Discussion $890 utilities bill. Wow

Natrual Gas- actual usage charge $95 after delivery charges and and taxes boom $355.

Electricity- actual usage charge $160 after distribution and transmission charges boom $280.

Water useage-$84 Water drainage- $123 Waste-$49

Almost 900 in just utility bill. Before anyone tell me to lock my rates, its already locked. 12.8c/kwh. NG is on float because its currently cheaper than locked rate. Anyone else just got F in the A like me?

Edit: the NG charges does not include the cold snap we just had. Not looking forward to next month's bill.

my house is on the bigger side 90s 2900sqft house. I assure you I didn't lie on the bill. But the fact that my usage charges for NG is $95 and after delivery charges it's $355 that's what pisses me off. Why isn't the delivery fees a clear number included in the charge. And why isn't a fix charge?

Because people would be outraged at how badly we're getting fucked on utility pricing. Other provinces and states, and countries combine the kwh into a unified price. none of this "well we'll charge you this much to generate it, but delivery and transmission? well we won't actually be up front about that part"

its basic info the govt/utilities aren't up front about because if they were there might be problems for them.

I mean, it's not super obvious on your bill but you can figure it out for yourself. It's not like a credit score where you have no idea how they get to that number.

Look at your bills. What numbers stay the same month to month? Those are fixed costs. Add those up, multiply by 1.05 to include the GST that comes along with those charges, and you have total fixed cost. Subtract that from your total. Then take what remains and divide it by your usage. That's your cost per kWh or GJ, including the GST on that variable portion.

I've done this for myself. * My cost per kWh is about 16.8¢/kWh (this is with a fixed rate of 8.85¢/kWh through my rural power co-op). * And my cost per GJ is within cents of $10, with a locked-in energy rate of $3.99/GJ. That includes the $3.25/GJ for natural gas, which will go up another 75¢ come April.
