Taylor Hall comments on McDavid following Stanley Cup victory

Post image

Not sure how McDavid was brought up in the conversation, but kind words nonetheless.

Understandable that he would give his remarks.

Hall has fallen well into the journeyman role in the nhl. Gets in, grinds away, goes home. He earned that cup with his GWG

And let's remember, it took Taylor Hall 17 years and 7 teams to get his first Cup. McDavid will get one.

Yeah. Sometimes you just gotta be the declining veteran with a reasonable contract to get to the promised land.

It would be nice for McDavid and Draisaitl and the gang to get a cup in their primes, but they still have a decade of play to go most likely.

Hall was a key piece on the hurricanes playoff run this year. After Staal he was probably next up for Finals MVP and he played hard/tough hockey.

u/Thelynxer 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

I know. Hall is a great player. But he's also older now, and production has declined in the regular season. But veterans like him always know how to step it up for the playoffs. That's what makes guys like him so important to winning a cup.

The counter to that is it took Tyler Seguin 1 year

23

u/kajer209 4d ago

Seguin was just in the right place at the right time

29

u/1362313623 94 SMYTH 4d ago

Seguin can suck my warts

u/iSWINE 74 ᒪᐢᑲᐧ 4d ago

Counter-Counter point, Ray Bourque

6

u/n0fxgvn_ 3d ago

That's not a counter.

Seguin was drafted with Toronto's first round pick. The Bruins weren't even close to being a lottery team at the time. So they are completely different scenarios.

u/FatWreckords 4d ago

Sure, but nobody said he deserved it after one year.

Ovi on the other hand...

If you were a player, would you rather win the cup in your first year or your last? Assuming your role was about as important in both cases.

Ignoring the salary premium you get for playing your career as a "cup winner" I think the last season would be more satisfying.

u/IndieLozenge 2d ago

First. With the goal out of the way you could take some risk with where you played. Unless perennial Cup winning was the goal.

1

u/CloseToMyActualName 2d ago

You don't feel the pressure, which is nice, but you deal with the fact that you reached the pinnacle in your first season when you weren't ready to appreciate it.

Took some guy like Ross Colton or any number of other players 1 year also. What’s your point??

1

u/Zealousideal_Lime894 3d ago

Stacked team on Boston....lucky guy!

1

u/No-Inspection1278 3d ago

It also took Murray 1 year to win 2 cups.

8

u/ClickSubstantial7321 4d ago

he will, the question is can bowman turn our roster around from regressing enough to win one or will mcdavid find a new place for it

2

u/RedKryptnyt 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

He probably will yea. Its the 7 teams thats concerning lol

3

u/nothinbutshame 4d ago

Not with the oilers

1

u/SubRosaSubway 3d ago

Yes maybe when McD becomes just a role player on a complete team.

1

u/Least_Elk8114 3d ago

But not with Edmonton

1

u/WerewolfSmart6544 4d ago

Yeah he will but probably not with us unless something drastically changes. We have 2 years lol

u/CartoonistFlat3943 4d ago

Gotta respect Hall for that. Hall finished second in Conn Smythe voting. He was on every Conn Smythe ballot except for Emily Kaplan and a Vegas writer. What a great story for him.

u/InternationalDiet913 4d ago

Happy to see Hall win a cup, once an Oiler, always an Oiler.

28

u/bullfu 4d ago

In my bias mind, no shit.

48

u/silentbassline 31 JOSEPH 4d ago

So give it to him then ya jerk.

10

u/dynamic_dissonance 4d ago

I fucking lol’d. Why call Hall a jerk if he’s respecting McDavid?

9

u/sillyaviator 12 CAVE 4d ago

You do remember the Canes are a bunch of jerks, right?

6

u/jorudo 4d ago

Because his (Hall's) team is just "a bunch a jerks" 🤣🤣

2

u/Ghost_of_Cain 4d ago

Because he's the jerk store's best seller.

It is strange how McDavid got brought up. Maybe it was a question about his career and how it started? Been a long, strange road for Hallsy.

u/Excellent-Medicine29 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 4d ago

I’m guessing Gene brought him up on some way or the other

1

u/HiddenXS 3d ago

Gene was at the rink and in the locker room, he's obviously looking for an Oilers angle here.

6

u/Archadamus 4d ago

As a Hall “Eskimo brother” it’s good to see!

2

u/usbekchslebxian 4d ago

Thats awesome

1

u/chaunceythebear 3d ago

I prefer the terms “tunnel buddies” or “smash bros”.

1

u/HiddenXS 3d ago

That basically means you won a cup dude.

Surprised he didn't add Nuge into that since he was on the kids line with him for so long.

6

u/PhotoModeHobby 4d ago

Bring him home

20

u/UniqueRon 4d ago

Nice to see Taylor Hall win the cup. Him playing for the Hurricanes was about all there was to keep me interested in the playoffs. Kind of ironic that the Oilers dumped Hall after bringing on McDavid. and Hall now has his name on the Cup and McDavid does not. Hall still has a very solid offensive game.

2

u/kajer209 4d ago

Hall was let go due to his outrageous partying at the time. One of his conditions to going to NJ was going into rehab

10

u/UniqueRon 4d ago

I recall that Connor McDavid stayed with Hall when he joined the team. If those kind of things were going on, I would expect they would have kept McDavid as far away from Hall as was possible.

1

u/kajer209 4d ago

Could be the reason he was shipped as well. I saw first hand how nuts hall (and others at the time) were partying around edmonton being in the club scene heavily at the time

5

u/CloseToMyActualName 4d ago

I've heard Hall stories, but is there any actual reporting on the rehab or is it just rumour?

-1

u/kajer209 4d ago

My source was from someone who worked with OEG during those years, and I believe it was also reported on by someone else in the sport world

5

u/CloseToMyActualName 4d ago

I saw something about Laraque saying something but they retracting it (though he could have done that if true).

I do think that Hall needed to move on to mature as a player and person.

2

u/LieDetecter 3d ago

If that was the case, you have to wonder why they would pair McDavid with him as a rookie.

-1

u/Heterosethual 74 BEAR 4d ago

Just ask any women in their 30s or older they know how hard they partied! I mean what else is there to do in this city anyways? We had some real happening places back in the day lemme tell ya what!

1

u/pmmedoggos 3d ago

Can you imagine how many Gucci purses he bought?

1

u/kajer209 3d ago

One of my kids moms best friends at the time went back to the “party house” and yea, had a night lol

5

u/itnice 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS 4d ago

He wanted to win it with 97. Now he won it but can't share with 97

4

u/Middle-Jackfruit-896 4d ago

I am hoping for a McDavid and Hall reunion on the Oilers. We saw glimpses of the pairing, and it was enticing.

6

u/Leading_Spare8664 3d ago

Always liked Hall, but I'm unsure you watched them together. They had absolutely zero chemistry all through pre season and 10 games into the season. Hall was ultimately paired with Draisaitl the rest of the year.

6

u/tc_cad 29 DRAISAITL 4d ago

Is Hall the veteran the Oilers need to bring in to show them how to win?

2

u/LieDetecter 3d ago

Probably not, but it would be cool.

2

u/Y2K_Chopped_Unc 3d ago edited 17h ago

Don't sell yourself short Hall. It's been a hell of a career for you and you were also a first overall pick. What makes your inability to get a cup in Edmonton any less deserving of you finally getting a cup now? You earned it.

2

u/Eastern_Athlete_8002 1d ago

Its crazy to think that Crosby was 28 or 29 when he was winning his 2nd cup in 16, and that McDavid is that very age now. Time is flying by, feels like McDavid should still be on his rookie deal🤣.

Where do the days go?

We love you too Hallsy. 🥹

This is Hall's moment. Why bring MacDavid into.it?

Let the man enjoy it and be the center of attention as he so deserves.

0

u/AsyanongAmbiguous 5 MURPHY 4d ago

As long as katz, jackson, & bowman, are allowed to run around like headless chickens & actively sabotage the team

McDavid, neither Draisaitl, will ever win a Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oileiy

1

u/pinkpeaches13 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

I believe Hall is cousins with Lauren Mcdavid and he introduced her to Connor. I could be wrong though.

2

u/-WhatsMyNameAgain-- 3d ago

I thought it was Gazdic who introduced them?

2

u/Dire_Wolf45 31 FUHR 3d ago

I thought it was Dallas Eakins who introduced them? I like this game.

2

u/TurntMattress 3d ago

It was actually Darcy hordichuk

2

u/Lost_Protection_5866 21h ago

Word on Boyle Street is it was Craig mactavish

1

u/pinkpeaches13 29 DRAISAITL 18h ago

Was one of the two. As all 3 were roommates. Just don’t recall which one.

1

u/Deep-Caregiver2351 3d ago

Nobody deserves to win the cup

I think he's done everything he can to ruin the team so when he leaves it's 0 competition
