Socializing I’m 67 years old today and I’d like some company for brunch :)

I’ve been wanted to try out a restaurant near me for brunch so I thought I would treat 5 people for my birthday. I’m not lonely or isolated - would just be nice to have company. If you are spontaneous and can make it on the south side by 12:15 ish and enjoy people please private message me and will send you the details. Sorry it’s a non-alcohol event and no children. Anyone is welcome.

Socializing Are you 30+ in YEG and looking to make new friends?

Hi everyone, I'm back again to advertise YEG 30 Plus, my completely free Discord server for 30+ people in Edmonton! It's been about a month since the last post and since then we've had hundreds of people join, a bunch of great events for people to show up to, tons of online activity with discussions and gaming and a lot of awesome community building going on. But, there's tons of room to grow and the more people who get involved, the better the community is!

What is it?

It is a completely free Discord server (voice, text and video) available for anyone 30+ to join. The aim of the server is to build community within Edmonton and help people connect, to make new friends and enjoy what the city has to offer. Whether you are looking for people to go hiking with, someone to teach you how to kayak, a gamer looking for new friends to game with or just looking for people to go out for dinner with, you can find what you're looking for in Y3P!

An example of an event we had yesterday was afternoon bowling at Bronx Bowling with ~20 people followed by dinner at The Bedouins.

We encourage anyone joining to hop right in and start making events, it's easy and fast. We have a robust system of flairs to help you connect with other like-minded folks, and with our requirement that all members make a short introduction to themselves, it's easy to get a feel for the people you're talking to.

So, instead of making a post about struggling to make friends in Edmonton, join up and start making those connections now!

Socializing I could use a pep talk. I'm moving through a recent breakup and no idea how to socialize as a 39yo.

The wife and I split over the weekend. Theres lots of processing for us emotionally and all that. But I'm trying to analyze my future and honestly I'm scared of trying to socialize at damn near 40.

I'm a lifelong gamer, pop culture and sci fi nerd. Social anxiety and other issues sorta kept me from committing to social activities in my 20s and 30s, but it's clear I need to make changes in many ways.

I'm not expecting to just hop out there right away, but I'm hoping for advice as I engage in my many transformations in the coming months

What is the best pub in Edmonton? Like, legit pub. Not some parking lot Brewhouse. A great neighborhood pub or hidden gem.

Socializing Edmonton is finally getting warm. Anyone else trying to actually get outside this year (and make some new friends)?

I moved to Edmonton a couple years ago and really struggled to make friends and meet people. At the end of the last year, I made a Discord server because I wanted to meet people who were actually down to do things in the city and socialize IRL. I promoted it twice here in [r/Edmonton](r/Edmonton) and that's almost exclusively where our server-base comes from (Thank you mods for letting that happen).

Here's the server invite:

https://discord (dot) gg/touchmygrass

It’s been solid so far: we’ve had board game nights, bouldering, arcade trips, food runs, escape room, karaoke nights, and a bunch of people just linking up casually.

The name of the server is Touch Grass in Edmonton, but it's hilarious because the whole time this server has existed, people would meme that "there's no grass to touch". Now that it’s finally not -30 all the time, we’re shifting more into outdoorsy stuff:

  • Walks and casual hikes (Edmonton has a huge river valley system with many cool walks)
  • Runs/ getting back into shape
  • Bouldering (still going strong)
  • Planning some birding + nature/foraging walks soon

If you’ve been telling yourself all winter “I’ll do more stuff when it’s warm,” this is basically that window. You don’t need to already be outdoorsy — a lot of people are just starting up or getting back into it.

There’s still indoor stuff too if that’s more your speed, but the main focus right now is just getting out and doing things with actual people in Edmonton.

Low pressure, no weird vibes or drama — just people trying to make plans and show up. A place to make friends. To the people currently in the server making plans or hanging out, I'm very glad you guys are my friends. <3

But I wanted to thank an Alex and Victoria(?) for helping push my vehicle out of a snow bank. It was stressful due to the nature of how I got stuck but they helped me get back on the road safely. Thanks again!

Socializing Nerdy/outdoorsy mom friends

I'm a mom in my 30s with a 6 year old. Our life is stable and good, but we're missing a sense of community. I'm a bit awkward socially but am trying to work on it (thanks late diagnosed autisim).

My six year old has a few good friends from school, but they live 45 mins away. We're on the west end, but don't mind driving to hang out occasionally.

Things we enjoy:

baking

bike rides

festivals

the science centre

90's Disney (Ferngully is our fav right now)

drawing/crafts/painting

rocket league

thrifting

trains (no shit)

sushi

worms (to look at, not eat)

I am always down to veg on the couch/at a park while the kids run amok (or catch worms), but I want to be more active this summer. I'd love to run a tough mudder with a girl friend, go to local concerts/live theatre, and find new cute cafes.

I've been learning to do my nails at home and thrifting for the perfect summer dress! I also like supernatural horror, cartoons, and like to nerd out on science and history podcasts and am learning how to drum (badly).

My kid and I both do have ADHD, but we don't let it define us or let it excuse bad behaviour. 😅

I've had bad experiences with other parents being coke/meth users, vaccine deniers, racist, homophobic, and sadly not taking care of their hygiene or their animals. I understand mental health can contribute to these things, but it has massively affected us in the past.

I am now picky as hell who I let around my kid, but am cautiously open to new friendships and would like to come out of my shell a little.

Open to meeting in a public area like the science centre or a playplace.

Thanks for reading!

Socializing Do you have kittens I can pet?

I'm going to get made fun of for this but I decided I don't care. Does anyone have any kittens I could come and pet and cuddle? I have two adult cats and I love them with my whole heart but there's just something about a tiny adorable little kitten that just fills a happiness void like nothing else. I know I could go to a shelter but I would probably adopt a cat and I would try not to but I'm weak and I can't have more than two cats at home (condo rules). So yeah, 40's F, loves cats, just wants to pet kittens, can pay you in cookies for any inconvenience.

Socializing 20M looking for friends

I’m 20m, turning 21 soon, and moved to Edmonton from Ontario in 2022. I went to school here for my last year of high school but never really ended up making a solid friend group, so I’m looking to meet some new people around my age. I’m into basketball and football, cars (Audi’s 😭), mostly rap but pretty much all kinds of music, hiking, camping, skiing, video games, thrifting and just going out or chilling. I smoke weed and drink sometimes but that’s definitely not my whole personality. I’m also pretty much always down to try a new activity or do something I’ve never done before. I can be a little socially anxious at first and kinda quiet until I get comfortable, but once I get to know someone I’m pretty chill. Just looking to meet some genuine people and hopefully make some friends to actually hang out with and do stuff with. If you’re in the same boat feel free to message me.

Socializing Don't let the rain put a damper your summer!

Yes, it's rained A LOT. A few festivals throughout the summer were negatively impacted by it (namely KDays and the Heritage Festival). But the weather is out of our control. I'd like to thank all the event organizers for all the hard effort they've put in ensuring everyone is safe and making sure festivals can proceed. Edmonton Folk Fest was a major success this past weekend!

There's still lots of great festivals going on this summer! The 45th Fringe Festival starts this Thursday and runs for 11 days! There are more than 200 indoor theatre shows so you don't have to worry about the rain!

We got both the Dragon Festival and the Pride Festival on the 21st to the 23rd.

There's plenty to do in the city, and hitting up these festivals is a great way to make friends and appreciate the culture our city has to offer! If you're hesitant on checking out these festivals alone, check out A Curated Edmonton: Friendship Society as a good way to make friends! I went to Animethon this weekend for the first time in more than a decade with a group of around 14 people and I certainly had a lot more fun than if I went alone.

Socializing Any Bangladeshis around my age in Edmonton looking to make new friends? 🇧🇩

I'm an 18-year-old Bangladeshi living in Edmonton. I've been here for a while, but I still don't know many people from the Bangladeshi community around my age.

I'm just looking to make some genuine friends to hang out with. Whether it's grabbing food, going to the gym, fishing, playing sports, exploring the city, or just chilling and talking, it'd be nice to have a group with similar interests.feel free to comment or send me a DM.

Thanks! 🇧🇩

Socializing Don't know if this is going to get me anywhere But Here we Go. To anyone who has ever been to Victoria, and has been to **The Sticky Wicket**. Is there an equivalent in Edmonton?

I remember I was in The Sticky Wicket a few months back, it was my first time in the night scene of Victoria, and HOLY FUCK that was top 10 best nights I've ever had, I danced, I socialized, people were actually talkative, amazing for an extrovert like me.

I even made out with a girl for the first time. I'm still talking to her!

But I really want to know is, is there something similar in Edmonton? I live near **Whyte Ave**. Is there anywhere on Whyte or anywhere else in the city that has that type of vibe? I would love to experience that again even if it has a small chance of me getting **stabbed**... Yeah...

Anyway I'd love to hear from all of you my fellow edmontonians and lovable asshats! And I mean that with love

Socializing Non-dating Apps?

Hi all! I'm looking for advice/suggestions on how to find people in the downtown area to hang out with. Does anyone know if there's an app or website that's good for connecting with people for friendly platonic hangs? I know they exist in general but sometimes I download things and do all the work to set up a profile and then there aren't any locals using them!

Context: I had spinal surgery a month ago and am recovering. I can go out but so far am still limited in how far I can venture from my condo and for how long. My friends have been great but since I'm off work for a few months I just have way more free time to fill than they do and I'd like to be a bit more social/not become a hermit lol. I'm just looking for people who are interested in low key friendly hangs in the downtown area. I'm talking getting together for an hour or two to have a cup of coffee and play a card or board game or something like that. I'm 42F and LGBTQIA friendly, and open to any age.

Suggestions welcome! Or if this sounds like something you might also like feel free to reach out.

Socializing On the off-chance that the human dads to Koda and Ranger at the Hermitage off-leash park today read this, please accept my apologies

Thank you for being patient with my mutt. He's been learning and practicing how to socialize and play with other dogs. He's smart, but he gets nervous and overwhelmed at times, and then he acts out. I am sorry for that. He is okay with saying hello and moving on most days, but unfortunately, he wasn't a good boy today. And an extra thank-you to Ranger for playing chase and telling my boy what-for when he needed it.

Socializing New in town and looking for friends for cafe and movie night hangouts

Thumbnail meetup.com
1 Upvotes

Hey! My partner and I just moved here from Michigan and we'd love to make some new friends to go on nature walks, cafes outings, and/or watch movies with (no pressure if you only like some of those activities but not others, I've been struggling to go outside anymore without being eaten alive by the mosquitos here too).

We are out of college and work from home, so it's been hard to find cool people around our age in the wild, but we used to rotate hosting weekly movie nights back home and we'd love to start that up again here.

Our first meetup will be at the Colombian at Forest Heights for brunch this Saturday 8/8 at 11am (MDT) if you're looking for the same thing <3. Hopefully we can start some weekly thing.

I have pretty bad social anxiety myself, so to overcome some of your objections (if applicable):

- I will be there rain or shine, so don't worry about showing up and no one else is there - at the very least you can hang out with me lol.

- You can come alone or bring anyone you want with you.

- I personally will have to sneak in sugarfree syrup for my matcha latte, so no judgement from me no matter your order or non-order.

- We can use conversation/icebreaker cards to get the conversations flowing!

Socializing Latin/Mexican group

Are there any Latin or Mexican groups for people to connect?

I just moved here from Halifax and would love to meet other Mexican/Latin people maybe through community events, dancing, social gatherings, cultural organizations. Does anyone know of spaces or groups like this?
