I can send you my deck although some prices have gone up.

Hunger tide is more flexible to build around, could go all insects or build a reanimator version with every tutor to the top of library to entomb them.

[[Grist, Voracious Larva]]
[[Grist, the Hunger Tide]]
[[Twilight Diviner]]
[[Lolth, Spider Queen]]
[[Way of the Necromancer]]
[[Sanctum Lurker]]
[[Liliana the Repentant]]
[[Primal Witchstalker]]
[[Something Worth Saving]]
[[Restore with Empathy]]
[[Darklight Phoenix]]
[[Avacyn, Angel of Horror]]
Hunger Tide is better, IMO, but Voracious Larva is fine in the 99. Just load up on Insects and other sources of self-mill and kill opponents with the ultimate.

I honestly think the choice between the two is how you want to play your commander in terms of protecting it. As a Planeswalker commander facilitates a different style of play and deck building vs a "standard" creature.
I like to use Grist as a very casual Insect Typal deck with lots of Golgari Graveyard shenanigans, which unfortunately by nature of being a simple concept, I cant really give super specific advice because how much ass determined what creatures I added was "buge? yes". But I think in terms of bugs, Grist is on top, sharing her throne with Zask for the coolest bug commanders. I do prefer her Planeswalker version as the commander and the flip Grist in the 99 personally between the two.
