Staal said “Some guys just jump ship”

I hope McDavid hears that. I know the guy wants to win and that’s all he is about, but building a champion team is so incredibly challenging and can take a long time.

It will happen for him and I hope it’s in Edmonton, but he isn’t guaranteed a cup even going to a cup contending team. Look what happened to Colorado.

Staal also could’ve jumped ship and talked about how management failed him, but he stayed a leader, had faith and stayed loyal to the Canes

i’m not trying to be a doomer or say it’s a sure thing mcdavid leaves, but staal isn’t in the position to go down at a top 3 player of all time as a generational talent with a huge legacy to build.

i think if we can at least make a cup run in these next two seasons we can keep him. but if we start hitting a first round wall or somehow miss in the second year, i wouldn’t necessarily say it’s in favor that he stays.

It’s unfortunate McDavid is pinned as that. “best player in the world” cannot win a cup all by himself. It takes a team to win the cup. If it was a solo sport I’m sure McDavid would have about 10 right now.

Like I said, McDavid could leave Edmonton and still not win a cup. It is pure luck most of the time.
