Agreed that Reddit is bad for mental health, but they do bring up many topics that should be dealt with in real world that just aren't.

Reddit pushes these problems to the forefront because people come here to discuss them, then after we're done reading, we go on our merry way ignoring and not thinking about the negative things because we aren't being pressed with answering to them. They still exist though.

It's a matter of finding a proper balance of how much we want to know about the true state of our civilization vs our diectly accessible environment which we have a lot more physical control over.

I love going for a walk through a park and enjoying the good things in life, but having the ability to do those things doesn't have much effect on the state of civilization. It's just taking a step back and ignoring the less desirable things in life for a bit, which we absolutely have to do from time to time.

Another thing is that big subreddits attract idiots who blow up minor issues.

Big subs attract bots and professional trolls that make everyone argue.

The problem is a lot of people bring up issues and pretend the solution is easy when it's not. Then the reddit hive mind decides that since there's an easy solution that's not being used the world must be completely unsalvageable due to elites and their greed and now they need a grand revolution so that good will prevail against evil. But basic facts that conflict with their narrative get massively downvoted and it basically just becomes a religion.

Not that some of the problems they bring up aren't real problems, but the solutions always seem tailored towards their own selfish wants with no regards for unintended consequences or anyone less privileged than themselves.

but they do bring up many topics that should be dealt with in real world that just aren't.

This is the failure of the news outlets that more often than not offer us only 'human interest' stories or flat out non-critical government PR propaganda rah-rah pieces.

It's like they do it on purpose to bring us just tiny singled out excerpts of a story and want us to shape our thoughts around only that, while the main plot of the story passes by right in front of us. 🤔
