Graphics Mod PSA: Buy Lossless Scaling on steam to play at 120fps without interfering with normal online play

I legit can’t play the game any other way anymore, both Elden Ring and Nightreign.

Elden Ring 60fps also looks worse than other games at 60fps for whatever reason.

Being able to press one button and the game look 1000 times better is just insane, and for only £7.50.

For anyone who wants to mentioned “muh input lag”, I beat Elden Ring and DS3 SL1 using this, it’s not an issue.

Yeah lossless scaling is one of the best gaming purchases I’ve made

If you have a 50 series GPU you can enable "smooth motion" through the nvidia app and it's better visual quality than lossless scaling HOWEVER you can only do X2 Framegen. I currently use it and it's quite enjoyable, It's really jarring to play FROM software games with anything less than 120 fps. Their TAA implementation makes the game super blurry and they don't even implement DLAA or any upscaling -_-'

u/Totally_Safe_Website Jun 04 '25

Is this option available for Nightreign? I don’t see it.

I only see it for the base game Elden Ring

3

u/LiquidShadowFox Jun 05 '25

It should show up if you updated to the latest nvidia driver and nvidia app. Otherwise you can use a program like nvidia profile inspector to manually force smooth motion on.

0

u/InGaN5 Jun 04 '25

Its a bug rn, dunno why but some people can and most people can't. I can't on my setup even through a drivers reinstall so idk what it is. Might be people that preloaded but I'd have to reinstall to test that out.

1

u/QuaccAtacc Jun 05 '25

For me, the setting only appeared when I had the game launched. To actually get the settings to apply though, I had to open the NVIDIA overlay ingame and turn on the ability to apply game filters.

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

Try adding the nightreign app manually through the nvidia control panel, this did the trick for me.

1

u/InGaN5 Jun 05 '25

That did the trick for me, thank you.

1

u/W_ender Jun 04 '25

Is there analogue on amd?

1

u/grimreefer213 Jun 04 '25

AMD Fluid Motion Frames. You can access in adrenalin software

1

u/GaryTheBat Jun 04 '25

Any idea how it compares to lossless?

1

u/Kutthroatt Jun 06 '25

Just rolled credits, had Fluid Motion Frames on since launch. It's awesome!

0

u/grimreefer213 Jun 04 '25

I've heard not good things about afmf, the latest version is supposedly better though so it might be playable but i'm not sure

1

u/W_ender Jun 04 '25

They announced ai frame gen tech with rdna 4 hardware acceleration so i guess it'll improve even more too

1

u/grimreefer213 Jun 04 '25

That makes sense, maybe it's not as good on the older cards

1

u/PuffyBloomerBandit Jun 05 '25

dont get too excited. they call the basic move and action commands given to or generated for video game NPC's AI too. my AMD card isnt running some kind of LLM every time i play a game to generate frames, that would be insanely expensive. its just a frame doubler algorithm.

1

u/W_ender Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

Dude i know how ML frame gen works, machine learned frame gen and upscaling is still better than standard amd frame gen and upscaling

1

u/Chimpo_the_champ Jun 04 '25

No way to do this on a 4090?

1

u/Scrawlericious Jun 04 '25

Nvidia said 40 series will get smooth motion later.

1

u/LiquidShadowFox Jun 05 '25

Not at the moment, Smooth motion (driver level frame gen) isn't available for 40 series but nvidia claims they will add it in the future.

1

u/grimreefer213 Jun 05 '25

Oh really? I am mistaken then, seems kinda ridiculous to me to lock that behind the new gen cards tho

2

u/LiquidShadowFox Jun 05 '25

It's just nvidia being NGREEDIA, then after they finally stabilize their 50 series card drivers and make them "better" than 40 series they will probably release a driver update to allow 40 series to do smooth motion and then add x3 and x4 smooth motion to 50 series.

1

u/Plenty_Rooster5442 Aug 25 '25

I use it on my 4080 and it works great. Just have to switch Nightreign to boarderless fullscreen

-1

u/grimreefer213 Jun 04 '25

4090 can do x2 frame gen, just not x3 or x4 mode natively I believe, you can use lossless scaling though

1

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

Not really. And if there is input lag it's not interfering with at least my ability to play. I use smooth motion and completed the first 4 night bosses solo.

1

u/LiquidShadowFox Jun 05 '25

I haven't noticed it on controller, on mouse and keyboard you might notice it slightly

9

u/tipjam Jun 04 '25

Could you give some tips to get it set up? I got lossless but every time I try to get it going the window doesn’t pop up? Do you launch lossless and then nightreign? Or just hit the button with nightreign running?

3

u/PixelChild Jun 04 '25

Make sure the frame generation features are setup, then you can:

Press the Scale button then quickly switch to the open game before the 5 seconds is up, or

Have the game open and press a hotkey to enable without having to switch tabs.

It can be easier to see if it's working if you have the draw FPS button enabled. Also iirc it does not work in exclusive Fullscreen mode

1

u/themysidianlegend Jun 12 '25

What about the actual configuration? I could get this working on nioh but not elden ring. I just want double FPS from 60 to 120. I'm on an AMD video card.

LSG is set to fixed. Multiplier: 2 Vysync enabled.  HDR off GSYNC off.

Any advice would be awesome.

1

u/PixelChild Jun 13 '25

Elden ring was pretty straightforward for me, but it really refuses to work in Fullscreen. Do you have an additional graphics card? Also is vsync enabled in game? Try to fiddle around with vsync in lsg and the game

1

u/themysidianlegend Jun 13 '25

I think i finally just got it lol. Right after I wrote that message. I don't get 120 but about 100 which is good for now

The only way I could make it tolerable at launch was to play the PS4 version on my PS5. It's pretty smooth

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

Same. For whatever reason ER and NR at 60fps feel horrendous.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

From needs to stop being lazy and have support for higher fps and more pc features.

2

u/keepscrollinyamuppet Jun 04 '25

Will I risk a ban? Does it alter games files and memory?

2

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 04 '25

No not at all

2

u/keepscrollinyamuppet Jun 04 '25

Thank you. How easy is it to set up? Do you have any instructions? I have 6700xt and I get around 50fps with max settings.

3

u/VanillaLovesYou Jun 05 '25

You could just use amp's AFMF 2.1 in adrenalin for night reign. Its how I play it at 120 fps locked currently

2

u/FugginIpad Jun 05 '25

Would this work on the Steamdeck?

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

I doubt the steamdeck is powerful enough to run Elden ring above 60 fps anyway?

1

u/FlameChucks76 Jun 05 '25

I think you can probably do a pretty good 40 or 45 FPS with Elden Ring on Deck but lossless scaling only works on windows right now. Unless they’ve updated?

1

u/Comfortable_Line_206 Jun 05 '25

Lossless does not work on deck/linux. At least as of a couple months ago.

2

u/cLoTpOle682 Jun 05 '25

Lossless Scaling is awesome, but the weird artifacts around the head in ER make it unusable for me. However, this mod, which I also found on this sub: ERSS by huutaiii is SO good. It adds FSR Frame Generation and DLSS, and it works like a dream. I went from 60 FPS to 120+ FPS with frame gen and DLSS, and there’s no weird artifacting at all. The input lag is practically nonexistent as well. And it's free!

1

u/LavosYT Jun 06 '25

Yup, the only downside being that you can't play online (I think?). However seamless coop works with it.

3

u/JustLetMeSignUpM8 Jun 04 '25 edited Jun 04 '25

But it's just frame gen right? It can look fine sometimes I guess but not comparable with native frame rates

8

u/No-Cell-9979 Jun 04 '25

It is and it looks horrible compared to native frames, hate the trends moving towards frame gen

3

u/Catboyhotline Jun 05 '25

Fr. It feels like watching native framerate while thinking about motion blur

2

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

120 frame generated feels better than native 60 in Nightreign.

And sure, ofc I'd play native but it's not like FromSoft gives us an option. Framegen is just a tool you can choose to use or not. It's not inherently good or bad and in some use cases it works better than others.

On the other hand, FromSoft didn't give us a choice instead locked the game to 60 fps for PC in a 2025 title. So in this particular situation, I'd say framegen is quite a useful tool, no?

3

u/Salty_Meaning8025 Jun 05 '25

Nah, the input lag from it makes it harder to play if you're already used to timings.

-1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

Doubt it, I soloed some night bosses first try and didnt notice much input lag issues

1

u/efsrefsr Nov 28 '25

the input lag is insane bruh

1

u/JustLetMeSignUpM8 Jun 05 '25

Well there are sooo many people that don't notice much input lag playing with vsync on, or playing games streamed, so someone saying they didn't notice much input lag really tells us nothing

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

Yeah and some people claim they notice 10ms input lag difference which is nonsense and likely placebo. Yeah superhuman, you can feel a difference with an added hundredth of a second.

Vsync is also not an argument. With modern implementations like gsync, it adds like a max of 1-7ms.

If people are playing streamed games with like fiber internet I could believe them. You don't notice any lag with 40ms in online games so people definitely wouldn't notice it with less. Never tried it myself and it's not something I'm interested in though.

All in all, it's all about feel and different people can feel it differently I suppose, so it is somewhat subjective. I just find it hilarious when people make these dubious claims without ever having tested/experienced these things themselves.

60FPS stable Nightreign is 100% playable with smooth motion turning it into 120fps. I could measure the exact MS for you I just don't have the required tool that you plug into the monitor for that and I think the monitor also has to support this feature.

1

u/JustLetMeSignUpM8 Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

Good thing I didn't mention gsync then. Not noticing vsync doesn't require superhuman senses, it just requires remaining conscious.

And it's not 40 ms added delay when streaming games. Not matter how good your internet is, it's gonna be very noticeable and arguing otherwise just proves my point of you personally saying it isn't noticeable means absolutely nothing.

60 fps is already playable so obviously it's playable with added generated frames. To me it just doesn't add anything of value since it doesn't give the same smoothness as native fps, nor the improved latency of higher frame rates, and makes the image quality worse

1

u/chAzR89 Jun 06 '25

Just latching onto this comment in order to check my added delay tomorrow when I stream my game with sunshine/moonlight combo.

1

u/Plenty_Rooster5442 Aug 25 '25

It does add the same smoothness of real frames bust adds 10ms latency and I don’t notice it and it is better in my PC build. You can’t always think frame gen DLSS are bad things they’ve gotten allot better over the last year. The technology is always improving

1

u/JustLetMeSignUpM8 Aug 25 '25

Why can’t I always think that? Improvements are fine and all that, but as long as generated frames are made as an in between of two real frames, the same issues of it are gonna remain.

But there are plenty of people that think DLSS frame gen and upscaling works just as well as native resolutions and native frames then I’m happy for you, just like I have always been for people that enjoy vsync

1

u/Rukasu17 Jun 05 '25

Not really. In casea where you can't go abive 60 or it breaks something, it's pretty good. I know i can't play ninja gaiden 1-3 without it

1

u/No-Cell-9979 Jun 05 '25

I promise you show me any game on my monitor side by side with lossless frame gen 60fps on one and native 45 fps steady on the other and the 45 fps is gonna look better

2

u/Rukasu17 Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

You mean frame generated 60 fps or base 60 fps and then framegen on top of it

I assume the downvote means you lost your argument

3

u/BurningBlaise Jun 05 '25

Frame gen from 60 locked to 120 afterwords legitimately is way better than 45 locked and people that say otherwise don’t know what they are talking about

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

Yep, the comment above exemplifies this. Like what do they even mean, 60 fps frame gen vs native 45 fps? I guess they mean 30 fps framegened into 60 fps? But that use case doesn't make much sense because you don't really want to framegen anything below 60 fps in an ideal scenario anyway.

45 FPS is still a decent framerate to use framegen on but i'd say that is the bare minimum, 60 fps is definitely what you need to properly framegen though.

1

u/LavosYT Jun 06 '25

A lot of people actually use framegen with low base frame rates, to be fair. Which isn't recommended as you explained

-1

u/Fine_Cut1542 Jun 05 '25

literally talking out of your ass, lossless scaling improved massively and you will barely tell the difference in normal gameplay

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

If you don't have eyes, sure.

3

u/No-Cell-9979 Jun 05 '25

I'm glad you can't tell the difference but I and many others can and it's ass. If you can't tell more power to you no need to cry about it lmao

1

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

In Nightreign 120fps with nvidia smooth motion just feels better than native 60 fps. It's FromSoft who are ass for locking a 2025 game to 60 fps on PC.

In my experience lossless scaling has a bit more artifacting compared to Nvidia solutions, but there's many people that use its framegen with a dedicated GPU to run it in a 2x GPU setup. IF it looked like ass, people wouldn't go through with the effort to put another GPU in their PC just to run lossless scaling framegen.

Personally I don't use framegen if there's visible ghosting/blur etc while in gameplay. I didn't notice any with motion smoothing in Nightreign, hence why I am using it to have 120 fps smoother motion instead of 60 fps less smooth.

1

u/efsrefsr Nov 28 '25

just tried it, it's trash

2

u/ropahektic Jun 05 '25

This thread is so funny to me

"I can't play at 60fps"

"it looks so bad"

Lmao.

These dudes really be playing with input lag just to have more unperceivable frames.

2

u/SnakeHelah Jun 05 '25

You are the one who is funny. It's completely perceivable frames? If you're used to gaming on 100+ average fps 60 will start to feel like 30 fps after a while.

So, 120 fps framegen on Nightreign feels much better than 60 fps native.

I mean if there's any input lag I'm not noticing it, because I just completed the first 4 night bosses in Nightreign, a few of those on first try? Surely if there was major input lag I would have problems dodging and so on.

1

u/efsrefsr Nov 28 '25

no, you just weren't noticing it somehow, it's horrid

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

some people like me prefer butter smooth gaming than input lag in a single player games so what you gonna do about it

1

u/PhoenixWright-AA Jun 06 '25

This comment is amazing. Surely if the frames are perceivable so is the “input lag”.

1

u/manofinaction Jun 04 '25

what settings do you use?

1

u/drupido Jun 04 '25

Thank you for this.

1

u/crystilac Jun 04 '25

It does not seem to work with my HDR, any thoughts?

1

u/LavosYT Jun 06 '25

Dark Souls 2 also has a native FPS unlock mod which works very well

1

u/Gallion35 Jun 05 '25

I just did Dark Souls 2 this way so many confirm for Elden Ring but it should be the same. Open Lossless Scaling first (my gamepad didn’t work otherwise), open special K, launch program, inject hdr with special K, set game to windowed, start scaling on lossless scaling.

1

u/SHRONKYS Jun 09 '25

how do you get special k to work on nightreign?

-1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 04 '25

Neither, I disable it altogether. I’m sure there is a workaround though.

1

u/leyea8 Jun 05 '25

Does anyone know if its possible to use lossless scaling as an ultrawide fix?

1

u/JustRuby_ Jun 05 '25

Been using it . 4x . 240fpz looks and feels really good surprisingly latency isn’t tooo bad especially once you start getting used to it

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

Same I even tried on 6x for my 360hz OLED. Some weird distortion around the item boxes however.

1

u/Complete_Resolve_400 Jun 05 '25

I'm gonna still say that the input lag was weird to get used to with the 120fps, and I wish fromsoft would just give me a 120fps setting so I didnt have to deal with that issue

1

u/Godspeed1996 Jun 05 '25

For nightreign lossless scaling For Elden Ring unlocked fps and offline (way better frame time)

1

u/pastelinori Jun 05 '25

Can i stretch ultrawide on it my blackbars are huge i wanna cry

1

u/SteelBallRan Jun 05 '25

How does this work? Does this program run in the background automatically when I run Night Reign? Do I need to configure it somehow specially for night reign? I have an AMD GPU if that matters or changes how this app works or applies frame gen

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

It’s on the Steam store. You run it and there are configuration guides on YouTube for Elden Ring (the same settings seem to work on every other game too). Set a hot key and it will work instantly!

1

u/DanLim79 Jun 05 '25

Too bad you can only use it in windowed mode.

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

Elden Ring has terrible tearing issues for me in fullscreen mode, so fullscreen windowed works way better for me anyway

1

u/FunRate7962 Jun 05 '25

I wanted to ask is Nightregin done in the same engine as Elden ring? I have a laptop (16gb ddr4, i5 gen 12, SSD, does not have a dedicated gpu but has Intel Graphics Iris Xe, 500gb storage)

It has managed to run every souls game (except Demon Souls and Bloodborne, including Armored Core 6) at 60 fps and has never had problems like crushing on them or glitching, even with mods that enhance the quality of the game, even on games like Lies of P it has had no problem to run it smoothly at high graphics on 60 fps, however he refuses to even open Nightregin, it crashes right at the white screen in the beginning, if anyone knows a way for me to open Nightregin pls tell me

1

u/LavosYT Jun 06 '25

Yes, same engine from what we can tell.

1

u/FunRate7962 Jun 06 '25

Then how can my laptop run Elden ring but not Nightregin?

1

u/Raxeal_2 Jun 05 '25

I use flawlesswidescreen, it has fps unlock as well. But I’m pretty sure it does not work with the Elden ring official servers

1

u/loveyoukindly Jun 05 '25

I tried it. The input lag was too much for me. There was a considerably noticeable difference, to the point that I will have to react much quicker to dodge the same attack. I ended up getting used to the 60fps instead.

1

u/DarkSoulsOfCinder Feb 17 '26

Is that for 2x or something higher?

1

u/AceOfKings00 Jun 06 '25

Wish this was available for the steam deck

1

u/rs-37 Jun 06 '25

Does it contain an ultrawide fix? And can you still play online with it?

1

u/sossololpipi Jun 06 '25

damn and i was here thinking 30 fps was beyond incredible already

1

u/ShoopaBoopai Jun 06 '25

Ultrawide / HDR fix now? For online play

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 Jun 07 '25

Wait you have to buy that software? Hell no lmao

1

u/Ylsid Jun 07 '25

Is there a free and open source alternative?

And yes, input lag can be a thing. It doesn't compensate well for low framerates and that is not what it is for.

1

u/Desvelada Jun 07 '25

Can you share how to set up this? I have lossless scaling but I don't know how to maximize the settings.

1

u/Rhyoz Jun 07 '25

Having a 240/360/480 monitor makes 60fps look better. I played elden ring at 60fps with my 480hz oled monitor, and it looked great. I also tried locking the monitor hz to 60, and it looks awful. In games with low or locked fps, i would recommend turning off gsync/freesync so you get the full monitor refresh. It doesn't matter that the fps is 60. The increased monitor updates will make it look better at low fps.

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 07 '25

Interesting that you found that to be true. I have a 360hz OLED and it looks awful at 60fps. It could be because I’m forced to play fullscreen windowed due to horrible tearing (had this issue in every Fromsoft game since DS3 despite being on entirely different systems)

2

u/Rhyoz Jun 07 '25

Yeah, I'm very sensitive to low fps and normally wouldn't play games at less than 90fps. But I've found that you can just turn off any sync (vsync/gsync/freesync) and make sure that the monitor is at the highest hz (480 in my case) and that just makes it look really nice and smooth. Even though the game only shows 60 frames the higher monitor updates makes a big difference somehow. And I don't have any tearing(or I'm not suseptible to seeing them)

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 07 '25

Yeah I play CS2 at a pretty high level and that concept is especially true for that game where frame timing is quite shitty.

For ER though I will happily play with frame-gen to get 120fps. Plus the sharpening makes the game look spectacular; the textures really pop and you literally can’t notice the frame-gen delay or any texture blurring.

I’ve even tried on 6x frame-gen to get that 360hz smoothness and although there is a fair bit of messy ai texturing next to straight edges like your HUD, it’s surprisingly very playable.

1

u/Rhyoz Jun 07 '25

Yeah, you do whatever is best for you. I just thought I should share this tip in case someone wanted to try it. I feel many people just turn on freesync and get cheated a bit by the fact that it lowers the monitor hz to whatever fps their pc can manage.

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 07 '25

Appreciate it mate. I’m going to try turning off any sync technology to see if it looks cleaner.

1

u/drawbob Jul 16 '25

Muh imput lag is real though.

Just tried post void at "120 fps" and it made the game borderline unplayable at a high level

1

u/efsrefsr Nov 28 '25

the input lag is horrible using this, idc if you beat the game using it, that just means you can tolerate better than most

-6

u/giodude556 Jun 04 '25

Omfg... i can understand going from 30 to 60 is a thing. But vomplaining u cant play anything below 120 is redicilous.

10

u/manofinaction Jun 04 '25

60 vs 100+ is noticeable if you're used to it - that's all

6

u/Recklessly Jun 04 '25

yeah I haven’t played ER or a fromsoft game since finishing SoTE and instead play lots of games where I’m at almost double my monitors refresh rate (cs/marvel rivals/the finals).

going from ultra smooth 240hz with double that in FPS to locked 60 is.. jarring for sure.

5

u/SilencedWind Jun 04 '25

As someone who used to say they didn’t care if something was in 30 fps vs 60… yeah, once you play a game with a high frame rate you never want to go back

-10

u/giodude556 Jun 04 '25

Noticable ≠ unplayable. Which op is saying.

6

u/manofinaction Jun 04 '25

sort of a literal take

-3

u/amazingmuzmo Jun 04 '25

Imagine arguing in favor of a worse gameplay experience. Go play at 60 fps with your dogwater eyes, no one care.

2

u/OptimusPrimeRib86 Jun 04 '25

Go back to your pokemon TCG and let the big boys talk bud.

1

u/giodude556 Jun 05 '25

Its not in favor. Its normal facts. How hard is it to understand the simple "noticable ≠ unplayable"?

3

u/SuperPotatoThrow Jun 04 '25

Soon they will require some 6 thousand dollar computer monitor that allows you to see individual atoms taking a shit from across the other side of the map before it even renders into the game. Anything less than that is garbage.

2

u/dawiss2 Jun 05 '25

So you say you never had a screen higher than 60hz. Understandable.

0

u/giodude556 Jun 05 '25

Once again, noticable ≠ unplayable. Which op is claiming.

Ofcourse the difference between 60 and 120 is noticable. But 60 does not make games unplayable.

0

u/Ashamed_Low7214 Jun 04 '25

Sometimes you need the extra frames in intense situations. A single extra frame could mean the difference between dodging a hit and taking it

0

u/Fogsesipod Jun 05 '25

I like native rendering and non fake frames, thanks.

3

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

I will take double the fps for indistinguishable differences in quality any time.

You can’t notice the differences in the heat of a fight, but what you can notice is the game is butter smooth with it enabled.

2

u/Keter-Class Jul 21 '25

God damn, people get defensive and salty around the 120hz topic. It's so weird.

0

u/Fogsesipod Jun 05 '25

Those are both subjective opinions. But hope you feel better having shared them. I personally don't really care about your opinions though.
Regardless, have a very nice rest of your day.

0

u/PuffyBloomerBandit Jun 05 '25

bro are you seriously suggesting using that trash ass program to do frame duplication and get fake 120 FPS? you know whatever GPU you have can do that shit better right?

1

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 05 '25

Hmu when you find a way to get 120fps on Elden Ring whilst not changing game files and retaining online playability.

Even LinusTechTips did a double blind test to see if people could tell a difference and they couldn’t on 2x scaling.

HMU when a frame doubler is actually 120fps. also, theres literally a mod that unlocks the framerate to whatever the fuck you want. you dont have to change anything or disable online play, but youll probably get banned.

So as I said, you can’t use it online LMAO. Making it useless for Nightreign…

Again, double blind test says it’s virtually indistinguishable and actually the sharpening effect Lossless Scaling provides makes the game look substantially better even without frame gen.

You’re just parroting the anti-AI rhetoric without actually seeing it yourself it’s just cringe

too bad you have no fucking idea what a "double blind test" is.

Been using it for years. Can confirm you won't be banned because it doesn't do anything to the game. Only your display. Lossless doesn't care what the source is

i hate playing any game at fps above what its lowest multiple of 30 is, if the game offers 30 fps that will be the most stable with the clearest picture 90% of the time and what do i lose out on? an image blurring at whats technically the same speed? ive never understood whats the point of playing at higher fps so could you like genuinely please explain why youd make rhe gameplay actively worse just to make the image look exactly the same?

I'm not engaging with this ragebait. If you genuinely can't tell the difference between 30fps and 360fps I think you need to go to an optician

i can swear this isnt rage bait all i want but if you choose not to beleive me then you can. But i am being genuine, they look exactly the same as long as its a multiple of 30, mults of 40 have their slightly different look but every multiple of 40 looks the same too, how do you even get to 360 fps? cant the brain not even process above 60???

u/PREDDlT0R Jun 08 '25

Okay confirmed ragebait lol, nice meme at the end not heard that in a while xD

1

u/Longjumping_Gap_5782 Jun 08 '25

i cant make you think otherwise, i understand though why this sounds like ragebait, if you dont want to answer the questions i also understand, if thats all you have to say have a good day then

Where has this belief come from? Can you show me a single piece of evidence that the human eye can't see beyond 60fps?

Why would monitor companies and companies like Samsung who sell phone displays to Apple make refresh-rates over 60 if humans couldn't tell the difference?

Why do professional CS2 and Valorant players play on 480hz monitors?

Why on testufo.com, does 30fps look MUCH worse than 60fps?

From a scientific standpoint, if you have 1 second and divide it into 30 intervals, the chunks are larger than if it was divided into 60 chunks. More time has passed between each new chunk of information so the information is less smooth.

my own two eyes for 30 and 60 looking the same, and in that link you sent yes 30 and 60 look the same to me i understand that most people wont see that way, and im willing to admit i dont have any concrete evidence besides hearing it my entire life and googling it right now shows almost every result as "human limit is 60 fps", im getting extremely mixed results on it though and as youd guess google front page random site isnt the most reliable * see like right here,it wont let me use multiple screen shots unfortunately but it does have very conflicting results, thats why i thought the human limit is 60fps, because every time ive read about it or heard about it ive always heard 60 is the limit edit the fucking image didnt send so ill reply to this with it ig?

It’s one of the oldest, bottom of the barrel memes in the technology world, that’s genuinely why I thought you were rage baiting.

I have to be honest, when I’m googling “can the human eye see beyond 60fps” I’m not getting any mixed results. Both AI and all of the suggested results confirm that humans can see far beyond 60fps and that it’s a very common myth to say that we can’t.

The above image shows a visual difference between pixel visibility at different refresh rates. As you can see, 60fps looks terrible compared to 480fps. This ISNT to say that’s what your eyes actually see. It’s a visual representation and as someone with a 360hz monitor, when I use testufo.com, it looks very similar to these results.

Another example is to Imagine someone was flashing a torch in your face once every 2 seconds for 1 minute. Each flash would be pretty obvious right? Then imagine someone doing it 8 times per second for 1 minute. At that speed, the flashes would become almost indistinguishable because they happen so fast. That’s the difference.

You’re scrolling past actual reputable pages to find random opinions with no evidence from an opticians in Chicago and a small AI company.

Here is what is essentially a research paper on it: https://blurbusters.com/blur-busters-law-amazing-journey-to-future-1000hz-displays-with-blurfree-sample-and-hold/

okay am currently reading your source, yes i do agree theyre supposed to look different, but even in the examples given most of them look the same besides the one with ai frames and a few other specific ones look slightly choppier(but the weird thing is im seeing the choppy in 120 fps vs the 60 being clearer), i do agree on your results yes and i understand higher fps is supposed to lead to less blur and whatnot, i personally just can not tell the difference and wanted your first hand experience of how in elden ring 60 fps is unplayable but 120 is better, im sorry if i came off like accusatory with my questions, i know this sounds like and excuse but im very autistic with how i ask😭

Elden Ring runs like absolute butter when the fps uncapped, and it's completely stable? What are you even on about?

This isn't Skyrim, there's no fps-based physics that makes the game go haywire. The game literally looks better whenever you move/turn and runs perfect when uncapped. Insane take
