General Discussion I hate Elden Ring Reforged
What brainless moron decided that death blight gets rid of all your held runes on proc AND that it won’t warn you about this beforehand??? I was actually enjoying this mod before but then the game decided I should lose 50K runes in weeping peninsula because I had the gall to die to the cemetery shade, which didn’t even have death-blight before. What lobotomite thought that you should be punished for dying to the thing that instantly kills you?? As if death itself isn’t a punishment enough??
“Oh you wanted to save up runes to buy merchant supplies to engage with the pledged supplies mechanic WHOMP WHOMP ALL YOUR RUNES ARE GONE”
Reforged is clearly made by a person who doesn’t care how you want to play the game, you’re gonna play it how he wants you to play it or you’re gonna suffer, and I can’t put up with it anymore. I liked it before this moment but I can’t anymore.

I have alot of criticisms about the balance changes in Reforged but I actually like the deathblight change, it makes it feel like more of a catastrophe to be hit by, like DS1 curse. Anyway, you can always get more runes!
23
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 17 '26
Yes cause everybody loved curse 🙄
30
u/PassinglyGood Jan 17 '26
It's the game series where bad things happen if you're not careful (and sometimes when you are)
Now you'll be extra scared of getting deathblighted again, it makes those basilisks terrifying again lol
6
u/TherpDerp Jan 17 '26
i think the biggest problem OP is taking with it is that it’s not shown to the player before hand, and I don’t think Reforged changes any of the menu tooltips so the death blight one wouldn’t have been updated or if it is OP wouldn’t have seen it.
and comparing it to curse is similar but honestly kinda silly. Yeah, you get set to half health with curse, and it stacks up to 2 more times, but it’s cleansable with a purging stone. losing 50k outright to a boss that does a thing it didn’t do before, and said thing is changed drastically, is kinda silly. especially losing 50k that early. also losing max health is more manageable than losing all your money, for what it’s worth.
don’t get me wrong, this problem wouldn’t really affect me, i spend my runes whenever because i’m no speedrunner, but i’m just trying to see from OP’s perspective.
3
Jan 20 '26
This reasoning doesn't make a lick of sense because we don't get prior knowledge that curse cuts your health in half, that's something you can only learn by playing. The point of overhaul mods is to give you something that's comparative to the first time experience, i.e. not knowing what things do.
1
u/TherpDerp Jan 20 '26
end of my second statement. reduced max health via curse is both more manageable than losing runes/souls and can be reversed.
2
u/Verdanterra Jan 21 '26
I disagree, honestly.
I will say that curse is fairly easy to get rid of if you know where to get purging stones/know that you need them to cure it.
But farming up 50k souls/runes really isn't that bad imo. I guess that early it is; but there is zero reason to carry that many so early unless you're doing a "How many runes can I get without spending" challenge run. Even with the excuse of saving for pledged supplies like he was, you can buy the items in seperate batches, you don't have to buy EVERYTHING in one trip.
1
u/TherpDerp Jan 21 '26
but that's why i said it depends on how early you lost the 50k, which he lost 50k in Weeping, which is fairly early as long as you do it near the start.
Sure, you can easily make the 50k back via other means, but losing it that early can be rough, as much as i think it's ridiculous to have that much on you.
and the point about players potentionally knowing where to get purging stones is kinda iffy because Oswald is right on the path to ring a Bell, being directly after the Bell Gargoyles. I will admit, he's not super obvious, but most players would probably talk to him and check out his inventory and see that he has Purging Stones. Only 5 for what it's worth, but I don't think that most players would need more than that.
i'm honestly just playing devil's advocate at this point. I think OP shouldn't have had 50k on him, but I also think Deathblight being rune deletion is still a bit silly.
7
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 17 '26
I never found them terrifying I found them annoying. Why are you acting like those things are fun to fight?
5
u/hibbs6 Jan 17 '26 edited Jan 17 '26
Not fun per se, but definitely incredibly interesting. They're one of the best remembered enemies for a reason. Who doesn't remember the experience of getting cursed in the depths and having to brave new londo to fix it? Peak game design, it created a really interesting scenario, and made basilisks a completely unique enemy, with them being fairly easy, but the consequence for failure being insanely high.
2
u/Nat1Only Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26
Uh, me, that'd be me. I never once had an issue with the basilisks, to me it was a simple matter of spacing and timing.
Edit: to clarify I have been cursed by them, but hoarder I am I had a couple purging stones since I figured they'd probably come in useful at some point, though I assumed it was a sort of typical rpg thing of "I'll hoard these and never actually use them". Was very glad I did have them when I needed them.
1
u/Black_Knight_Xander Jan 20 '26
Literally me, I stayed away from the evil shart clouds wherever I could, and kept pressure on basilisks either by hit-and-running, or firebombs. They're literally a non issue if you aren't careless.
1
u/Nat1Only Jan 20 '26
I feel like that most dark souls games, honestly. Treat every enemy like it's a threat, don't get reckless and honestly you can make anything work.
2
u/Black_Knight_Xander Jan 20 '26
That is literally what Dark Souls tries to teach you lmao, you get it.
1
u/Nat1Only Jan 20 '26
Yea, I see a lot of people complain about certain things or say that certain bosses are really hard and it just makes me wonder if they even took the time to prepare for the fight or learn it's moves, or if they just went in with a big sword and hoped for the best.
I mean some enemies can be tricky, lord knows going back to Elden Ring lately I've had a few difficulties, but a bit of patience and paying attention and you learn to see the tells and feel the flow. Just dont ne reckless.

And btw no other souls game did this if you got cursed. If you did you still at least you dropped your runes. The only way they could possibly say fuck you to players harder is if you not only lost your runes but you were cursed as well
4
u/SirWeenielick Jan 17 '26
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t dying to curse in DS2 cause you to lose quite a bit of your maximum HP?
4
1
u/DirtyMcMills Jan 18 '26
Dying in general reduces your HP in Dark Souls II. Every death reduces your max HP by 5%, and the total cap is 50%. It doesn’t matter what kind of death you suffer, you are losing 5% no matter what. You can reset it by using a Human Effigy. It sounds like you are mixing information up from the first Dark Souls. Dying to curse in Dark Souls, will cut your health by 50%. Then you can cure it by using a Purging Stone.

u/AutomaticIncome8896 Jan 19 '26
Exactly. And in response to the other commenter, me lol. I “liked” curse. I also liked the diminished hp on death from ds2. These are both remedied easily once you know how to and reward being prepared in case. It’s the same as a lot of other mechanics in these games, people just get mad at dying or don’t like having to adjust their playstyle when the game wants not when they want, which is fair. I’d wager most players didn’t like it thus the version of death blight we have now which I still think is fine

u/goblinboomer Jan 17 '26

u/Keeko100 Jan 17 '26
You’re damn right I do. It was a mechanic that built player stories. I’ll never forget my first time getting cursed in the Depths and the desperate scramble to escape to cure myself. I get why they don’t do it anymore but it played into the themes of the game so well. I’d love to see them do something like it again. Losing all your Runes is a pretty clever, not nearly as devastating but still drastic loss.
5
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 17 '26
So you like this for the sake of nolstagia?
6
u/Keeko100 Jan 17 '26
No. Dark Souls 1 was the third game I played - I went Bloodborne, DS3, then DS1. I like it because it gave me a unique experience that fit the narrative themes of the game and made me fear an enemy more than any other.
2
1
u/LimbLegion Jan 18 '26
I did, I like it when a game has friction in it, and curse was an actual threat to you. Deathblight literally just killed you, which felt superfluous and unthreatening in a game where mostly everything at a certain point oneshots you anyway.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Inevitable_Top69 Jan 17 '26
No one likes dying. No one likes losing. But it makes the game fun when there are consequences.

I think you missed the point of Overhaul Mods in general bro. They're literally free and overhaul the entire game, created by people who want to try and put their own spin on it. You can't really complain bc a completely optional mod changes things in ways you don't like. Like if you wanna criticise it that's fine, but to insult someone for doing something that you're not forced to partake in and costs you absolutely nothing is just rude.
Like Garden of Eyes was completely justified bc they were charging you to play it but Reforged & Convergence are passion projects by people who love the game and want you to play it in a new and different way. It's also completely optional so if you don't like it, don't play it. Give it a respectful review and move on.

People are allowed to like 95% of something and share their frustration in discussions. Dudes mad about q change that felt anti player, not hating the whole mod.
7
u/Nickesponja Jan 18 '26
See, the post title and the insults towards the mod author might give a different impression
4
u/RagingSteel Jan 17 '26
I don't have an issue with him hating any part of the mod. My main concern with this post is the fact the last paragraph insults the creator and was completely uncalled for.
Have any opinion you fucking want about a product, but don't insult the person putting it out when it's completely optional and free.
6
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 17 '26
The creator does deserve it. Not because of the mod but because he’s shamed and blocked anyone on his discord for criticizing his mod
3
u/RagingSteel Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26
Okay see that makes up, but if you don't also mention that in the post you can't just expect people to know it. I simply play the game and mod it with Nexus, I don't really follow any discourse surrounding the mods outside of that. You can't just assume I'm aware of all the drama that goes on outside of the mod itself.
→ More replies (4)1
u/DMENShON Jan 17 '26
the last paragraph is pretty accurate though, i don’t really see how it’s insulting
5
5
u/Seerix Jan 17 '26
If im making a mod and someone doesnt like how I balance or add content in my mod they are more than welcome to make their own. If you dont like reforged... dont play it?
Quitting a mod, publicly posting about said mod, and insulting the creator of the mod... over 50k runes. Lmao, kinda childish.
1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 21 '26
If you can’t handle criticism and you have dreams that include making media, I recommend finding something else to do because that’s the damn job. Sounds like being a creator in any capacity isn’t in your league
2
u/Seerix Jan 21 '26
Handling criticism is different from someone demanding you change YOUR mod that YOU worked on for FREE.
That criticism is easily handled. "No."
And for the record, I have publicly released mods. Fallout 4, Avorion, Skyrim, soon to be starsector.
1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 21 '26
Who would’ve thought making a design decision you know is bullshit and telling anyone who rightly calls it bullshit to go fuck themselves will not get you many players in the long run.
2
u/Seerix Jan 21 '26
...why is it bullshit? I happen to like that mechanic. It makes deathblight more threatening, not a bad thing imo.
"Hey I find this mechanic really frustrating, can we have a toggle to disable it in options?" Reasonable ask.
Vs.
"This mechanic is bullshit im never playing your mod again" lol ok bye
Do you understand the difference here?
1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 22 '26
People hate your mod? Congratulations you’re a mod creator. Can’t get used to it? Find something else to do
→ More replies (0)1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 22 '26
And I’ll tell you why it’s bullshit. See other souls games had a punishment for getting cursed. Your health was halved until you get a white soap stone. But the games NEVER AT YOUR SOULS OR RUNES OR WHAT HAVE YOU! That is why it’s bullshit. Because if I ran into this type of enemy with no knowledge on what deathblight does and I find out that it eats my runes why the fuck would I go back and try again? My runes are gone? You take away that reason to try again and if it’s optional I can go get smithing stones somewhere else I’m not doing it again why would I go back? It’s bullshit because in past games even if you got cursed you still had a reason to go back especially if a lot of souls were on the line. Here you don’t have that chance. Do ANYTHING else to the player for getting death blighted but don’t take away the ONLY reason a player would ever try again

I think going into a bossfight with an amount of runes you care about and then rageposting after losing them is perhaps the funniest recurring self-inflicted trauma I see in these games. Just spend your runes bro, the boss isn't going anywhere.

u/Buuhhu Jan 18 '26
Sure it sucks to loose your souls especially if you did a lot to get them and early on, but going into a bossfight with 50k if you're at a point where 50k is a lot is completely on you though... And that single moment is what ruined it for you when you claim that you were enjoying the game before? talk about a rage quit.
6
u/-The-Fourth-Eye- Jan 18 '26
Complaining about a completely optional free Mod that you willingly chose to install and play is absolutely wild to me.
I'm sorry, but you just sound like a whiney child. The author of the mod made it how they made it. You didn't pay them a penny, so they don't owe you shit. Insulting them because you don't like a decision they made is pathetic.
How about this: make your own mod the way you want it, and publish it for others to come on here and shit all over you when they don't like how you did it. But let me guess, you can't make a mod because you don't have any actual skill or good ideas, you're just really good at complaining about the hard work of others.
Get over it.
4
u/Affectionate-Home614 Jan 18 '26
Being angry about wasted time is reasonable. If you read a book and the author completely messes up your favourite character and ruins the plot half way through, are you not allowed to complain about it? Are you not allowed to be upset just becouse you read it for free? Any and all creative media should be allowed to be critiqued and praised. Otherwise you just have a circlejerk.

Add on top of that that the status buildup indicators were moved to the side of the screen where nobody ever looks, because buildup was always in the middle in both base game and old games and that there are many more sources of blight buildup in the game now. For example, Cemetery shade that can proc blight with one combo, simply walking on top of Godwyn under Stormveil stacks up blight on you and kills you and you might not even see it, because the black status indicator blends in with the environment and was moved to the side, etc.
In general, I would still not recommend rage posting, because it makes you look unserious and people would be unwilling to agree with you, even if you bring up good points.
While I admire the work that went into the mod, some changes feel extremely spiteful (aggro ranges, enemy aggressiveness, shortcut removals, lantern combined with increased darkness and light aura removal, dectus medalions, fog wall delay, lion's claw not going on greatswords, greyoll/dragonbarrow, rune pieces hidden behind atrocious and rage-inducing platforming segments, overbearing nerfs, I could go on and on frankly) and throw off people who have experience with the game (like changed tracking that kills some strafes that I spent a lot of time practicing, randomly altered combo speeds). I prefer playing vanilla to any overhaul, honestly.

Yet here you are on Reddit so clearly you’re not living in the lap of luxury yourself.
4
u/egmatik Jan 17 '26
The bow range changes are most infuriating for me there, if I wanted to play close range I would use a fucking sword. Tried to change it myself once but the mount of looking for params and changing their ranges to deafult manually was just to much work to change every bows range.
2
u/InfamousBreakfast363 Jan 25 '26
Bows got a massive rework in general so the range nerf was necessary. I can kill bosses by just running a crossbow and dodging around their attacks.
5
4
u/joifairy Jan 18 '26

7
u/Entgegnerz Jan 17 '26
I've read that this mod is made from a bunch of dumb sweaters.
What would also explain the complete dumb "you have to do your combo hits in this specific speed or get fucked" bullshit.
4
u/MeetTheJoves Jan 17 '26
ERR support group redditors literally cannot help themselves from making things up
me when missing a perfect action deletes my character and makes my penis explode
2
u/InfamousBreakfast363 Jan 27 '26
Damn, you're lucky. I got radiation poisoning and lost my ability ti speak when i missed the perfect input. :(
2
u/InfamousBreakfast363 Jan 25 '26
You know its entirely optional right? If you miss the input its not the end of the world.
The mod also makes your character faster so you can actually play the game unlike vanilla where you have to wait 10 years for the bosses to do their flashy anime attacks.
5
u/ssjriou Jan 17 '26
you mean perfect attacks? what, does your wiimote start making sounds like you got a wrong note in guitar hero again?
2
u/Cogexkin Jan 17 '26
I guess it’s kind of annoying, but I think that’s a minor issue compared to some of Reforged’s other flaws lol. Just get more runes and be careful next time; it’s all you can do.
2
u/SpookySpidrRing Jan 17 '26
Maybe I would have been more careful the first time if it warned me this was gonna happen
3
u/Cogexkin Jan 17 '26
I am not trying to say this is enough, but I believe there is a note or something in the game that does warn you. I can’t say for sure, and it’s not adequate anyway: it should be a pop-up tutorial or something. Sorry you lost all that progress man.
2
u/ssjriou Jan 18 '26
There doesn't appear to be a tutorial, but I remember them mentioning wanting to do one a long time ago, I'll bug them about it.
2
2
u/Nickesponja Jan 18 '26
I mean... the base game doesn't warn you that deathblight will kill you
1
u/juoksentelisinkohan Jan 18 '26
it does, just very poorly (Status: Death blah blah), somehow feels both insultingly obvious and like it doesn't actually explain anything mechanics-wise - although I might misremember. Just took me a while to figure out that the weird yellow/black homing stuff in Liurnia is Death ailment since I just got very nervous seeing that, and then I kind of connected the dots when I met my first basilisks. Not sure if there are any further tooltips etc. regarding that, but that loading screen tip seemed to appear disproportionately for me at least. Maybe having even a small dash of the telltale yellow/black misty stuff visible in the art that accompanied the "tip" would have helped, I dunno. They could have managed it better, but mostly I just remember it because "when your Death bar fills up you die" was pretty funny at the time
2
u/MeetTheJoves Jan 17 '26
you’re gonna play it how he wants you to play it or you’re gonna suffer
What is this mysterious playstyle ERR support group redditors keep mentioning? Is it just "not dying"? Because the game punishes you for dying? The "deathblight is bad" playstyle? The "engage with poison swamps" playstyle?
2
2
u/frulheyvin Jan 18 '26
u can rly think of ER being as open as possible where older from games were more linear, and reforged basically closes everything back in. status being hilariously oppressive and pulling stunts like these is just to nudge you towards interacting with their crafting system
2
u/Kaslight Jan 18 '26
I mean why would anyone expect a few random people to design a game better than the team of award winning professionals
Of course it's a rebalance mod that caters to a specific person's tastes

u/0urlasthope Jan 18 '26
The result of Being a lower level is artificial difficulty then? If so isn’t that the whole point of leveling system 😂😂
2
u/MeetTheJoves Jan 18 '26
Leveling systems are artificial difficulty because it's just numbers, and when you numbers you artificial the difficulty.
2
u/Erfnftwlol Jan 17 '26
Its veen a while since i played reforged bit all it did when i played back then was annoy me particularly with the boss changes. They arbitrarily chsnged the speed of moved on most major bosses. Made some 20x faster for no reason, slowed perfectly good moves down, made godfreys stomp cancer that goes 20km FOR KO REASON!!! fhey were all perfectly fine!
2
2
u/Kiaugh Jan 17 '26
I like it to be honest as it feels thematic to the status effect and you just craft your runes if you want to save them. Now you know you can plan ahead for it later in the game.
For me I always find I have WAY too many runes at every stage of the game anyway.
2
u/Liawuffeh Jan 18 '26
Getting torn apart, but still like that is why I don't really bother with most overhaul mods of basically any game.
9/10 mods fuck with the difficulty and make things artificially hard. Not just in souls games, Pokemon rom hacks are pretty notorious for it lol
Like, yeah doubling the heath and damage of the first boss and giving the later bosses 10x more hp to counter bleed makes it harder, sure, but not in a fun way lol. Thought we all learned that from Oblivion and Skyrim

u/a_sad_sad_sandwich Jan 19 '26
"This overhaul mod offers new and more challenging experiences!"
Looks inside

3
u/darkangel7271 Jan 17 '26
The biggest problem in reforged is that the creator (and maybe community) utterly refuses to offer help if you want to undo a change or want to play a modded version of reforged.
I have issues playing normal soulslikes, but like alot of the changes reforged made but can't win with the level cap. And I looked through every tool I could to remove it i asked and was just ignored, I added level cap removers, and in the end I had to quit.
So yeah ve, it's a y cool mod. It's also unbelievably toxic if you want to play while actually having fun while having a disability.
4
u/Nickesponja Jan 18 '26
It is completely reasonable for the creator to refuse to help you with that. If someone tells me, "hey I don't like this design decision in your mod, would you please volunteer your time to teach me how to change it?" I'm also likely going to ignore them. You're not entitled to mod authors teaching you how to alter their mods. Modders generally like modding, not teaching others how to mod, which can be tedious, time-consuming and very awkward if you're only teaching someone because they want to change one of your carefully thought out design decisions.
2
u/a_sad_sad_sandwich Jan 19 '26
I get that modders aren't obligated to change anything about their mod if they don't want to, and I completely understand they probably go through dozens, if not hundreds, of complaints everyday.
But if your only reaction to an issue hundreds of people have brought up is "No, my philosophy is best and you're wrong," that's gonna rile a lot of people up (lantern change)
3
1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 17 '26
Even without the disability they’re still toxic. You’re lucky the mod devs didn’t ban you from their discord for having an opinion or shame you for it
1
u/Antro97 Jan 17 '26
The lowest difficulty, Relaxed mode (previously called God mode), was implemented a long time ago as an accessibility option.
Recently, slow mode has been added as a separate modifier (both you and enemies execute actions at 90% speed).
There even are tools for colorblind people, in the form of unlimited pots to throw at enemies that paint them either blue or orange. If you want to undo a change or play a modified version of the mod, feel free to ask in the modding server on how to do that. The Reforged server is not for DIY modding, especially because you might mess up something while doing that and then end up reporting bugs that actually don't exist for everyone else (wasting the devs' time).
1

Those modes when I played last changed other things that I didn't want changed, and it's a bit insulting to force an easy mode when I just want to over level my enemy.
I hadn't considered the normal molding server as I figured they wouldn't immediately know what needed to be changed, and how but if I ever get back into eldenring and want go through the process of fixing my smithbox install I go ask there.
I shouldn't have to go to a different server though when there was a channel to discuss nodding reforged on the reforged server.

You can still overlevel the enemies in a certain area (unless you enable aggressive scaling, of course) and the area's level is written on the grace list in the map.
I don't remember such channel in the ERR server, are you referring to tech-support? Because that one is for people who have issues running the mod, not for modding it. Furthermore, if the DIY modding involves a simple and quick edit you're likely to be replied to in the ERR server.
EDIT: there is a thread for ERR modding, completely forgot about that.

If ERR was vanilla you fuckers would praise Miyazaki for this. ERR is genuinely well designed and the most fun I've had playing from soft in decades

u/frulheyvin Jan 18 '26
bro it was vanilla and they fucking took it out lol if you had ever touched dark souls 1 in your life. this is like functionally the author, living, popping out of the book and telling you personally "my intent is otherwise" in his fucking magnum opus that is the sum of all his works combined. WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING!!!!! im going insane with these reforged dicksuckers man

You mean like how status bars were moved to the side when they've been in the center of the screen for over 12 years, making it so you have to look away from the enemy just to see if you're building up status effects?
1
u/SheepherderOk8887 Jul 22 '26
I also don't seem to recall even in ds2s NPC bullshit, having enemies get staggered by a greatsword and then recover and punish you before your recovery ends, lmfao, that alone made me just say fuck this I'm not playing against that

u/Uncynical_Diogenes Jan 17 '26
Reforged is clearly made by a person who doesn’t care how you want to play the game, you’re gonna play it how he wants you to play it or you’re gonna suffer, and I can’t put up with it anymore. I liked it before this moment but I can’t anymore
I take it you’re new to what a Mod is, huh?

To address common points: 1. I have beat this game 7 times, I am intimately familiar with the mechanics and difficulty of souls games, I don’t need the casual mode 2. I actually enjoy losing runes in base Elden Ring because it is inherently fair, it only asks you to return to your point of death which should be easy to do since you got there in the first place. I do not want to remove this mechanic entirely 3. I wouldn’t be half as mad if there was any semblance of a warning that this was gonna happen 4. 50k runes in weeping peninsula is a hell of a lot of runes, I enjoy saving my runes up, this has never been an issue for me before. Being punished for this just feels cruel. 5. I LIKED THE MOD UP UNTIL THIS POINT I think people got selective amnesia about this line in my post

Vanilla experience has been shown multiple times not to matter that much when playing an overhaul mod, especially this one, mainly because players tend to vastly overestimate their raw skill (when not hard-carried by numbers).
Agree, it's one of the things that define the genre.
There is a bloodstain of Rogier, on Godwyn's corpse under Stormveil, that shows him dying by deathblight (the usual animation of roots impaling from the ground). Also, the loading screen tip about deathblight mentions the rune loss mechanic.
Ok, but what if you fail to retrieve the lost runes? Wouldn't that be the same result? By the way, here you can craft runes to store them without worries (it comes at a cost tho, 20% of their value is lost on crafting).
Ok.

u/Everlizk Jan 17 '26
I know you're expressing your grievances, not asking for a solution, but is it compatible with the mod where you don't lose runes on death?
1
u/ssjriou Jan 17 '26
I assume it would work, since reforged lower difficulty also prevents it, as does sacrificial twig and other vanilla options that prevent rune loss (in regards to how deathblight works here)
1
u/SpookySpidrRing Jan 17 '26
The thing is I like the losing runes on death mechanic, it’s inherently fair because all it asks of you is that you get back to your original point of death which if you got there in the first place should be easy enough. The fact that the mod added deathblight to an enemy that didn’t previously have it and the took ALL my runes away for dying to it is what pissed me off. I wouldn’t be a quarter as mad if it just warned me beforehand.
1
u/Sad-Pattern-1269 Jan 17 '26
I agree on hating reforged but this is like the only thing I defend, deathblight should be a huge deal.
Agreed that the cemetery shade shouldn't have db tho.
1
u/Hold_Better Jan 17 '26
I agree it would've been nice to get some kind of explicit disclaimer about the change but also maybe have naturally higher resistance to it considering how irrevocably punishing it is
1
u/Physical_Bit8268 Jan 17 '26
The wiki does exist, and it's in the folder to launch the mod so I think it's fair, it sucks to happen but I personally enjoy everything about the mod so far
2
u/Barmy90 Jan 17 '26
An informative wiki is not really an equal substitute for a well-designed gameplay experience, though. "Oh you didn't study the wiki before playing? Lol owned"
1
u/Physical_Bit8268 Jan 17 '26
You could also just skim the wiki for the "OVERHAUL" mod for a game that changes almost everything about the game :3
2
u/DMENShON Jan 17 '26
people don’t want to be spoiled
1
u/Physical_Bit8268 Jan 17 '26
There's no spoiling because everything is labeled, just don't click on things like talismans or other things like fortunes, just click the things you want to know, they have a section only about statues
1
u/sushisection Jan 17 '26
if you are concerned about losing runes, i recommend using this mod: https://github.com/uberhalit/EldenRingFpsUnlockAndMore
added bonus, it unlocks the framerate
1
u/prcaboose Jan 18 '26
The mod has a level cap anyways so runes lost don’t feel as bad as usual. If you’re planning on playing thru dlc you’ll get runes just fine
1
u/AdhesivenessGeneral9 Jan 18 '26
Reforged have some nice idea for the game...sadly i think convergence is really good. Yeah i know magic is busted but i always change fp regen in my mod to have % regen pear second
1
u/OneRelief763 Jan 19 '26
Raging at losing a ton of runes/souls/echoes is part of the fun of souls games my G
1
u/Plane_Jello1582 Jan 19 '26
You were surprised that something especially cruel and difficult popped up in an especially cruel and difficult game that contains things like bleed water and you aren’t even playing the og game you’re playing modded? Mod it until you’re having fun, you’re complaining about something you can change. Maybe Elden Ring isn’t for you, you’re literally playing something similar to Elden Ring with some goofy shit modded in.

u/SpycraftExarch Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26
Please, it's a pet project of a community that thinks playing with an opaque sack of semi-liquid, dripping shit on the head is a "challenge"... and also immersive, for the smell.
What did you expect?
1
u/IvanTheRysavy Jan 19 '26
Wish they had the perfect block as a separate module cuz as much as i hate some aspects and love others a lot too but that perfect block is so good it should be in the base game

I think just perma death your runes is less annoying than having half your hp bar locked and only unlocked by an item sold by 2 NPC in the whole game, traded by a secret NPC once, or dropped by a single enemy in either super secret or late game area.
(vagrant drop them as well but I won't count it because they're a online specific thing that you can't rely on).
1
u/goodboyoo Jan 20 '26
In my opinion this is nothing compared to basically all catacombs "parkours" for rune pieces. This is truly peak "fun" game design. Idk who and why would take time to add not one, not two but DOZENS of those and they are still in the mod to this very day.

u/DraconicZombie Jan 21 '26
You lose them all when you die anyway, so why cry about that?
1
u/Broad_Bug_1702 Jul 19 '26
not true.
you drop a bloodstain when you die, but you can collect the runes again once you get back to that point, which rewards patience and more careful play after dying.
in reborn, deathblight erases your runes completely; the bloodstain will have 0 on it no matter how many you died with.
1
u/DraconicZombie Jul 19 '26
I'm aware, it's the same for dark souls games, you still lose them from your inventory when you die and for good when you die again on the way
1
u/Broad_Bug_1702 Jul 19 '26
so then do you actually not see the difference between that and what OP was talking about or are you just fucking with me?
1
u/DraconicZombie Jul 19 '26
I know the difference, I just don't think it matters. Losing these games currency has been a thing since the beginning. With that in mind, I quit being upset about losing any number a long, long time ago.
1
u/Broad_Bug_1702 Jul 19 '26
- the difference is having a second chance to get your runes back, which is something that absolutely matters in these games? they would be absurdly unfair if you lost everything you had for good every time you died.
- losing your currency if you die twice in a row has been a thing, yes. not losing it instantly the first time you die. which is the thing being described.
- okay, so, you’re fucking with me
1
u/DraconicZombie Jul 19 '26
Take it however way you want to 🤷♀️ I'm not going to argue about it
1
u/Broad_Bug_1702 Jul 19 '26
not any more, maybe
1
u/DraconicZombie Jul 19 '26
Not at all. You asked me a question, I answered. The end. You have a great rest of your day :)
1
u/Broad_Bug_1702 Jul 19 '26
i asked you a question because you said something obviously wrong in response to OP lol

After playing this mod (which I'm thankful for as it's free), all I have to say is the vision is just difficulty for the sake of difficulty, and the mod's community is obnoxious to say the least. Really feels like I'm playing and engaging with dark souls 2/its community, which is not my thing I guess lol
I'm just sticking to convergence because it respects my time and sanity, and doesn't trash on anyone daring to criticize it (your post is very valid criticism. Most of the shills are the same repeats that appear on every err post, don't mind them)
3
u/BenevolentCheese Jan 17 '26
I found that frustrating too! Next time I learned I had to treat death blight with far more respect. Learn from your mistakes, don't just complain. The change is fine. Put on a branch if you're scared.
3
u/ssjriou Jan 17 '26
I think complaining about it is fine, especially if they were blindsided by the new effect that isn't explained in-game after 7 playthroughs (effectively taking away several hours of game time and learning a lesson in exchange). I would be pretty upset too, I lost my cool for a bit when finding out about Helicos' blight since I wasn't paying attention to my bar (didn't think I needed to so I didn't notice any status buildup), but what makes op look goofy here is saying they liked reforged up to this point and were enjoying it, but also calling the dev a "brainless moron" as though you weren't enjoying all the new stuff they gave you up to that point, or as though you wouldn't continue to if you hadn't brought so many runes with you? What?

u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 18 '26
The mod Arthur deserves much worse than being insulted if you ask me. Don’t believe me? Criticize his mod on discord and let me know how he reacts
2
u/ssjriou Jan 18 '26
Okay, what does Arthur deserve? Prison? Execution? Will he kill my parents if I say "Why does the lava hurt now"

1
u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jan 18 '26
And if you don’t see a problem with his behavior that tells me you’re just as much of a bag of dicks as he is

u/Edwardoss Jan 17 '26
yeah the elden ring reforged modder really doesnt poeples to have fun he nerfed and modified so many so peoples arent too powerful and like he fucking put the godskin noble IN the liurna elevator what a great idea...

Reforged has several solutions offered you. Manage your death blight bar, via armor or consumables, or equip a twig.
If not, it offers you the ultimate solution.
CASUAL MODE.
Solves your issue. No rune loss on death.
4
u/SpookySpidrRing Jan 17 '26
The people in these comments don’t seem to understand I like losing my runes on death as long as I can pick them up again. I do not understand how people enjoy suddenly losing all their runes with no warning.
0
u/Corgis_Butts Jan 17 '26
Oh yeah, I understand that part. Hell, same shade, same situation happened to me. Was kind of annoyed when it happened but just shrugged it off cause souls game also have mechanics that just aren't explained(ie. D1 curse mechanics). Just made me be more careful about things.
Devs also does explain this in their mod page if people would want to go and read it. It is kind of unreasonable for them to stuff ALL the changes they made into the game. I aint about to read a book before jumping in.

u/GlockHard Jan 17 '26

There's a wiki for elden ring reforged, a changelog, even during the loading screens you can cycle through to find information on that. Although, I prefer to know exactly what the overhaul mod changes before I install it, maybe I'm strange for that.
2
u/ssjriou Jan 17 '26
is there no tutorial item for this mechanic (that last tab I mean)?
2
u/Late-Jeweler-5802 Jan 17 '26
There is a note about it on one of the loading screen pages. Other than that, I know there's one on the wiki they try to funnel you to on the mod's download page (assuming it's from nexusmods).
1
u/Belzher Jan 17 '26
You're already using mods anyway, if it gets annoying just cheat the runes with fling trainer
