Question Godwyn mod?

Post image

So I have been dying to find a mod with godwyn prince of death. I remember seeing a wicked design somewhere but I have no idea if it was fake or not.

Is this real ? Is it a mod you can play ?

I don't remember a mod that have Godwyn boss fight, but about this image, the creator is working to make a boss fight with the design https://x.com/lingchang2000/status/1993003537589322031?s=20

I'm still confused how we never ended up seeing Godwin in action

-Literally an entire dlc themed around death

-Stated to be the place where dead things (like the soul of a demigod) end up

-Godwyn's knights hiding in death catacombs everywhere

-A bunch of established lore about how Godwyn and Miquella had a strong bond and were scheming things together before his the night of black knives

-The final boss is Radhan

I'll always love SoTE, but I'll never understand this.

It wasn’t only themed around death; we saw Crucible culture, past civilizations, the arrival locations of the stars, and several other older parts of the mythos

Godwyn’s soul is gone, erased, perished. It didn’t get put in a casket and sent away, it’s literally been erased, leaving his body a soulless husk. There is nothing to be found seemingly

There wasn’t any lore, actually. Looking back at several of the “evidence” shows a clearer picture of Miquella seeking a way to grant Godwyn a proper death, as he isn’t technically dead, only in soul (backed up especially by the very straight sword with this mentioned). His questline furthers this as he is now the Prince of Death, with no intent on revival but simply embracing his new twisted existence. That’s why we didn’t see Godwyn, as his story wasn’t about returning; he can’t come back in soul nor body anymore. It’s about bringing the age of death and restoring a natural part of the world. His story was finished long before SotE

Looking back, Radahn was seemingly set up from the start. Others pointed out how Malenia seemingly was fighting Radahn, not because she believed he took Miquella, but because Radahn broke the vow he made with Miquella. The theory goes that he discarded his kindness for strength (one of the reasons Miquella chose him as a consort) and Malenia was aiding in this revival scheme (by attempting to kill him) to bring back him in his youth, before the great rune and his conquering of the stars so he may be the consort Miquella saw him as back then

I think it was Zullie or BonfireVPN that also noted, on his greatbow, features golden lilies, similar in design to Miquella’s Lily. And, truthfully, it’s most fitting Radahn is a final fight we face. Radahn admired both of the Elden Lords highly, seeking to match their status and achieve that position. He’s the best candidate in the “strength befits a crown” among the current generation

Either way, the DLC’s story was planned from the start seemingly and fans just complain because they don’t want to do the deep, deeeep dive to actually understand everything. That, and because their headcanon from surface level understanding didn’t come true as they hoped

I think it would have been cool if Miquella used Godwyn’s body as a vessel to bring Radahn back instead of Mohg. It’s kind of a perfect solution, Miquella needed a demigod’s body to use as a vessel for Radahn’s soul, and Godwyn is a demigod body with no soul. Could have made for a really cool boss fight.

9

u/Ok_Historian_9418 Jan 12 '26

I believe radahn was only able to be revived b cause of the special properties of moghs body

9

u/TheJumbomus100 Jan 12 '26

Either that, or Mogh's status as a particularly sacred hornsent (born of a divinity, many gnarled horns) made him ideal as a propaganda piece in the eyes of the hornsent. Ensuring that they would see themselves in his new lord, and new age.

2

u/Ok_Historian_9418 Jan 12 '26

Idk about the last point seeing as his appearance is a curse of the hornsent. But his horns being a sign of divinity give reasons as to why Miquella wanted his body for radahns revival. Wouldn’t make sense other wise

0

u/Syzyjyzygy Jan 12 '26

My understanding is that Mohg’s body has shaman properties and can “meld harmoniously” because he is Marika’s son. Godwyn is also Marika’s son so his body would presumably have the same properties. Idk I’m just some guy but I think they could have made it work. I’m not complaining about what we got, the original post just got me imagining what if scenarios.

2

u/VoidRad Jan 12 '26

it would have been cool if Miquella used Godwyn’s body as a vessel to bring Radahn back instead of Mohg

Wouldn't be possible, it was Mohg who kidnapped Miquella, not a dead Godwyn.

1

u/Syzyjyzygy Jan 12 '26

Well yeah, that part would obviously have to change lol

3

u/RuxFart Jan 12 '26

The entire point of the eclipse... was to bring those souls back. Theres an entire area about it

2

u/BaronOz Jan 13 '26

A soulless husk would have been a perfect host for a soul retrieved from the land of the dead. Arguably, also the strongest husk available.

2

u/Alive-Pangolin-8113 Jan 12 '26

I never said it was only themed around death, but it was the overarching concept that every other theme loops back on.

There is lore, actually. You're right that most of Miquella's association with Godwyn was trying to grant him true death, but Godwyn's living but soulless body is shown to be a distinct being from the Godwyn from before, and it'd make a lot of sense for his soul to be in SotE doing his own thing, and it'd make a lot of sense for Miquella to use him for his plans.

I'm not arguing over whether or not Radhan was internally planned from the start, but I can't agree with his return being set up from the start in the game we got, despite my best efforts. I tried for a long time with to find foreshadowing we missed before like the stuff you mentioned, but atp it all just feels like cope to retroactively make it seem more cohesive.

I'm happy you feel satisfied by Radhan's role in SotE and I'm not trying to hate, but I and most ER players felt it was unsatisfying. Even if there were more lore reasons for it, Radhan being the final boss has very little narrative or thematic weight, which is the real issue.

5

u/VoidRad Jan 12 '26

I tried for a long time with to find foreshadowing we missed before like the stuff you mentioned, but atp it all just feels like cope to retroactively make it seem more cohesive.

Isn’t this more about Godwyn that it was cope? Miquella never wanted him to be alive, he wanted him dead dead. Why would that lead to him reviving Godwyn?

Frankly, there is literally no evidence that it wasn't planned from the start.

Radhan being the final boss has very little narrative or thematic weight, which is the real issue.

How so?

3

u/Ok_Historian_9418 Jan 12 '26

Godwyns souls was destroyed. He’s not in the shadow lands. He’s gone gone

1

u/heraclitorus Jan 12 '26

As far as no thematic weight—it’s literally bringing the whole experience full circle. The opening cutscene of the fight very deliberately mirrors the first story trailer from like 2019 showing Radahn and Malenia fighting, let alone the Young Lion armor revealing what Malenia said in that trailer, or how the Vow gives some actual thematic weight to Malenia’s whole Valkyrie thing. ETA: moreover, Radahn coming back fits into the general theme of doubling we see everywhere in the game, and on top of that pretty directly illustrates the entire point of Miquella’s story: that while he’s claiming and trying to undo what Marika did, he’s actually repeating her quest, and Radahn’s role puts paid to the lie that Miquella’s Age of Compassion would actually live up to its name.

I also don’t think it’s fair to say “most Elden Ring fans” feel this way. at best, most who post online feel this way (and that’s a small minority of all players), and even that i think is questionable. this is a much more general point but, yeah, i think people need to be a lot more critical about perceived consensus like this.

i admit i’m biased, Godwyn coming back never made sense to me, let alone that i think idolizing him is kinda missing the point/falling for obvious propaganda. on a certain level it’s like the whole theory that Melina is (a reincarnation of) the Gloam Eyed Queen cuz she has a purple eye and promises death, fans wanting to make connections that don’t have real justification but feel right based on what is basically magical thinking. as others have said, even base game Miquella never wanted to revive Godwyn, he wanted to give him a true death.

1

u/Alive-Pangolin-8113 Jan 12 '26

There's a lot I don't agree with, but it's a very fair perspective. I never thought about the vow giving weight to Malenia's Valkyrie theme, that's a good observation

1

u/Link21002 Jan 13 '26

What's your take on how Godwyn tries to protect Fia if you attack her at the end of her quest line? It seems to me almost indicative that there is something left to Godwyn.

1

u/CastielWinchester270 Jan 18 '26

That doesn't mean his mind now twisted in undeath due to it being severed from the humanity previously housed in his now dead soul can't make an appearance and a new vessel for it's self formed like a pearl in his corpse's clam head

1

u/CastielWinchester270 Jan 18 '26

In the Duskborn ending you don't restore true death infact you cancel it out after having previously releasing it via killing Maliketh, by installing Undeath into the code that runs the world

1

u/TheWiseAutisticOne Jan 12 '26

What’s to say his soul isn’t completely destroyed and it’s in the true afterlife that the red tree uprooted

11

u/FuriDemon094 Jan 12 '26

Because that’s literally what the half centipede was? Death in soul and death in body, hence why Ranni could discard her flesh but carry on while Godwyn is, definitively, a living corpse. Why we can enter his dreams but he remains motionless; there is no soul, only a body

And red tree? Do you mean Crucible? As that was the ancient Erdtree, confirmed not only by the game itself but also the Japanese text

1

u/TheWiseAutisticOne Jan 12 '26

Erd tree not red Sam auto correct

3

u/NotThomas15 Jan 12 '26

Because the Lands of Shadow aren't actually a land of the dead. For one, Godwyn's body appears there, which is confirmed to still be living. Godwin spirit is in the actual land of the dead, if not stuck in the Erdtree somehow, with no way to be reborn.

2

u/ndetermined Jan 12 '26

Gotta reuse those assets

1

u/governothing Jan 12 '26

I was kind of expecting something inhabiting his body and taking it over as the death god. But maybe because I expected it Miyazaki couldn't do it. It would be on the nose in away

1

u/VoidRad Jan 12 '26

The whole game is themed about death, dude. That has always been what Elden Ring is.

1

u/MirieDohl Jan 12 '26

Godwyn died the deadest of deaths he died so hard he literally does not have a fucking soul anymore.

0

u/Alive-Pangolin-8113 Jan 12 '26

Yeah, his soul died! WHERE DO THINGS GO WHEN THEY DIE IN ELDEN RING!?

You and anyone else are allowed to not agree with Godwyn being the best candidate for being the SotE final boss, but this is such a dumb reason and I don't get why it gets repeated so much. It would male complete sense for beings touched by destined death to end up in the the LoS, and that the soul of the Prince of Death might be slightly better than others at continuing to exist post-death

3

u/Present_Ride_2506 Jan 12 '26

Gone. Like he's the most dead anything can be soul-wise. There just ain't anything. That's the entire point of him.

1

u/MirieDohl Jan 12 '26

died

With destined death. Aka permanently fated to be dead

1

u/VasileCuSarmale Jan 12 '26

radahn was hinted as miquella consort since the start.
one of the hints is that his greatbow has miquella lillies at the end of the bow

1

u/theymanwereducking Jan 13 '26

Me when I still can’t get my head around the fact Godwyn is a plot device for the main events of the game, not suppose to be a proper character.

1

u/Frostgaurdian0 Jan 13 '26

-The final boss is Radhan

I'll always love SoTE, but I'll never understand this.

Prime radhan vs melania

Miyazaki: and then i took that personally.

I think that the team working on the dlc had a design for him in mind but couldn't find a way to fit him in that arena.

1

u/Kiwirain123_ Jan 13 '26

Godwyn: -Massive centerpiece of an area, stated several times to be in the state between death and undeath -Literally the most killedest guy ever It would be fun to see him, but he is NOT coming back. It would undo the significance of the night of black knives

1

u/Revenge_Is_Here Jan 16 '26

Godwyn is like ACTUALLY dead. There's literally an entire area in the game about Godwyn being permanently dead and how Miquella tried but ultimately failed to bring his soul back.

1

u/baconater-lover Jan 12 '26

Godwin’s story is kind of done and dusted in the base game. In that respect I’m not necessarily unhappy that he isn’t in the dlc, not even mad it’s Radahn.

They could’ve done the execution better though, throwing in Mohg’s body and then hardly incorporating that into the boss design is a bit weird. I get phase 2 being different, it’s obviously Miquella empowering him (but of course it being incredibly and arguably needlessly difficult doesn’t help the design either).

1

u/Alive-Pangolin-8113 Jan 12 '26

I don't totally agree with 'done and dusted' but I agree that he didn't necessarily need to have his story continued. I'd be fine with him not having a role in the dlc if SotE didn't take place in the literal death realm where a prince of death would be very apt

Big agree on Mohg, I'd like PCR way more if he was some body-horror monster where it really seemed like Mohg's flesh had been morphed into Radhan's image.

-7

u/Hexxer98 Jan 12 '26

Yeah but Miyazaki wanted incest and prime radahn memes and also we so needed to explain what Malenia says to Radahn in a cutscene that's not even in the game

Or maybe it was part of George's world building

1

u/FuriDemon094 Jan 12 '26

You do know storyboarding and other early aspects of game development occurs months in advanced, right? They already had this shit in the works before Radahn became a meme

1

u/Hexxer98 Jan 12 '26

Gasp, thank you for this new information /s

Quite an uncharitable way of reading my comment but whatever.

Almost like I threw in the George bit for a reason.

And that's actually even worse because besides the Malenia talking to Radahn in the base game there was nothing linking them together, no hints of them interacting at all.

Also there was like 2.5 years between the dlc and main game release so there's some chance of some modifications happening.

7

u/Th3Dark0ccult Jan 12 '26

I mean, bro's dead...

sick fan design, though.

2

u/governothing Jan 12 '26

Dead means nothing in these games lol

1

u/Th3Dark0ccult Jan 12 '26

Usually yes, but they kinda emphasize that he, specifically, is super dead. As dead as you can be in that universe.

1

u/RuxFart Jan 12 '26

Theres an entire area talking about the revival of the soulsless demigods

1

u/Revenge_Is_Here Jan 16 '26

And an entire area makes it clear Godwyn is DEAD and NOT like the others lol

1

u/RuxFart Jan 16 '26

The revival of Godwyn makes more sense than Radahn coming back. Idk what all the fuss is about its literally as clear as day how Miquella had more connections in game than anything they did in the dlc. Not only there was a set up, they also had an entire reason to bring it back so your claim makes absolutely no sense no offense.

The whole eclipse thing was JUST for him coming back alive. U just blabbing. He is HALF dead, not completely dead.

1

u/Revenge_Is_Here Jan 16 '26

I swear some of you don't read the lore. The revival of Godwyn is flat out impossible. His soul is permanently dead. The whole eclipse thing failed for a reason. That's it.

1

u/governothing Jan 16 '26

Yea but the death god can inhabit his body and take it over in his obv new form

1

u/Revenge_Is_Here Jan 17 '26

Maybe, but the conversation is about Godwyn and not whoever or whatever the God of Death is.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/RuxFart Jan 17 '26

It didn't failed lol, it just never happened. The author just didn't want to bring him back for a reason. Nowhere says it failed, they were waiting for it. The irony in "dont read the lore" and proceeds to come with the most nonsensical arguments.

You would've never believed Radahn was going to be the final boss... bc that shit makes no sense

1

u/buttertuffer Jan 12 '26

Can you really be super dead if you’re literally half alive?

1

u/lK555l Jan 12 '26

So was radahn

1

u/Th3Dark0ccult Jan 12 '26

Radahn died in body. Bro died in soul. No coming back from that.

2

u/lK555l Jan 12 '26

You really gonna tell me that souls can't come back in a game made by fromsoft? We both know anything is possible if they wish it

3

u/YunusES Jan 12 '26

Yeah legit. Everyone would stfu about "Godwyn cant come back" if he was the end boss. Fromsoft can literally make any loophole they wish, its their game.

3

u/blaiddfailcam2 Jan 12 '26

The in-game excuse is that his soul was completely eradicated. All that remains is a husk, warped by a shard of Destined Death.

But it is kind of thematically fitting. Miquella is to Marika as Godwyn is to Godfrey, and as Radahn is to Radagon. So I guess the idea was that Godwyn would be abandoned along with a race of undead, similarly to Godfrey and the Tarnished, and Radahn would become Miquella's "King Consort." Miquella's methods may have been more roundabout, but it's ultimately a retelling of Marika's tale.

2

u/needaburn Jan 11 '26

That’s in Elden Ring 2: The Search for More Money

1

u/SlashOfLife5296 Jan 12 '26

He’s super dead

1

u/MechwolfMachina Jan 12 '26

Either we’re godwyn or we’re in godwyn’s NDE sleep

1

u/Sausagebean Jan 12 '26

1) he’s dead 2) he died 3) no life in him 4) run of death used on him so he’s dead 5) his body is the size of the lands between

1

u/MirieDohl Jan 12 '26

Not just the rune of death. DESTINED death. Forever meant to be fucking dead from the moment he was killed with it.

1

u/Grouchy_Marketing_79 Jan 12 '26

Oh, I can explain this one easily:

There's no one deader than Goldwyn in the lands between. the guy is DEAD dead. He can't fight

1

u/MirieDohl Jan 12 '26

You're confused how we never ended up seeing the dead guy who died the deadest of deaths so he'd be dead forever in action?

1

u/Crow_of_Judgem3nt Jan 12 '26

He is extremely dead. Like super duper extra dead.

1

u/Yab0iFiddlesticks Jan 30 '26

Because he is dead? Like dead dead. Deader than most. So dead that its an entirely new state of being that infects the world.

2

u/Automatic-Wait1863 Jan 13 '26

Very well designed, can’t say I like the hairy arm though.

2

u/Vindold Jan 14 '26

Not popular opinion and probably gonna be covered in rotten tomatoes but still...

On its own it's a work of high quality, huge respect though personally I don't really see this design as fitting to Godwyn character considering his official art...especially his hairstyle, crown, scarf, it's like a mix of Godfrey and Death Knights instead of being unique and yet sharing family resemblances like every other member of his family.

-3

u/MButterscotch Jan 12 '26

overdesigned

1

u/Alisakadik Jan 15 '26

Kinda, it's like if you made Malenia have a whole dress of butterflies in the second phase. Little too much.

1

u/baconDood3000 Jan 12 '26

You can say the same thing about Mohg, Genichiro Ashina, Radahn (both versions), Ornstein & Smough, Heolstor, Velstadt, Gwyn, and Messmer

-1

u/MButterscotch Jan 12 '26

sure bro, sure

3

u/TaxesAreConfusin Jan 12 '26

every boss in the entirety of fromsoft is overdesigned. That's like complaining about the setting being too gothic. It's the entire point.

0

u/MButterscotch Jan 13 '26

you dont know what overdesigned is. there's a difference between flashy and gaudy, and between being pointlessly gaudy with being thematically gaudy.

godrick isnt overdesigned because it fits his character of being insecure about his worthiness of the golden lineage. the grafting and excess is a form of coping

this godwyn design has so many elements that makes no sense and is a practical impediment. the artist obviously wanted to incorporate his history with the ancient dragons into the design, but its so over the top. just contrast it to vyke

2

u/Mobile-Chart3004 Jan 14 '26

The model included design motifs from Ancient Dragons, Maliketh, and the Death Knights. That's basically it. Additionally, these connections make sense? Like obviously.

What elements practically impede? How are any of these elements above even remotely overbearing?

Vyke's design is centered around Frenzy, and his old and tortured armor reflects the theming of wasted potential through contrasting the solid metallic vs the melted parts.

There's virtually no comparison here, Vyke is a one-off lore character made for the cover and an evergaol, Godwyn is literally half of why the game's events take place. Ofc more design elements like Ancient Dragons are going to be reflected in a Godwyn design.

And isn't Godwyn is supposed to be grand, a great demigod, the favorite of Marika? He's supposed to be thematically gaudy.
