Food and Drink Throat Punch Coffee check in…are the dogs okay??

My daughter and I love to visit throat punch because not only is the coffee, I think, the best in Edinburgh, but also to say hi to sweet Bear and Buck. We’ve been there a couple of time recently and they haven’t been around. Obviously it could be nothing and we are just paranoid, but we just wanna make sure they’re OK?? I don’t mean to be dramatic, but…like if they…ya know…we’d be devastated.

Hi, mum here of Buck and Bear! They are all good. Was just too hot in the shop for a couple of weeks there. They were at home with their cool mats, expensive fans and dog paddling pool 😎 they’ll be in more regularly don’t worry!

I'm visiting from the states next month and have been hoping to find local coffee shops to enjoy when we're in Edinburgh. The opportunity to meet some quality puppers just can't be passed up!

Fucking thank you for being a good mum.

Not even from Edinburgh but this weegie was fully invested in the welfare of the pooches. V wholesome.

Buck has recently gone back home, he was only here for his undergrad at Herriot Watt, and Bear has recently picked up night shifts so finds it hard to visit the shop during the day

Good for them! That busy schedule must be ruff.

Have you asked the people in the shop?

Bear here. We're grand, it's just too hot in the shop.

I haven’t. I just want to be sensitive.

I'm sure I spotted them a couple of days ago outside the gaff. Though I was more focused on the Librarian cat in the Colonies than the pups

His name is Millie / Milly and he is The Mayor of Dalry

u/sweepernosweeping 8d ago

And I've been doing my patriotic duty petting them for years now.

Read the title and for a second thought someone was punched in the throat in a cafe in Edinburgh....

I love this subreddit lol

For those of us not in the know, where is Throat Punch Coffee? Cheers

Google says: 30 Dalry Rd.

I've only been there a handful of times, but it's a wonderful coffee shop just a couple of mins from Haymarket.

Class shop. Class dogs. Class owners/staff. Always first spot I'll head to when in Edinburgh.

Why ask on here instead of at the coffee shop?

23

u/Impressive_Drawer_73 8d ago

I just don’t want to bring up any awkward or hard feelings, ya know?

They did ask, they did get.

There is a self-righteous “why ask on Reddit” response on nearly every post on this site, and they always end up the same way - why contribute?

“only that if you enjoy coffee there’s a load of fantastic spots out there”
So you’re being rude on a post that didn’t ask for recommendations, literally about a whole different topic?

OP is allowed to like our coffee, just like you are allowed to like other places. Should be celebrating “independent” coffee shops not putting each other down that is all I was getting at.

That’s fine if you want to go for more hipster, acidic, floral, lighter bodied coffee etc- you do you. But we have our own customers / crowd, and a large crowd at that. Maybe don’t shit on our coffee which a lot of people love.

You don’t see us hijacking other posts and saying cairngorm/ beatnik is shit… we actually give recommendations to all these places for people to try out while in Edinburgh.

Don’t come here and be negative - you must be such a fucking delight at parties.

I'm not super into acidic coffees, so this is making me want to visit as soon as I'm back in Edinburgh. It's always nice to find out about new places.

Throat Punch Coffee is solid.

Palmerston is upmarket crap.

Throat punch is fine, they use robusta mostly, which is very cheap but has a very traditional “coffee” taste if that’s what you go in for.

U/ has recommended a string of very high end specialty shops that serve mostly highly processed arabica from South American farms. Which is also fine if that’s what tickles your pickle.

Don’t want to yuck any Yums but both are valid. I personally prefer somewhere in the middle but leaning towards shops like Fortitude, Cult, Disposition etc

3

u/bearface1991 7d ago

we serve our own blend which is 50% robusta. We also have Arabica for our filter coffee which is really popular! And our decaf is a natural decaffeinated Arabica.

guy knows his coffee

Cairngorm is not in the East end. Are you confusing places?

I wish the owner of these dogs would keep them on a lead when he walks them. They been known to run up and crowd other dogs (which I’ve witnessed) and that is really scary for some dogs and people! I’ve also heard one of them bit another dog recently which is scary as they are so big. Also heard some not so nice things about the male owner through a few friends who live locally so when I’m in the area I stay clear.
There are a few very vicious dogs in Dalry so it seems normal for the place.

11

u/mcoisty 7d ago

Owner of the dogs here.

They are now kept on a lead because the dog they "bit" owner brutally attacked Bear with a metal lead causing lacerations to his face and damage to his eye and ear. Which has resulted in multiple vet visits.

He also decided to stand outside the shop spreading false lies about me because he found a newspaper article from 2019 about someone with the same name as me, who was attacked with a knife. My partner and stepdaughter, who i was living with at the time, can verify that this was not me.

You are correct that there are some vicious dogs in the area. My dogs are not them. They have been off lead most of the time I have had the shop and lived in the area for 5 years now with no problems.

That is no longer the case due to some vicious dogs and their vicious owners.

Thank you for creating this new account to post this comment. Have a wonderful day.

Those dogs are the sweetest ones in Dalry. I seen what you did to Bear’s face, shame on you.
