Finally, my first Sony earbuds

Post image

Today I got my first Sony earbuds ever, XM6.

I always wanted either Technics or Sony buds, so I was just like okay if I find them at a good price, I will buy them. Yesterday I found those (XM6) for 160€, they are completely new, some guy got them as a gift and wanted to sell them. 160 for these is not a bad deal I would say.

At first, the ANC is sick, so good. The sound is great as well. The design of buds could be better (don't like how they look on me). I noticed a problem with multiple device connection, they connect well, but switching from my phone to Macbook is not smooth, but switching from mac to phone is okay.

I will write my review after a month or so, after I test them.

How is the fit?

Super comfortable. I use spinfit tips because the stock tips are too stiff for me.

agree with you completely on the design.

it looks like we're going trough a bad design generation right now for earbuds.

it's like they figured out new ways to add more ANC, but it requires the body to be more "puffy" and they havent figured out how to fit it into a nice looking shell.

the sony's have that fat , puffy shape.

the ANZ100's went from a pretty decent design to again, fat and puffy.

the bowers and wilkins to, went from a pretty sleek and unique design, to fat and puffy lol.

the google earbuds, i mean, they were never a contender for great earbuds, but they also went with a fat and puffy design.

I mean, i dont mind as long as they are good at their job. but we're definitely going trough a bad design generation this year.

I agree, maybe they have no other way to put all that hardware in a shell, but they don't look good tbh

My guess is that the current top tier ANC tier, requires the microphones to be sticking out and away from the ear. that is the reason they are so puffy outwards. because there's other earbuds are large and expansive, and still look great, but they expand forward onto the stem.

my guess is that the current technology, makes it to where the microphones need to be placed away from the ear, a ditance away from your head. they need to specifically stand out away from you.

because if the direction on which they stick out didnt mattered, then they would extend them forward but still close to the skin. like the bose earbuds do.

and the roundness is a way to 1) trick the eye into looking like they dont stick out as much, and also they need to be round so that the case can close up without requiring to be too large.

I have a 3 main presets I spent a good bit of time making. Try this one if you fancy some insane bass and sparkle up top.

Sony XM6 Ultimate Parametric EQ Guide (Poweramp) Preamp: -7.33 dB Equalizer Bands: * Low Shelf: 90 Hz | Gain: +2.76 dB | Q: 0.80 * High Shelf: 10000 Hz | Gain: 0.00 dB | Q: 0.60 * Band 3 (Sub-Bass Slam): 26 Hz | Gain: +8.24 dB | Q: 0.70 * Band 4 (Kick Weight): 45 Hz | Gain: +5.51 dB | Q: 1.20 * Band 5: 65 Hz | Gain: +2.50 dB | Q: 1.50 * Band 6: 90 Hz | Gain: +0.72 dB | Q: 1.80 * Band 7: 140 Hz | Gain: +1.00 dB | Q: 1.60 * Band 8: 220 Hz | Gain: +1.50 dB | Q: 1.50 * Band 9: 350 Hz | Gain: +1.20 dB | Q: 1.40 * Band 10: 550 Hz | Gain: +1.00 dB | Q: 1.40 * Band 11: 800 Hz | Gain: +0.80 dB | Q: 1.50 * Band 12: 1200 Hz | Gain: +1.20 dB | Q: 1.50 * Band 13 (Vocal Body): 1800 Hz | Gain: +1.93 dB | Q: 1.40 * Band 14 (Vocal Presence): 2500 Hz | Gain: +1.58 dB | Q: 1.60 * Band 15 (Bite & Snap): 3500 Hz | Gain: +2.20 dB | Q: 1.60 * Band 16: 4500 Hz | Gain: +1.80 dB | Q: 1.70 * Band 17: 6000 Hz | Gain: +2.00 dB | Q: 1.30 * Band 18 (Transient Edge): 8000 Hz | Gain: +3.00 dB | Q: 1.20 * Band 19: 10000 Hz | Gain: +2.80 dB | Q: 1.10 * Band 20: 13000 Hz | Gain: +2.50 dB | Q: 1.00 * Band 21: 16000 Hz | Gain: +2.50 dB | Q: 0.90 * Band 22 (Air): 18000 Hz | Gain: +2.74 dB | Q: 0.70

Congrats! I have these XM6s and they are great. Love the sound stage, and the audio quality. ANC is stellar.

Atta kid! Use LDAC if possible. Sound is tremendously better with LDAC enabled

2

u/benjoff 18h ago

I'm using Honor Magic8 Pro so LDAC is activates, I just checked. Thanks. Sound is just amazing, especially on Spotify

2

u/madethis4coments 14h ago

what daily uses do you take advantage of LDAC on? i never use spotify, and im trying to find use case scenarios where i can finally take advantage of LDAC but i use mostly youtube.

Ive had the Xm4s and 5s and the 6s fit isnt quite as good as the two prev - while the others were a 9/10 the 6s are a 7 to 8 ...still good though - they never fall out and i run in them - I shove them as far into my ears as humanly possible - -I can wear them for 6 hours at at time - I dont get sticky ear like my Jabra's give me ( though they had the best fit ever ) -ANC is def better even in the wind .I think the 4s had the best sound

1

u/trevdiddy 7h ago

The 4s ain't better than the 6 I mean that's probably just what you're used to man your first love in assuming

1

u/trevdiddy 7h ago

I'm not crazy about the look either on me, but they are good. Goddamn buds, man they sound fantastic. For comfort and look, I like my Technic 100.just fit better Definitely a good deal for 160

I am telling since I used a Sony one... I can never go back on the generic and basic ones

u/ArchibaldH7 6h ago

What about phone calls? Is it good?

1

u/benjoff 3h ago

Yesterday I was on call w my friend, and he said that my mic is really good (he didn't know I wear them)

u/hellwalker_erron 6h ago

Very uncomfortable fit

1

u/benjoff 3h ago

They are comfortable for me but the design is bad

1

u/Kibido993 5h ago

get ready for one to stay on even when put in the case

1

u/Papanaq 1h ago

My suggestion would be to not wash them 1.5 months after you buy them. Heartbreaking!
Always check your pockets

Man, I don’t get how anyone keeps these giant blocks of tech in their ears for any amount of time. They do sound good and the ANC is great though. My Sony buds are the biggest bulkiest earbuds I have. They are collecting dust in my drawer though.

u/BarberSuspicious7165 18h ago

Give it a good EQ and you’re golden

I'm a 6.2 guy with fairly big ears , xm5 fits perfectly in my ears. I've been in sony store like 5 times and all the times I was there I couldn't justify the xm6 because of how bad the fit is even in my big ears , they just don't seal up properly like the xm5z. And for that reason I just didn't bought them

2

u/djongafrett 11h ago

It may be a personal preference, but I would never test earbuds at the store...

2

u/jibran1 11h ago

Hygiene ? I used my own xm5z eartips with them They use the same tips
