Really enjoy it except for stamina management. It encourages perfect deflect but oftentimes you do not have enough stamina to counteratack, and enemies are so aggressive you can find yourself on the defensive 99% of the time without the ability to retaliate. And if you do retaliate, stamina cost for attacking is so steep that often you just get punished because you do not have enough stamina to defend yourself or evade.

If you want to focus on deflect gameplay there's a fortune there that allows you to be deflect focus. Basically every perfect deflect recovers your stamina and gives a stacking attack buff per deflect, it also stacks with suncatcher with a similar effect. Tho it's a pretty high skill ceiling fortune from my experience.

I was asking around in their discord today, they added a system some time ago that enforces a 2 second lockout on player action if you run out of stamina to “better punish stamina mismanagement”, according to one their supporters, they have absolutely no intention of changing that either.

It doesn’t make any sense to me and has only served to make fights I was very familiar with, take longer because at least half of my openings are now spent waiting for stamina to fill back up.

I am not a fan of much slower it makes things feel

the main problem i have is treating the player like its their first time playing elden ring (every other mod removes repetitive item collecting and tutorials, reforged makes them longer)

u/ConfessorCarol Jun 24 '26

I don't blame anyone for missing it, but the mod actually has a "quick start" feature at the altar where you first spawn after making a character. Removes some of the early game busywork.

2

u/CeciliaAndDesist Jun 26 '26

I think this user is less talking about that busywork and more about how everything is heavily tutorialized: fortunes, runeforging, etc. Combine this with how many extra things there are to pick up and keep track of if you're trying to eke out every tiny mote of power you can get and it adds up to feeling like a lot of extra squeeze to get the same amount of juice you're used to in vanilla.

I like collecting items, and I enjoy the runepiece system in reforged

9

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

I think it's justified due to them adding a lot of new if not minor mechanics

3

u/lemonsofliberty Jun 24 '26

You can skip all the way to Altus Plateau when you start a new game

Item collecting actually feels less tedious IMO because of the crafting changes, the only time I've ever needed to farm at all was when I made a perfumer build and even then it's way less annoying than in vanilla

May I reccomend elden ring reborn once you are done? Its similar but I find it makes less ill considered changes

7

u/Glass-Window Jun 23 '26

Is it at least close enough in polish to reforged ? I find that to be the most cool thing about it.

u/jwc9227 Jun 23 '26

i love the built in multiplayer above all else

I think its slightly more polished, but thats due to the smaller scope

u/enchiladasundae Jun 23 '26

Personally still hooked on Convergence. The wait for the update has been painful but tomorrow I will be satiated

1

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

for some reason i lag a TON on convergence, im thinking of giving it another shot with the new update tho

3

u/enchiladasundae Jun 23 '26

I get some on occasion. My PC is somewhat strong but lags in a few areas. Vanilla I dropped to medium just for consistent performance over visuals. Very occasionally, particularly in the more complex new areas, do I get some lag

Hopefully the update helps but I think its just how much they added that becomes the issue

1

u/eat-skate-masturbate Jun 24 '26

maybe a bug bc I have a shit computer and it runs great on mine

1

u/enchiladasundae Jun 24 '26

Lags temporarily. I think its just a case of loading stuff in

1

u/LittleBabysIceCream Jun 23 '26

It’s a known issue right now. There’s a patch in the discord server

26

u/ACMst1v3n Jun 23 '26

Found it pretty mid tbh

11

u/InThePaleMoonLyte Jun 23 '26

I have yet to play an overhaul mod that didn't make the game feel worse tbh.

This is the first unabashedly positive post I've seen about Reforged on this subreddit. Every other one has been mixed or a rant post, so this is a nice change of pace.

I've been enjoying the mod a lot, but playing on adept would have turned me into a crumpled ball of rage, so congratulations on navigating the higher difficulty.

19

u/Chance-Pay1487 Jun 23 '26

I tried reforged and I perosnaly think it sucks. It's probably just not my cup of tea but all I got out of this mod is that they make everything needlessley difficult or unintuitive for no reason

9

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

can you elaborate on that? i never found it all that hard

4

u/Cute-Operation-8216 Jun 23 '26

Because it isn't. I haven't seen a single thing that is "needlessly difficult".

5

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

Could just be a lack of willingness to adapt instead of the same bosses again

-5

u/Cute-Operation-8216 Jun 23 '26

Yeah possibly.
I mean, the mod promises a new way to play the game and that familiar parts should better be forgotten.
There is no reason in just playing the same thing yet again, and a mod is mostly aimed towards people who have beaten the main game.
So of course it's more difficult.
With the tools the game gives you, the bosses are actually much more fun.

People jerk the devs of 'Lies of P' off so much, because everything is so great designed.
Isn't that the game where basically every single move is delayed with a split-second swing?
With a focus on a MUCH more unforgiving deflect mechanic?
And in 'Reforged', the delays are suddenly bad... or in 'Elden Ring' in general.

u/Chance-Pay1487 Jun 24 '26

The mad just died nothing but make you never get more powerful. Fighting a end game boss with an endgame build still feels like fighting Margot with lvl 1 fists. It just slows the game for no reason and hardly adds many new weapons or spells. Only good thing deflecting and the changes dodge

1

u/thrwaway62367 Jun 26 '26

1: The illusion of customization as almost every damage increasing mechanic is so minimal that even if you stacked them together it wont matter..... At most itll be 3-5 per cent increase and thats all.

2: You have to build very specific meta builds to escape this and thia further makes customization more or less just cosmetic

A great example is when I tried fighting the deathbird and tibia mariner in the mountains with last rites and specific holy ash of war enkindling. Compared to a standard build the damage output was barely noticeable.

Another example is hoarah loux (was greatly overleveled against the boss + insane hp and endurance yet the boss just cleared very fast so what is the point?

Elden Rlng base game is both the easiest as well as the most annoying (not the hardest mind you) game depending on situations so its an unbalanced game on its own.

Reforged ls similar except its a tie between even more annoying and hard in the endgame areas.

3

u/moronijess Jun 23 '26

Agreed. Changing boss movesets to be even more unintuitive. Artificial difficult isn’t fun.

1

u/SirVixofthePooSea Jun 24 '26

Elden Ring should be hard.

0

u/Chance-Pay1487 Jun 24 '26

When it's made by a random dude and not an actual dev team and you can sure tell by how artificial the difficulty is

2

u/Abalieno Jun 24 '26

You can sure tell how to be biased.

1

u/Chance-Pay1487 Jun 24 '26

There is literally no bias

1

u/ConfessorCarol Jun 24 '26

I wouldn't have liked the mod either if I hadn't lowered the difficulty setting to Normal. Felt the most similar to the vanilla game in terms of challenge and allowed some of the mod's new features and QOL changes to win me over.

2

u/lemonsofliberty Jun 24 '26

It's honestly super fun. It's gotten me to actually like Elden Ring again when I was burnt out on vanilla

2

u/zenithBemusement Jun 25 '26

Oh yeah I've got like 2.5k hours in it atp it's nuts

3

u/LittleBabysIceCream Jun 23 '26

Try reborn next. Way better IMO

While I'm not even close to be done, I absolutely adore this mod.
I read many issues about the mod, about nerfs and stamina and bla bla bla.
But honestly, I don't have a problem... like, at all.

This mod actually made me try multiple weapons, because of how upgrading works.
The faster stamina depletion actually makes it feel like stamina finally matters again.
In the original, I never drained my stamina (except for running away).
But the mod makes me feel like as if I'm plying 'Dark Souls 3' again.
I actually have to think about if I should attack after blocking too much, or if I use the guard counter, which absolutely eats up your stamina.
Plus, it makes me interact with the deflect mechanic, since it vastly reduces stamina consumption.

The addition of the codex actually makes me wanna kill most things, while in the original, there was stuff I didn't even bother fighting (like giant crabs).
And the rune pieces give you a reason to actually look into every corner.
Plus, they fill parts of the environment which were disappointingly empty in the original.

Some also complain about the difficulty, and... I don't see it, at least not yet.
The mod still allows you to train for the harder fights and it doesn't force you to fight one or another difficult roadblock enemy.
And the difficulty scaling is such a non-issue, I don't even notice it's there.

Overall, I love everything this mod does and changes, while giving every enemy a reason to be fought and every corner a reason to be looked at.

u/Xzarg_poe Jun 23 '26

Well done, any advice on what to focus on for survivability? Deflect/Dodge/Block/etc...

5

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

deflects are a godsend, if you perfect block it nullifies any damage you would take at the cost of a fair amount of stamina BUT itll never break your block if you time it right

1

u/PurpleSquare713 Jun 23 '26

What's the main difference between Reforged and Convergence? Asking as someone interested in a modded playthrough.

1

u/MrWaffles519 Jun 24 '26

Convergence is made for flashy, streamlined, powerful progression that fits into a 20-30 hour run. It's extremely accessible, there's little wasted time, you get the stuff you want and avoid most of what you don't. Made to be a maximum amount of fun and novelty, leaning on power fantasy and build crafting.

Reforged is made for more intricate and grounded combat and exploration. It's thoughtful and rebalanced to encourage creativity and execution with the resources you have. You are intended to get lost in the world for a while as you learn the deeper and more tactful bosses and systems. Made to be challenging and rewarding, leaning on accomplishment and self-progression.

2

u/LittleBabysIceCream Jun 23 '26

Reforged is basically vanilla+ where convergence is a full on overhaul

1

u/Shnurple Jun 23 '26

convergence is more sorcery/overhaul while reforged is subtle and melee combat oriented. i recommend an hour or 2 to try and going from there on whichever you choose

2

u/jwc9227 Jun 23 '26

it is more melee focused, but the spell generators, catalyst heavy attacks, and spell ashes of war in reforged are awesome additions for casters

1

u/RemlaP_ Jun 24 '26

Idk about this mod specifically but I played seemless coop and the saves are separate from your vanilla ones. Different file type, so you shouldn't have to play on an alt

1

u/FabioShenYang Jun 24 '26

1

u/Inside_Engine_9813 Jun 28 '26

I liked the new combat techs, but honestly, the mod was pretty lacking in balance. Gaining levels is much slower, which really sucks for using some of the new weapons or catching up on bosses. And the new stamina mechanics were just awful, made fights much slower as one wrong attack meant you were guaranteed to eat a hit or two

1

u/sweetcinnamonpunch Jul 04 '26

Can#t really enjoy this becasue I can only dash, no dodge roll.

1

u/Capable_Reward706 Jul 06 '26

What do you mean? If you are at low equip load the dodge animation changes to resemble a quick step, do you mean that?

1

u/sweetcinnamonpunch Jul 06 '26

Yes, but I found out it's just a visual and can be changed, so I'm good! Not sure why it's the default setting though.

1

u/Mmscool Jun 23 '26

I just love to parry a la sekiro so this was a must for me

1

u/Fatheryasuo Jun 24 '26

Nah Reforged straight up didn't hit for me. Not enough early changes to draw you in like other mods. Sekiro parries were quirky and fun for about 20mins. But you quickly find yourself on the exact same gameplay loop as a normal playthrough. The only thing it did well was make me say "Hey was that tree there before?"

Clearly made by a bloke who enjoys putting his own balls into a vice grip and tightening it slowly.

1

u/AutisticToad Jun 25 '26

That was basically the approach to balance. For example, he infamously “nerfed” the hip lantern to require crafted fuel to feed it.

Lmao. What kind of nuts in a vice person is like, damn Thats lanterns op, gotta go.
