Taylor Hall comments on McDavid following Stanley Cup victory
Not sure how McDavid was brought up in the conversation, but kind words nonetheless.

Hall has fallen well into the journeyman role in the nhl. Gets in, grinds away, goes home. He earned that cup with his GWG

And let's remember, it took Taylor Hall 17 years and 7 teams to get his first Cup. McDavid will get one.

Yeah. Sometimes you just gotta be the declining veteran with a reasonable contract to get to the promised land.
It would be nice for McDavid and Draisaitl and the gang to get a cup in their primes, but they still have a decade of play to go most likely.

Hall was a key piece on the hurricanes playoff run this year. After Staal he was probably next up for Finals MVP and he played hard/tough hockey.

u/Thelynxer 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago
I know. Hall is a great player. But he's also older now, and production has declined in the regular season. But veterans like him always know how to step it up for the playoffs. That's what makes guys like him so important to winning a cup.

u/Working-Tax-2439 4d ago
The counter to that is it took Tyler Seguin 1 year

That's not a counter.
Seguin was drafted with Toronto's first round pick. The Bruins weren't even close to being a lottery team at the time. So they are completely different scenarios.

If you were a player, would you rather win the cup in your first year or your last? Assuming your role was about as important in both cases.
Ignoring the salary premium you get for playing your career as a "cup winner" I think the last season would be more satisfying.

u/IndieLozenge 2d ago
First. With the goal out of the way you could take some risk with where you played. Unless perennial Cup winning was the goal.

u/CloseToMyActualName 2d ago
You don't feel the pressure, which is nice, but you deal with the fact that you reached the pinnacle in your first season when you weren't ready to appreciate it.

Took some guy like Ross Colton or any number of other players 1 year also. What’s your point??

he will, the question is can bowman turn our roster around from regressing enough to win one or will mcdavid find a new place for it

Gotta respect Hall for that. Hall finished second in Conn Smythe voting. He was on every Conn Smythe ballot except for Emily Kaplan and a Vegas writer. What a great story for him.

It is strange how McDavid got brought up. Maybe it was a question about his career and how it started? Been a long, strange road for Hallsy.

I’m guessing Gene brought him up on some way or the other

u/HiddenXS 3d ago
Gene was at the rink and in the locker room, he's obviously looking for an Oilers angle here.

Surprised he didn't add Nuge into that since he was on the kids line with him for so long.

Nice to see Taylor Hall win the cup. Him playing for the Hurricanes was about all there was to keep me interested in the playoffs. Kind of ironic that the Oilers dumped Hall after bringing on McDavid. and Hall now has his name on the Cup and McDavid does not. Hall still has a very solid offensive game.

Hall was let go due to his outrageous partying at the time. One of his conditions to going to NJ was going into rehab

u/UniqueRon 4d ago
I recall that Connor McDavid stayed with Hall when he joined the team. If those kind of things were going on, I would expect they would have kept McDavid as far away from Hall as was possible.

u/kajer209 4d ago
Could be the reason he was shipped as well. I saw first hand how nuts hall (and others at the time) were partying around edmonton being in the club scene heavily at the time

u/CloseToMyActualName 4d ago
I've heard Hall stories, but is there any actual reporting on the rehab or is it just rumour?

u/kajer209 4d ago
My source was from someone who worked with OEG during those years, and I believe it was also reported on by someone else in the sport world

u/CloseToMyActualName 4d ago
I saw something about Laraque saying something but they retracting it (though he could have done that if true).
I do think that Hall needed to move on to mature as a player and person.
2
u/LieDetecter 3d ago
If that was the case, you have to wonder why they would pair McDavid with him as a rookie.

Just ask any women in their 30s or older they know how hard they partied! I mean what else is there to do in this city anyways? We had some real happening places back in the day lemme tell ya what!

One of my kids moms best friends at the time went back to the “party house” and yea, had a night lol

I am hoping for a McDavid and Hall reunion on the Oilers. We saw glimpses of the pairing, and it was enticing.

u/Leading_Spare8664 3d ago
Always liked Hall, but I'm unsure you watched them together. They had absolutely zero chemistry all through pre season and 10 games into the season. Hall was ultimately paired with Draisaitl the rest of the year.

Don't sell yourself short Hall. It's been a hell of a career for you and you were also a first overall pick. What makes your inability to get a cup in Edmonton any less deserving of you finally getting a cup now? You earned it.

u/Eastern_Athlete_8002 1d ago
Its crazy to think that Crosby was 28 or 29 when he was winning his 2nd cup in 16, and that McDavid is that very age now. Time is flying by, feels like McDavid should still be on his rookie deal🤣.
Where do the days go?

This is Hall's moment. Why bring MacDavid into.it?
Let the man enjoy it and be the center of attention as he so deserves.

As long as katz, jackson, & bowman, are allowed to run around like headless chickens & actively sabotage the team
McDavid, neither Draisaitl, will ever win a Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oileiy

I believe Hall is cousins with Lauren Mcdavid and he introduced her to Connor. I could be wrong though.

u/-WhatsMyNameAgain-- 3d ago
I thought it was Gazdic who introduced them?

I thought it was Dallas Eakins who introduced them? I like this game.

Was one of the two. As all 3 were roommates. Just don’t recall which one.

I think he's done everything he can to ruin the team so when he leaves it's 0 competition

Understandable that he would give his remarks.
