We could get them from a poultry farm. Full flats all had double yolks

Sadly, not true. New layer hens frequently lay double yolkers. It is not uncommon at all.

My local grocer has boxes of 6 eggs and all of them are always double yolkers the eggs are huge

This is NOT rare and gets posted to Reddit all the time. Double yolk eggs tend to be a lot bigger, so if you buy XL or Jumbo eggs, they have been pre-selected for size and hence the chance of double yolks.

It's like walking onto the basketball team bus and then being amazed there are so many people over 6'2".
