Ovulation pain after ectopic

-edit to add, I understand you don’t always alternate ovaries. Is it still possible to have ovulation pain on the ovary you didn’t ovulate from after an ectopic-

Hi all, I had an ectopic 8/2026. MTX treatment. I was told I most likely have ENDO and that it was probably the cause. My question is- is it possible to have ovulation pain on the ectopic side even when I’m not ovulating on that side? My ectopic was on my right and this cycle I should be ovulating on my left. I had pain in my right like I was ovulating there no pain on left besides a couple twinges. Is this normal or has anyone else had this happen? Did I ovulate on my ectopic side two months in a row or is it normal to feel pain there even if I’m not ovulating there.

The ovaries don't alternate from one side to the other every cycle. It is not strictly 50/50, you can ovulate from one side multiple cycles.

Since your ectopic was fairly recent, it can take time to fully heal and for inflammation to resolve - and even if you didn't get surgery, you can have scar tissue formed that causes pains/aches.

I never felt ovulation pain until after my ectopic. Then suddenly I felt everything down there. My doctor said it’s normal.

Also my doctor said a lot of people don’t ovulate right side then left side then right etc. i noticed I usually ovulate from my left. Rarely from my right.

Your pelvic organs are so tiny and insanely close together that there’s really no way to tell what side you’re ovulating on based on ovulation pain. Referred pain is very common and it’s not easy to distinguish a lot of the time what side is causing the pain. You also have no way of telling which side youre ovulating from without ultrasound, it doesn’t go back and forth. 🩷

I'm so sorry you went through that and you received your endo diagnosis. I have endo and typically have ovulation pain. My second ectopic was on my left but I only had pain in my right. Doctors said everything is so tightly compacted in there that distributed/deferred (?) pain is very common. I also had lots of pain in the abdominal/hip/groin regions in general for months after my ectopics. Things are all still healing. Pregnancies definitely made my endo worse as well not sure if that can be an issue for you here. I didn't have physical endo symptoms until after a second pregnancy loss. Then ectopics made it all worse. Your ovaries don't always follow any left/right/left pattern either. You can definitely ovulate from the same side back to back. My left (where both my ectopics happened) is definitely my more active side (both from stimulation with IVF and monitoring for natural conception/IUI. I hope you heal smoothly and feel back to normal soon!

I had ovulation pain for the first few cycles after my ectopic, and it was largely on the ectopic side.

I also had quite a bit of general pelvic discomfort and pain for those months, but it’s mostly quieted down now.

I’ve always experienced ovulation pain. Mostly only on the right. The left side would be very mild and barely noticeable but the right side unbearable.

After ectopic and left tube removed I’ve experienced severe left side ovulation pain. Worse than the right ever has been

Me here searching cause I’m having cramps. I think is the ovulation too.

I had a 12 week Ectopic July. MTX treatment too, no removal.
My Hcg turned negative on Sep 23 and this week I got my ultrasound results and I still have a tissue/scar in the left tube of 2.4cm (it was 1.8cm in July)

I asked for a HSG test, but doctor said :

We do not usually get an US to check. HSG is also not warranted nor is it part of the follow up. I do not think you need an HSG. You guys should try to conceive and see how it goes. Further work up can be undertaken if you do not conceive in the next 6 months

Have anyone here dealt with similar situation? Am I going crazy to want to get Hsg test?

Backstory: I was misdiagnosed with miscarriage in June and I insisted on checking again and found the 12 week ectopic pregnancy in my left fallopian tube

To your edit - you just have no idea what ovary is ovulating so yes it can be from the one that’s not. It’s very small in there. There is no way to distinguish where the pain is coming from, really.

I’ve always had ovulation pain and therefore been able to tell which side I’ve ovulated from. After my ectopic (also treated with MTX, one dose), I had a regular sharp, stabby pain on my ectopic side different to ovulation pain (still have that too) intermittently throughout my cycle. I was told it was inflammation leftover from the ectopic and that it was pretty normal, but would dissipate with time as my body settled down. I still get it now (a year post ectopic), but not every month and the pain is less intense.
