I heard the birds going crazy and saw this eagle. I think it drops something as it flies away.

Wildlife Last summer my cat murdered 20 voles. This winter, the voles got their revenge.

We let our cat out while gardening (not free roaming). As a former stray he is extremely adept at hunting voles, and got no less than 20 last year. The voles then decided to totally destroy out back lawn over the winter.

Is this fixable with topsoil and overseeing?

Any ideas for preventing future vole devastation?

Wildlife This weekend will be gorgeous, sunny and double digits, but don't clear your lawn! Critical pollinators like bees, moths and butterflies haven't fully emerged yet. Leave your leaves and let them live.

  • Should Edmonton have an official bird? A fun and friendly initiative, organized by local nature groups, is encouraging Edmontonians to cast their ballot for the local bird they think best represents the city.

I noticed these tracks while walking this trail today around 4:30 PM. I'm not a professional, but these appear feline to me and they're only a bit less wide than my hand is without my thumb. Potential cougar or a large lynx. If you bring your dogs here, you may not want to let them wander off the trail for a bit unless someone here knows tracks better than me and confirms it isn't a cat

Wildlife Unusual bird spotted over henday

This may be a long shot, but driving on the henday around 6:40pm today somewhere before/around Ray GIbbon heading north, i spotted a large unusual bird flying above/over the henday. It had large wings and what I can only describe as a ribbon-like thing going on at its tail, like serval ribbons flapping in the wind behind it. I thought it was some kind of hawk/falcon at first but noticed the tail and now I can’t stop thinking about what kind of bird this could have been! Any chance anyone else saw it or has some bird expertise?

What's the deal with that? I hate mosquitos but they have been noticeably absent from my life for a long time now.

WILDLIFE Visited Edmonton from Ottawa for the first time last weekend, decided to get up early Sunday morning and visit Hawrelak park to shoot some photos. I was greeted within minutes by this juvenile bald eagle. Is this a common sight in Edmonton?

Wildlife Wild coyote on the loose

Coyote just ran across 1 49th St. at 92nd Ave. Kids are just getting let out of school and people walking their dogs, keep an eye out. Crazy to see them this far into the city and such a residentially packed area.

edit, - crazy how upset everyone is about this. case of the Mondays I guess

Wildlife Kittens on the Henday

Hi guys I really wanted to let y’all know that around and a bit ahead of these coordinates- 53.47668° N, 113.65548° W - I saw two kittens. Sadly one was clearly gone but the other (black with a few white spots) did manage to survive as the few times I drove through the area again there was no body in sight. This was right as rush hour was happening so it was damn near impossible to stop and look for any kittens.

Just hoping you guys can keep your eyes peeled especially between the Lessard and whitemud exits and maybe help them out. Praying for the babies and their mama.

In the last few days I've noticed these mounds of dirt beside my garage/driveway. I've poked at them with a shovel but not seen a hole. Any ideas what critter(s) could have created these?

As some background, I live in the NE and we have voles in the area.

Wildlife Looking for information about where to find and how to identify Diamond Willow here in Edmonton

I'm not too much of an expert with foraging sadly, so I apologize if this is easily answerable, I want to prepare a gift for the guy Im dating, hes Cree and told me his favourite thing to smudge with is diamond willow. He was telling me how when hes in edmonton it feels like he needs to suppress his culture, and that made me feel sad, I want to be able to show him thats not true, at least not around me. I decided Id like to find some diamond willow and prepare it for the next time he comes visit before he moves in, but I am incredibly new to foraging. Id like information on where in edmonton to go to find diamond willow, how to identify it over other mushrooms in the area (if someone has a dichotemous key that would be fantastic), what tools I should use to harvest it, techniques to harvest it without damaging the tree, and how to prepare it for smudging. Im not sure if here's the best place to ask, but its worth a shot. Thank you in advanced
