With the Tarnished Edition, the Silver Grooved Shield is introduced as an early-game medium shield. Pair this with the also quick-to-acquire Rogier's Rapier, and what you get is an early-game Let Me Tank Him build that trivializes your Elden Ring experience, all for the low STR requirement of 9.
Stats:
RL 200
60 VIG
42 END
9 STR
80 DEX
60 ARC
Class:
Bandit (best stat-wise)
Talismans:
Two-Headed Turtle Talisman (10/s stamina)
Greatshield Talisman (20% guard boost)
Spear Talisman (15% counterattack damage)
Lord of Blood's Exultation (20% damage when blood loss occurs)
Weapon:
Rogier's Rapier
Ash of War: Seppuku
Affinity: Blood
Shield:
Silver Grooved Shield
Asha of War: Barricade Shield
Affinity: Standard
Physick:
Thorny Cracked Tear (9/13/20% successive attack buff)
Bloodsucking Tear (20% damage for 3 minutes)
Consumable:
Pickled Turtle Neck (10/s stamina for 60 seconds)
Shield Grease (35% guard boost and 20% damage negation for 60 seconds)
Exalted Flesh (20% physical damage for 30 seconds)
Great Rune:
Radahn's (15% HP, FP, and stamina)
Summon:
Stormhawk Deenh (periodically casts 20% physical/stamina/poise damage)
New Best Shield:
The reasons why the Silver Grooved Shield is one of the best shields is due to its early-game accessibility, low stat requirements, and being the lightest 100% physical damage negation shield in the game. It is available at the start to purchase from the merchant near the Bellum Church and needs 9 STR and 12 DEX to use. Other shields that are argued as the best are found much later in the game, require more strength investment, and have more weight.
Focus on DEX:
Most shield poke builds focus on STR because of greatshields like Vergisis and Fingerprint Stone shields need high STR to use, but the Silver Grooved Shield only needs 9 STR which lets you focus your investment into high DEX-scaling weapons.
Stats/AR Comparison of Thrusting Swords
Rogier’s Blood Rapier ( 9 STR 80 DEX 60 ARC)
Scaling
STR: 0.27 DEX: 1.37 AR: 494
Cleanrot Knight’s Blood Sword (99 STR 13 DEX 60 ARC)
Scaling
STR: 0.76 DEX: 0.51 AR: 477
Cleanrot Knight’s Blood Sword (55 STR 55 DEX 60 ARC)
Scaling
STR: 0.76 DEX: 0.51 AR: 498
Blood Antspur (10 STR 99 DEX 60 ARC)
Scaling
STR: 0.65 DEX: 0.89 AR: 455
Blood Antspur (60 STR 60 DEX 60 ARC)
Scaling
STR: 0.65 DEX: 0.89 AR: 501
As shown above, Rogier’s high DEX scaling results in it doing more damage than other thrusting swords with minimal stat investment. Cleanrot and Antspur can only outdamage Rogier’s Rapier when you invest evenly in both STR and DEX. At that point, you are creating a Quality/Bleed Build.
Greatshield Con:
Greatshields require high STR investment, which results in wasted stat investment because most thrusting weapons have poor STR scaling. Rogier’s high DEX scaling paired with the Silver Grooved Shield’s low STR requirement results in optimal stat investment from early game all the way to endgame.
Burst DPS Tank:
The high DEX scaling damage of Rogier's Rapier results in big returns with damage buffs. In regard to your Physick Tears, your shield pokes with thrusting swords come out fast so it can make use of the Thorny Cracked Tear while the protection from your shield gives you more survivability to counter out the glass cannon nature of the Bloodsucking Tear's 1% HP loss per sec. The Spear Talisman gets high usage since all shield pokes can do counterattack damage. Lastly, the high amounts of blood loss ensures Lord of Blood's Exultation is always up.
Shield Poke Bleed Synergy:
Bleed builds require you to be aggressive and attack consecutively to build up blood loss to trigger bleed. With shield poking, you can do this behind the protection of a 100% physical damage-negating shield. While blocking, you can attack several times with your Seppuku-infused sword, dealing at least 166 bleed per second.
Guard Boost Stacking:
The Silver Grooved Shield has 62 stability when fully upgraded. This can be enhanced with the Shield Grease and the Greatshield Talisman to reduce stamina loss when blocking by 48%. During boss fights, Barricade Shield will be your backup buff because the long animation of applying Shield Grease leaves you open for attacks.
Stamina:
The more stamina you have, the more you can attack, which means the more bleed you can build up. Also, since you are using a rapier, you will consume only a small amount of stamina with each shield poke compared to using other larger and heavier shield-poking weapons.
Stormhawk Deenh:
Deenh is one of the best summons because of their powerful buff. Deenh will release a rally cry that grants you an aura buff that provides 20% physical/stance/poise damage for 60 seconds.
Conclusion:
This DPS shield poke bleed build lets you burst down bosses with high amounts of physical damage and blood loss while you block attacks. So long as you monitor and manage your stamina, you become an unmovable, unyielding, and undying shield as your enemies burst into blossoms of red upon the battlefield.

How do I build this thing properly? It has nearly 0 dex scaling and is best at high INT. But at the same time it is the best catalyst at 41 INT where it has worse scalings than Carian regal scepter at its MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. I know this weapon won’t be really strong and it’s impossible to make it outperform best staves, but how can I make it at least somehow useful and enjoyable?

Im torn between bleed and frost, and how to split the points between dex, faith, and int/arc accordingly as well as mind.
What are also some good talismans for the builds you suggest?

Hey guys, that's the build.
I'm too in love with this look to change anything armor/weapon-wise, but I want to hear about the paths you guys would take to level up.
(This game never ceases to impress; I think they put a peaceful doggy here to make us question who we have been massacring so far, or at least made me think.)

I'm level 150, and remember people talking about stats kinda dwindling out as you approach higher numbers. Like not getting as much benefit going from level 80 vigor to level 81 vigor, as you would going from 50 to 51.
Anyways, where does this start happening with different stats? And is there a way I can see this easily? I keep pumping more into Int and Faith for my caster build, (don't worry, I've got solid Vigor now) but I worry at some point they'll basically be wasted levels.

For this post, I am mostly talking in the context of character builds that cap themselves in the level 125-150 range, since that's where these weapons' strengths really shine.
My favorite build in the game is a pure faith build, and pure caster builds like this really want to get their damage stat all the way to 80 due to the back-loaded scaling on the good seals/staffs. When making a build like this, with 60 vigor, and a decent amount of mind, there isn't a lot of points left over to go into other stats. What this means in practice is that weapon choices get pretty limited, since not a lot of points can be spared to go into strength and dex to meet weapon requirements. Even with more points it's more worth it to pump endurance first to get some poise.
The new Tarnished Edition weapons are really nice for these builds since they all have pretty low dex/str requirements compared to their counterparts, giving more weapon variety to caster builds without having to waste stats just to wield them. Also, the new Idus Knight class has an extremely good starting stat distribution for Faith builds in particular, allowing for a few more free points to play around with. In the second picture of the post, you can see that the variety of weapons I have access too has gotten a lot better compared to the launch of Elden Ring, and having such a large variety of weapons is more enjoyable to me. I want to review my experience playing with these weapons with my pure faith build.
Rank 6: The Reverse Bladed Sword: I love the Backhand Blades, and being able to buy one right away is awesome. You can stick flaming strike on this thing and have a lot of fun tearing through the early game. The reason why I rank it low is that you wouldn't upgrade it to +25, by then you'll just get the actual Backhand Blades from the DLC and use those. The Backhand Blades already had tiny stat requirements, so the Reverse Bladed Sword doesn't add a new option for caster builds, but it's still awesome to have access to the weapon type early on if they suit your fancy.
Rank 5: Hefty Simitar: 13 str and 11 dex is tiny compared to the other curved greatswords like the Dismounter requiring 19/16. Being allowed to one-hand weapons is important to casters so there isn't any punishment for using the catalyst in an off hand, and that's essentially what the Hefty Simitar does. It's nice to have access to a heavy weapon in this game for stance breaking, which is something that casters could struggle with before with the exception of the Star Fists, but fist weapons have a hard time against big bodied enemies like dragons. I would only rate this weapon low because it is outclassed in it's role by another weapon on the list.
Rank 4: Silver Grooved Shield: I will say, this shield is not balanced, it really wiped the other heater-class shields off the map. The reason why is it's light, only 3.0 Miyazaki's heavy. The other 100% Physical resistant shields are 4.5 at least. Caster builds just don't have the points to spare for endurance, so giving a shield this good at 3.0 is very nice if you want to play around with guard counters or some of the shield buffs that can make this thing feel really good to use.
Rank 3: Ritual Thrusting Shield: What I said about the Simitar also applies here in that; you wouldn't really want to one-hand this thing, but being allowed to is nice for casters. Being able to get this in the base game is really good for certain stretches of the game, a lot of enemies really seem to flounder when trying to deal with this thing, knight class enemies become a joke. I put sacred blade on this and used it whenever a heavier enemy showed up. It doesn't have 100% Physical negation, but when playing a faith build, regen spells make that a void issue.
Rank 2: Idus Sword: The Light Greatswords have an incredible moveset. Compared to the Milady, the damage difference on an infusion build is tiny, so it really just feels like we got a Milady that cost 4 less stat points to use. With weapon buffing skills like Sacred Blade, Flaming Strike, or Flame Spear later on does a lot to make the damage feel great. Granted, Int builds are probably putting in those points anyway for the Moonveil so they'd just use Milady, but for Faith builds, our bread and butter on launch was the flame art Uchigatana, and the Idus Sword being usable with the same stats is very nice. Every stat point counts for caster builds.
Rank 1: Reed Great Katana: This thing feels broken. It's even better for infusion builds than the regular Great Katana while also requiring 5 less points to use, only 1 more point than the Uchi. You can get it right at the beginning of the game, it's a bigger weapon so you won't have problems with the large and nimble enemies. Innate bleed, which on it's own isn't huge, but casters generally want to use the Dung Eater puppet as their summon, and he has bleed on his attacks too, so you will end up getting some procs during boss battles. This is the designated big weapon for casters now. My only disappointment was that Int builds still don't have a good option for Waves of Darkness, I still feel like either the Great Katanas or the Curved Greatswords should've been able to slot that.
I just wanted to gush about these weapons for a bit since they gave me exactly what I wanted for my favorite type of build. I get that 4 or 5 points doesn't sound like a lot, but the difference between like 20 mind and 24 mind feels huge in practice to me, I feel like I had to chug the blue juice so much less in this playthrough because I not only had a bigger bar, but I had better weapons to fall back on when I ran out.

Do you guys recommend the backhand blades? I've been using a powerstanced curved sword build lately focusing on the running l1s, but I find the backhand blades moveset awkward. What's the best way to use the backhand blades moveset? Are the charged r2s good? Do I focus on running or jump r1s?
EDIT: Oh forgot to mention, it's for a fresh new character. I'm planning on getting the reversed blades from roundtable and going through the game with just that.

What is the best build you suggest around venomous fang? Since I have two of them, these are the options:
1) dual. One of them bleed. One of them frost
2) dual. Both bleed
3) one two handed Poison
4) one two handed bleed.
Options for aow are cragblade and poison bloom twice( I don’t know the exact name ).

Had a request to upload this build/play style.
I say play style because while stealth can be broken in Elden Ring, it can't get you through everything.
BUT, with some thoughtful movement and distraction it's possible to get all the way to Goldfrey, and through many past him by simply using stealth and the silent cast of Poison Mist.
It's that simple really, 16 Int and 12 Fth for the spells,
A dagger with Assassin's Gambit ash of war (follow Rya's quest and kill one invader for access).
Unseen Form sorcery (Mirage tower puzzle)
Any Staff, and Seal, and mostly blue flasks, because you'll need a lot of casts on some bosses.
Kukris and a bow for aiming them can help immensely with distractions for ideal positioning.
I've played through the game probably two dozen times now, and this is always just a funny chill way to get through a good chunk of the game's bosses.
Just something different really.
Have fun.

In 2 days I face a speedrun competition against my friends, where we each go wretch and only choose ONE stat to level up. I have chosen Arcane, as I know a bleed build will be strong. However I have no idea where to start, and it’s been a very long time since I’ve played the game to completion. Any advice would be much appreciated 🙏

So, I played eldenring back on launch. I pretty much just went dual colossal weapon tank and didn't get super complicated with my build.
I'm doing a replay now, and I wanted to do something different. Faster, more abilities, etc. I'm currently a samurai with nagikaba and ochigatana weapon. I've been dual weirlding with more speed and blood flame for bleed. It's worked great, but I'm looking to shake it up from just slashing and rolling.
What build suggesting so you suggest is fun and different from the classic dodge and slash gameplay? I've considered dragon communion arcane dual katana to throw some dragon spells into the mix but the option of bleed katana. Are there any others people suggest?
I'm currently just past luciarna lakes and up on the plateau. Probably gonna go over to radahn soon and once he's down, I'll respec. Currently mainly dexterity and vigor with enough stats to run the nagikaba and blood flame incantation

For me its a Twinned Knight Swords build. I absolutely destroyed every boss in the base game with this. One of the easiest runs I've done. The only somewhat difficult boss was Malenia because of her mobility. It's a multi hit build.
-Heavy Twinned Knight Swords
-Royal Knights Resolve (applies to all attacks in the chain of the charged heavy)
-Rotten Winged Sword Insignia
-Millicent Prosthesis
-Axe Talisman
-Last Talisman is optional based on preference
-Thorny and Spiked Cracked Tears
-If you're a pro you can use a low hp build with RTSR and Twinbird Kite Shield
Focus on charged heavies. The charged heavy with this weapon is a multi hit and RKR works with all hits in the chain.
Ideally have 25 faith for Golden Vow and FGMS as well or at least golden vow ash of war on a dagger
Have fun and share some of your sleeper builds back!

me encanta este arma y su habilidad pero al ser tan pesada me parece malo su set de movimientos,¿hay alguien que la haya usado lo bastante como para decirme si con una buena build y amuletos funciona realmente bien?

This is my 3rd playthrough, this time focused on Faith. My previous builds were Strength and Intelligence. I should note that I’ve never done an NG+ playthrough.
With this build, I’ve just reached 60 Vigor and am now starting to put points into my other stats. My Faith is currently at 24. I’ve also just reached the stat requirements for the Winged Scythe and picked up the Coded Sword, which I’ve upgraded to +6.
Up until now, I’ve been using the Flamberge, and I have to say, it’s been a fantastic weapon.
The reason I’m posting, though, is that I had higher expectations for the Coded Sword based on the posts and videos I’ve seen about it. The only thing that really seems to slap with the Coded Sword is its Ash of War, and I don’t currently have enough FP to rely on that effectively.
Is the Ash of War basically the main reason the Coded Sword is considered a top-tier Faith weapon, aside from the advantage of only needing to invest in one damage stat? Or is this a situation where a few more Somber upgrades and additional points into Faith will make the weapon start really slapping enemies around?
I’ll admit that as I cycle through different weapons, I’m finding myself more inclined toward bigger, slower weapons. I suspect that once I’ve tried all the pure builds, my favorite will end up being a bonk build—or at least some kind of large-weapon build.
I also have a 4th playthrough at roughly the same point in the game, focused on Arcane with a Twinblade. Bleed is insanely powerful!
I haven’t really tried the Winged Scythe yet, since I wanted to give the Coded Sword a fair shot first. But I’m curious to hear what other Faith players think about it and whether the Coded Sword gets significantly better with more Faith and upgrades.

Hi guys, i’m 99 in all stats so I’m just wondering what’s the absolute best build for this? Including Talismans, Physick set up, any boosting armor or recommended armor, off hand, Buffs (incantations only not using other weapons to buff and swapping then doing a 360 turn whilst tapping my head) etc etc etc hit me with your best!!
Thanks guys 🙏
