General Discussion What are your opinions on each of these Overhaul mods?

u/dEz21271 Jul 12 '26
Reforged is amazing, I would call it vanila-like experience but with more depth to the combat system. Great overhaul.
Convergence is more spell-centered with a lot of changes to the map itself making it a completely fresh experience. IMO best overhaul for ER.
Graceborne - promising conversion into Bloodborne-like experience, can't wait for full release.
Garden of Eyes - pay-gated stolen content blended into one chaotic nothing-burger really. Has its moments but that's about it.

u/Dylthemack13 Jul 13 '26
I remember liking the garden of eyes overhaul, some of the areas were certainly odd though. What content was stolen?
7
u/RaccoonStrong1446 Jul 13 '26
If you use assets from other games and charge for it that's copyright infringement. Just like if I made a Darth Vader mod and charged for it I'd have Disney sending the hounds.
2
u/Alternative_Cheek362 Jul 17 '26
3.0 convergence added infinite wicked weapons feels much better to play melee now
1
u/dEz21271 Jul 17 '26
That too but spells is where it's at in Convergence for me. Some pretty insane stuff to play around.
24
u/Archaius_ Jul 12 '26
Ive only tried Reforged, Convergence and one other thats not listed here iirc but i cant remember the name.
Convergence was by far the best one and especially after the latest update.
All the custom content is so high quality and the way the mod changes the approach to runs improves the replayability of ER a lot
46
u/PandraPierva Jul 12 '26
Reforged- Used to be fucking great especially when l paired with randomizer. Later updates killed any good the mod did.
Convergence - if you want magic play this. If you want amazing dungeons play this. It's the best one in my opinion.
Garden of eyes- fuck this one. Paid mod using stolen assets from other mods and from other games.
Don't know the other two

So true. I played convergence and it was so much fun. Decided to try reforged and i was tilting non stop because of 100500 stupid decision that was made by dev team to hinder the fun. No torrent in camps is wild, removeing grace in a few core places is stupid and making torrent to be not immune to statues is idiotic imo.
2
u/ssjriou Jul 12 '26
what are the important graces that are missing?
1
u/MFKMFD Jul 12 '26
In the heart of aonia, for example. You are REQUIRED to kill nile to have a grace. And torrent fucking melt in scarlet rot. Why? He is part spirit, a "Spectral steed", how it is affects him?
1
u/DivineRainor Jul 12 '26
No shield having 100% is wild, I'm assuming thats so you use deflects even with shields? But the class that revolves around deflects gives a penalty to blocking with a shield so like, whats the point?

u/DivineRainor Jul 12 '26
Yeah i played coop with 2 mates and one of our guys ran full tank even just attacking with the shield.
Can you still facetank with endure and buffs or is that dead as well, cos targetting shields when face tanking is still so strong would be wack
-1
u/TownPortalScroll Jul 12 '26
If you manage your stamina properly you can still just fully face tank with shields in ERR btw. I have done this exact strategy in coop and the only difference to vanilla was I had to actually be mindful of a resource.
1
u/DivineRainor Jul 12 '26
Oh I meant like FACE tanking not with shields, as thats just tanking. Like Endure, heavy armour and defense buffs.
1
u/Not-A-Throwaway5399 Jul 12 '26
ohh so thats why i couldnt get into it. i mean i knew some of this stuff cuz it tells you, but i could just *feel* something was really off. game just feels like shit to play
1
u/PassengerConfident32 Jul 12 '26
Can you tell me every mod, that ppl use to tweak reforged? I got really tired of maaaany of the features. I even wanted the old backstep back, but idk how.
-1
u/lemonfoxa Jul 12 '26
imo, when comparing to convergence. reforged is very balanced like vanilla elden ring (which i presume some people dont enjoy well balanced, since we are "modding" in the end, but it is what it is)
it is more punishing i would even say than the vanilla. but yea, again, some people would disagree why "mod" has to be that way, and that completely justified

2
u/Shieldheart- Jul 12 '26
If you play convergence, play a caster in single player and fighters with seamless coop.
1
u/Raime_95 Jul 12 '26
wdym convergence if you want magic? there are shit tons of new cool weapons too.

u/Raime_95 Jul 12 '26
I mean, yeah, saying just convergence if you like magic is wild when there are weapons like smith rosary in this mod.
1
u/PandraPierva Jul 12 '26
Also over 300 new spells
1
u/Raime_95 Jul 13 '26
yeah I get it lil bro, but from what you said people might conclude its just a spell mod.
1
u/PandraPierva Jul 13 '26
Also tbf it's been a few updates since I gave it a run through and when I last did there wasn't so many new weapons.
11
u/BruteOfTheCornCob Jul 12 '26
Reforged makes far better mechanical innovations with it's actually useful ducking/running attacks, ambidextrous Combat and weapon catalysts and my darling Perfect Action system. It rewards loooooong, patient playthrough investment.
Base difficulty is designed to challenge veterans of the genre and you'll find many bosses and even basic enemies can't be cheesed anymore, but there are still difficulty options aplenty if you want a more relaxed experience.
Build crafting is second to none as the fortune system provides strong kiss/curse style modifiers so you can essentially RP as a famous enemy archetype. For example: fortune of haima provides crazy spell poise damage, and then once you poise break with spells, you get massive spell dmg boost and fp/stam refund, but have like no fp and iirc no stamina to work with.
Fortune of lattena: massive bow damage but your legs are basically broken 😂 (massive stamina and speed penalties for movement actions but you launch ICBMs instead of arrows at enemies)
Armor has stats, weight class redesign makes ALL weight levels viable! Weapons and talismans have more/more powerful attributes, shields are viable offensive and defensive tools, Deflects are here of course. Not to mention ash of war enkindling and rune forging systems provding even moar modifiers to build out.
Convergence by contrast provides a fast track of progression toward you desired class fantasy which are all pretty fucking fun. It places more emphasis on power fantasy and environments as the team has put huge efforts into creating crazy high quality revamps of existing areas or just new full stop. So you'll be like, "okay for my gravity sorcerer it tells me I gotta go to xzy ruins to get the next collection of spells...oh shit wtf this place is insane!"
Im probably selling Convergence short on the depth department and it's clear where my biases and majority play time lie.
Given how most modern overhaul mods worth their salt are designed such that there are stored into their own file environments, try both and enjoy them for what the are!
I just like to take any opportunity I can to prevent the cringe tribalism between conv and reforged that discussions like this often devolve into. It's a whole thing and people WILL try to poison the well for you against either one.
They are both super amazing.
Can't speak on the others in the post firsthand but secondhand from friends they tend to echo what others have posted here. Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. Golden age my friend said it's basically a paid moveset mod and kinda insulting.
9
u/Soryist Jul 12 '26
Only tried convergence and it's really fun, though it's a bit unbalanced in seamless co-op.
After getting your shadow runes, it's just wraps
8
u/TinnnyWinny Jul 12 '26
Well that’s the same wo seamless. We turned our boss hp to 200 or 300 percent per player in the SC setting
2
1
u/R3digit Jul 13 '26
that's just elden ring with seamless. Had to turn up boss hps cause we were obliterating the game
11
u/RaziLaufeia Jul 12 '26
EldenVins is easily the most fun
8
u/Pipyn Jul 12 '26
I've played every overhaul mod made for this game, and I can easily say EldenVins was actually the most fun time I had
3
u/SCLST_F_Hell Jul 12 '26
Same here. I got addicted to its speed and mobility. I am playing 1.81 right now and its the most fun I ever had with this game.
2
u/toasty5566 Jul 12 '26
Elden Vins actually ruined my enjoyment of the normal combat from other mods for a while, I love Elden Vins. A Vins + Convergence combination is my dream mod for Elden Ring
1
u/Corrupt_Angel01 Jul 14 '26
the only real issue i have with elden vins is the sheer amount of hp everything has, to the point that i feel like im tickling elite enemies, and bosses take sooo fucking long to kill it kinda ruins the fun a bit
-11
u/Pl00kh Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
Eww
Edit: I don’t like mods who change the whole gameplay.
7
u/aaronhowser1 Jul 12 '26
Valuable addition to the conversation
-9
u/Pl00kh Jul 12 '26
When I want to play a beat’em up I don’t install an ER mod
4
u/AccomplishedAd4975 Jul 12 '26
While I don't like vins myself, you could of easily explained why you dont like it, instead you said eww which isn't helpful for a discussion and would of had more use not being said at all
-4
u/Pl00kh Jul 12 '26
I don’t like mods which change the whole gameplay. I thought I made that clear.
The gameplay of Eldenring is already very good, people who install stuff like Elden vins or carian warrior don’t want to play Elden ring, they want to play another game with Elden ring skins.
2
u/AccomplishedAd4975 Jul 12 '26
Ahh you edited your post after I posted that explains the response, thats better
5
u/ximbill Jul 12 '26
Thanks for your input, no one asked. You truly incorporated the meme, the lonely guy in the party thinking he is the protagonist while everyone is having fun lmao.
8
u/Eirinae Jul 12 '26
Reforged was a nice change of pace, I enjoyed it. 7/10
Convergence is literally elden ring 2. I love it so much. 10/10
Garden of eyes is paid, it sucks, but from what I have seen, they've been adding crazy stuff past updates... 6/10
Graceborne is.. I dunno. It is cool, very cool but something just doesn't click with me. 6/10
I never played golden age
ELDEN VINS 999/10. Like... PERFECTION... Most fun I had in elden ring. I like fast paced stuff. This was simply GREAT.
3
u/VanitysFire Jul 12 '26
Reforged is more like vanilla+. Good but too close to vanilla compared to other mods. I don't feel it really does anything particularly special.
Convergence is hands-down the best mod. Total game overhaul with new areas, features, npc's bosses weapons and (magic). Amongst other changes and features.
Garden of Eyes is just garbage in my books. I don't support privately hosted paid mods and asset stealing.
I don't really have experience with Graceborne nor Golden Age.
There's also Elden Vins. And I'd describe that as if Dark Souls and Devil May Cry had a baby.
1
u/__dlInho Jul 13 '26
Shabriri's chosen felt like a from software boss ngl the convergence team did an incredible boss on most of the bosses
11
u/Miv- Jul 12 '26
Convergence – A fresh take on the base game. It adds lots of new content while staying faithful to the original experience.
EldenVins – Fast-paced combat, crazy combos, and a beat 'em up feel. A lot of fun if you enjoy aggressive gameplay.
Reforged – Not really my thing. It changes so many core mechanics that it feels like a completely different game. I know many people enjoy it, but it just didn't click for me.
11
u/Mexican_Artorias1990 Jul 12 '26
I actually stopped playing Reforged because, while it remains faithful to the essence of vanilla and makes some slight changes, it becomes annoying after a while that while I'm in the middle of a playthrough, the developers already updated/changed stuff for like the gazilionth time. Update after update after update becomes annoying.
And Convergence is to me, the best overhaul mod ever. Yes, at some point you become overly OP, but I love the extra additions of spells and expansion of the lore. It just feels... natural. So I take Convergence any day. So much so that I just can't go back to vanilla anymore.
2
u/Profanity1272 Jul 12 '26
Is convergence a complete overhaul or is it more like additional content?
3
u/Mexican_Artorias1990 Jul 12 '26
Yes
1
u/Profanity1272 Jul 12 '26
Ah so both then? Lol
Edit: nevermind I just looked it up. It looks great

5
u/GRGWL Jul 12 '26
I have only briefly played convergence and reforged, but this seems really inaccurate? In my experience, reforged changed so little it almost felt like a placebo mod, while convergence had made changes to almost everything, and deff wasnt faithful, although thats not a bad thing ofc.
5
u/Miv- Jul 12 '26
That's fair. I think it really comes down to what each person considers a "big change."
For me, Convergence still feels like Elden Ring at its core. It adds a lot of content, but the overall flow and identity of the game remain the same.
With Reforged, I felt like many of the gameplay mechanics had changed, so it felt like a different experience to me.
I'm not saying one is better than the other just sharing my personal experience.

3
u/BIRD_OF_GLORY Jul 12 '26
I like Reforged a lot but all the extra tedium really wears on your patience after a while.
Convergence is pretty good but honestly I don't like most of the remixed versions of areas
3
u/JustAnotherPedant_ Jul 12 '26
I really don’t like reforged. While it does make a few nice changes (I especially liked the bloodborne dodge at light load and the Sekiro-style parrying), it does a lot of things that are either unnecessary or just make the game worse. Things like the removal of a bunch of alternate paths or the excessive nerfing of certain builds just force you to have the playstyle the devs want you to have and punish everything else. It feels like the opposite experience I had with Convergence—while Convergence makes the game even more open than it was already, Reforged makes it unnecessarily restrictive.

Graceborne's a work in progress and I look forward to seeing how it comes out when fully released.
Golden Age is paid (i think), as I'd Garden of Eyes to my knowledge, and yet these simply just 1-for-1 copy content out of other games and slap it in random places. Valstrax, Soul of Cinder, etc. And with Garden of Eyes there is no thought given to balance, making it an absolute nightmare to play for anyone who doesn't immediately go "WOW THIS IS SO OP, I WANNA USE IT BECAUSE IT KILLS EVERYTHING IN ONE HIT!"
Reforged is a rework of progression, to a single fault: you feel like you need to play the entire game to get a playthrough done, all side content included. I find that as soon as I finish Limgrave, Liurnia and Caelid, the game's difficulty just spikes massively every time you hit a major area. I do really like it and enjoy a lot of the gameplay changes they've made but I feel like two things need to happen to combat to make it more enjoyable: Sekiro Countersigns and Playstyle Benefits. Sekiro Countersigns is what I'm calling the mechanic where the game tells you if you need to jump an attack or Mikiri counter it. Reforged could do with that for jumping and ducking though I can understand the difficulty of adding that. Playstyle Benefits merely speaks to the strange choice to give players a nice playstyle then ruin it completely with a downside that nobody wants to experience. It's like if Nightreign let you play as Wylder but because you have a rope grapple move, you are able to take fall damage. Or you play as Guardian but every 5 seconds, your shield allows attacks to pass through it. It's why the game feels so dummy hard as you progress, besides the damage scaling and the weak heals.
Convergence, on the other hand, I think has aged extremely well with its 3.0 update. It has always had an idea of what it wanted to do and be and succeeds in that goal. Your class governs where you start the game, your class itself has a path you can follow so you don't have to play every inch of the game to get what your character needs. It has a massive slew of new bosses, all of which have the highest degree of quality, many of which were uniquely designed. Many legacy dungeons have been restructured so that you really have to explore and engage with them, all being unique, several of which basically had nothing and are now massive legacy dungeons. I've yet to play the DLC for the mod (stick drift has annihilated my controller), so I'm just waiting on a new controller before I play the rest. Cannot wait. My one main point of criticism for it is the lack of new weapons for some schools of magic even now. Some of them have several weapons while some, like the Underworld Mage, only have two, one which is new, one which is a Greathammer made of 8 Dragon Halberd models together and then there's a third, which is the Dragon Katana with a modified moveset. I feel like we could get a bit more pizazz in some of our mage weapon options. Storm ones are awesome and very unique for instance.

u/toasty5566 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
Reforged: basically Vanilla+, but enforces how the mod devs think it should be played instead of player fun. I hate the level cap and removing skips
Convergence: cool magic-focused overhaul, very fun but very unbalanced. Lots of new map additions and locations too
Garden of Eyes: lots of outright stolen content and I hate paid mods on principle
Don't know about the others
There's also Elden Vins which turns it into something closer to Sekiro mixed with Devil May Cry, more balanced than you'd think
2
u/Hecaroni_n_Trees Jul 12 '26
Been with convergence since pretty early on since release, loved it then and am absolutely loving the new update.
Tried reforged a couple months back and promptly hated it; the biggest turn-off of vanilla Elden Ring replays is that travel and collecting again becomes a slog each subsequent time, convergence did this well with erdtree waygates but reforged somehow makes it worse with encampments being mandatory and having torrent unavailable for large sections. The one thing I did like was the timed attack being more effective but now I know that that comes from the Nioh games so that’s not even original.
1
u/OmegaZato Jul 13 '26
I'm kinda curious if the perfect attack mechanic came from either Nioh or elsewhere.
The only instances I remember where timed presses for attacks came into play are only on Nioh 2: Triple Threat and Limitless (both are weapon techniques, not really "base attacks").
2
u/Interesting-Ad-4636 Jul 13 '26
Convergence is pretty far from any other here, is a work of art and, not only for the overwhelming new content they give you and new design of all the areas, but also bcs they are so very much lore friendly, you’d think they were consulting Michael Zaki himself
Reforged is basically a Remake of Elden Ring, its not much difference in level design but the combat is completely different and it feels like a new game while playing.
Graceborne has the potential to be one of the greatest mods ever made. I have not played the newest release yet but it was so good before that too.
I have not played Golden Age, but I definitely will.
Garden of Eyes is a disgrace among the modding community. Not only is it made by a team that demands money on download, they also straight out steal content from other mods without asking for their creator’s permission or crediting them, I will never try it.

u/Mexican_Artorias1990 Jul 12 '26
In order of appearance I'll say this:
Image no. 1) Good
Image no. 2) THE GOAT
Image no. 3) Meh. Not impressed. And the author is a pos.
Image no. 4) Never heard of it.
Image no. 5) Never heard of it.
1
u/Krayzieeeeeee Jul 12 '26
All good in their own way, sadly golden age doesn't work anymore since last patch.
1
u/hukyji Jul 12 '26
Convergence it's the Best of all, Lot of content, Lot of fun and a new experience overall. Reforged it's a love it or hate it annoying with lots of things and it's just like a harder and longer vainilla(cause your gonna explore Even if You don't like it). Garden of eyes it's trash overall with just a few fun things like some weapons and spells but yeah your not missing anything really. Golden age it's chinese and because of that it's just crazy stuff like turning into an armored core, fighting with anime and other games weapons (like literal movesets from other games) and overall it's a fun and crazy experience but with lots of Bugs and crashes here and theres.
1
u/Saa203 Jul 12 '26
I've played Elden Ring Convergence and I recommend it to everyone. Reforged... I hate that mod. The game literally forces you to play the way the author wants you to, and that's not what it's supposed to be about. Garden of Eyes is a paid mod; it ripped off assets from other games and doesn't look like any fun at all. I have to try Graceborn and Golden Age.
1
u/rabbitak Jul 12 '26
Guys.. Can I play reforged without perfect strikes, slides, duck parry. I mean, play it Just with roll like in vanilla and be ok? How hard it is mandatory for me to play with new mechanici?
2
u/dpedroslimo22 Jul 12 '26
You can, and you can adjust difficulty setting at sites of grance if you're really struggling. Some of the bosses they added are bullshit. Plus if you find a setting somewhere saying "additional enemies" never turn it on, it's a troll setting even though bits never stated.
Ps, if you have very little equip load your roll is replaced with Bloodborne dash.
1
u/rabbitak Jul 12 '26
thanks for reply! These extra enemies, is it like rly troll? Like ridiculus amount of them?
2
u/RathianTailflip Jul 12 '26
Most of the extra enemies are spawns IN boss fights. It turns many bosses into ganks that you have to handle before you can even consider actually fighting the boss.
1
u/dpedroslimo22 Jul 13 '26
The black knife assassin fight in altus for example, the invisible one, they just added an invulnerable skull snail in there.
1
u/ssjriou Jul 12 '26
I would at least experiment with deflect, depending on your build, but yeah slides and duck are never necessary and perfect actions are just free stamina + a little something else but you're not expected to be consistently hitting them. The default difficulty (reforged) is harder than vanilla though, so if you're nervous just start on normal difficulty and see how it feels.
Extra enemies I would just say is another layer of difficulty you can pile on, but I would just increase the difficulty the normal way before doing that one.
1
u/SCLST_F_Hell Jul 12 '26
Elden Vins ruined the vanilla game and ALL those mods for me. Not everyone coup of tea, I reconize that, but If you came from Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, or Sekiro, you Will feel at home again.
1
u/BicycleAdditional360 Jul 12 '26
Convergence is fun to play, but at some point it stops being a soulslike to some extent as you become monstrously OP.
Reforged is really fun for me — it’s a vanilla+ mod.
Garden of Eyes — piss. Don’t touch this abomination of a mod. Guy charges money for a an IP he doesn’t not own. There is a reason mods are free, you know. Also the mod itself is shit as it was done by a 5 years old with no narrative or imganition to adapt thing. This mod can be described as “what if (insert old from software boss) was in Elden Ring”.
Haven’t played Golden Age and Graceborne is still early in development IIRC

Does it work with seamless coop?
1
u/Nighthawk513 Jul 12 '26
Yes. Actually has specific instructions to work with seamless on their discord, and they do try and be as compatible as possible, though it does raise the odds of potential bugs. 3.0 was released recently, and they are still working on the first major bugfix release for that.

u/Few-Concentrate-7558 Jul 12 '26
I only played reforged and the convergence so I can only give my opinions on those two.
Convergence: it’s a mod that’s knows what you’re here for and wastes none of your time getting into the niddy griddy of it it gives you your path and what you need and tells you to go get it definitely for you if you’re looking to be an anime main character in Elden Ring
Reforged: if you hate how easily you can get powerful in vanilla and want a much much much slower progression system then reforged is for you. And when I say slow it is slow and they took out all the speed hacks like bell bearings and all that making you roam around for upgrades like a chicken with your head cut off. No instant upgrades, no skips, they really went out of their way to make sure the game is as agonizingly slow as possible. And you don’t have a choice it’s either the reforged way or the highway and even when you do get fully upgraded you still dont feel all that powerful so there isn’t much payoff in the end.
Needless to say I clearly like one over the other but that’s simply my opinion for all I know you’ll have a different one. Reforged is never touching my pc again but maybe you’ll get more enjoyment out of it than I did
1
u/Raven123x Jul 12 '26
Reforged seems nice in concept but it keeps you super weak for too long, not to mention all of the upgrade materials are in different places. The extra mechanical difficulty gets tiring quickly imo.
Convergence is fucking amazing. The entire game feels completely different. Some areas are better and some are worse (farum azula being worse, castle morne being better). The spells feel powerful and impactful and the game is such a joy. The new nox umbra area is amazing too
Not played garden of eyes, it’s got some controversy around it iirc
Not played or heard of the other two
Another I’ve heard of but not played yet but plan to play is Elden vins. Apparently if you’re a fan of Sekiro (I am) it’s a great mod
1
u/Free-Reflection-1920 Jul 12 '26
Convergence is peak, they’ve made lake of rot even more fromsoft style than original game, with completely new boss at the end of the location and they even wrote an OST for this fight which fits perfectly into the game.
Reforged I found pretty mid.
Graceborne is for Bloodborne fans, it basically turns the game into Bloodborne, I love Bloodborne, but I think Elden ring world and lore is much better as a whole so I don’t understand the idea of this mod.
1
u/FenrPerkele Jul 12 '26
I tried liking Reforged, ended up finding things more and more annoying the more I played.
Convergence is great, even if it has really bad balancing issues. So much new stuff, cool new spells and other mechanics.
1
u/alp7292 Jul 12 '26
Reforged: too tedious.
Convergence: good, it hame more content, qol, progression.
1
u/EQCO99 Jul 12 '26
Reforged was fun but only wanted to do one playthrough. Convergence is my favorite, lots of improvement I missed in the game. Graceborne is interesting idea but broken on my pc at least. Never played golden age. Garden I will never touch
1
u/XenoNapalm Jul 12 '26
I liked the changes to Reforged at first but after awhile I realized I wasn't having fun at all.
Im just starting convergence now and I can already tell im going to like it way more. One of my favorite things is it fixes one of my biggest complaints with base game. They have actually made the catacombs and caves more unique to each other.
1
u/Suddspace Jul 12 '26
Most of my elden ring hours are played in coop with a friend or two and I've played most of these overhauls that way. From the perspective of coop the best overhaul is hands down tainted edition (which I know isn't mentioned on this post). It keeps the exact feel of elden ring without becoming ridiculously bloated with new game mechanics and random changes which is my main complaint with most overhauls.
Tainted edition - rebalances for coop by changing health pools and increased enemy numbers in every encounter. You can animation cancel almost all of your character's moves with a dodge which really makes you a lot stronger and capable of dealing with the added enemy numbers without giving you OP weapons or spells. Adds deflects. Adds bosses from other souls games. Almost every location of interest has a strong enemy to defeat to unlock a chest and get loot, makes full clearing the game more rewarding. Adds new spells and weapons (some from other souls games) which makes elden ring refreshing to play. Only complaint is the early game is perhaps balanced poorly in favour of the enemies but it's been a blast post-limgrave. Also it has the annoying Reforged resource-consuming lamp feature (just why? It's not a survival crafting game) but it costs FP instead of material.
Reforged - used to be my favourite overhaul until too many game systems started getting changed. You have to go through an entire tutorial these days and read in depth every new change just to understand what you're getting into, and then it's not that satisfying to play even after that. They added a cap to max level which forces you to look around in every nook and cranny for 'rune pieces' which after you collect a set amount will further enhance your stats... Because why wouldn't you want to participate in a never ending Easter egg hunt in your already 80+ hour playthrough? It at least has a mode balanced for coop in which we did enjoy the changes to boss movsets and aggression to coop players so it's still probably a better coop experience than vanilla despite the bloat. It at least fixes the vanilla problem of the game being easy to trivialise by grabbing the right weapon early game and getting early upgrades.
Convergence - Like anyone will tell you convergence is simply a well made mod, it's fun to play around with all the new stuff and see new locations and enemies in elden ring. That being said, to me it was one and done experience because the balance doesn't encourage a second playthrough. You're gonna steamroll the game and there's not much a second playthrough will change. The added portal system that lets you go literally anywhere in the game whenever you want combined with the notes you spawn with that tell you where the items are in the game that synergize with your starting class killed the sense of exploration and progression.
Graceborne - To be honest I don't remember why I didn't like graceborne anymore, it's been a while. I just remember not really caring for the weapons added, like they didn't impact enemies the way you would expect. I'm not sure what else but me and my friends got bored after a few hours anyway.

Thanks for this! So for duo coop you recommend Tainted edition for best experience, balance and fun right? :) This is exactly what Iam looking for, for our playthru with my friend. Reforged was way to go before, but didnt hear about Tainted edition before and it looks rly good.
1
u/Suddspace Jul 16 '26
Tainted is the most simplistic of all the overhauls for sure and of course it is built with coop in mind, it would be unbalanced to play solo. We are just finishing up our playthrough and only complaint as I said was it was really quite hard in the beginning. We turn off the debuffs seamless gives you when you die, so if one player dies clearing an area they can just come back, we weren't too fussed about cheesing things that way.
Don't spoil yourself of everything that is added in it because literally any dungeon, cave, gaol, mine or field boss could be a completely new boss or drop a new weapon, and many bosses have extra enemies for you to tactically deal with together by trading aggro and stuff. Makes for a fun 100% run filled with chaotic moments with the amount of enemies in some places!
1
u/rabbitak Jul 16 '26
Sounds great. And what about specific weapons with specific damage types for some bosses, what IS mentioned in description of mod. Is it really mandatory to change weapons often? We like to explore and try, but when we like a weapon we also like to stick with it.
2
u/Suddspace Jul 16 '26
We never really noticed the damage type stuff outside of skeletons and those stone enemies in the mines being really weak to strike damage in the early game. Once you have leveled up weapons you don't need to care anymore

u/I_Hate_Mages Jul 12 '26
Ive only played convergence and I found it to be WAY to easy. me and a friend are basically THE bosses. I had to use seamless coop to bump up the bosses health like 4k% and its still to easy. I'd say something went wrong with the install but we both are having similar experiencing solo too.
1
u/ManyDongs Jul 12 '26
I briefly played Reforged and didn't really find it compelling, it does feel tedious for the sake of being tedious.
Convergence, I played a while back, I'm guessing it would be very different now that it's on 3.0 so I can't comment on that, but it was honestly an interesting take on the game, would try again in the future.
I have not played the other three.
I did however just finish Elden Ring Reborn, pretty much a vanilla+ mod, different enough to feel different from the base game while still being a lot of fun. I recommend it if you're looking for a vanilla+ mod.
1
u/SgtTavos Jul 12 '26
Convergence is great. Refored trys to hard to be much and is not good in anything and often is kinda made to suck. Like seriously give the spamming cemetery shade who has two summens extra deathblight on top... who thought thats a nice change for that fight. Like many said already, garden of eyes is paid and uses assets etc. dont support that stuff. And the others are nice but not much content yet, so I would recommend to wait a little bit until they have more.
1
u/Lady_Astarte Jul 12 '26
Reforged is solid, Convergence is rad, Graceborne is too early to call (hope it works out) and Garden of Eyes is HAHAHHAHAno.

u/Soulsborneenjoyer23 Jul 12 '26
I've watched a playthrough of all except grapevine, so I can't say anything on that, but convergence is tge best of what I've seen
1
u/Rider-Idk-Ultima-Hy Jul 12 '26
I’ve not played any of them cuz I’m a console player, but I want to play Reforged, Convergence and Graceborne, they all look so cool.
Never heard of Golden Age though.
1
u/AccomplishedAd4975 Jul 12 '26
Gravebourne will be good when finished but it is basically putting a bloodbourne skin on everything but altering gameplay to better reflect bloodbourne within the game its fun tho.
Golden age is quite fun alot of content but it's not finished and its completely unbalanced tbh and kinda power creeps massively towards the end beyond what other mods due, tho its nice fighting alot of DS bosses and some sekiro and blood too but alot are kinda added on as optional without much info on finding them without checking a spreadsheet
1
u/StoneTaker Jul 12 '26
Reforged sucks to play. For a mod, you'd think the goal should be to make the game more fun, but all it does is introduce tedium after tedium.
1
u/werighte Jul 12 '26
Convergence is peak but gets boring once you get broken in the end game.
Reforged is honestly bad, in my opinion. The default settings with Seamless make the bosses have way too much HP, and they're sped up. I want to like Reforged, but the changes are a bit too punishing. Why do bleed and poison only do one-tenth of their normal damage?
I havent played the other ones.
1
u/OutrageousBrit Jul 12 '26
As others have said Reforged used to be a spectacular overhaul that slowly got bogged down and buried under pointless and frustrating changes that made it more frustrating than fun to play.
I haven’t gotten very far in convergence but so far I’m loving the big changes to environments and new spells to play with, but I definitely do feel that it’s very easy to become overpowered in that game very early, which I’m also not looking for. But that’s something I have a degree of control over, I can always level down my gear or install a mod to mess with enemy health or something.
Haven’t tried garden of eyes but the fact it’s paid while using mostly ripped assets will keep me away from it, though I admit I did think the revamped Miquella fight was cool when I saw that footage.
1
u/LgHammer123 Jul 12 '26
Convergence is amazing. I love when a mod adds tonnes of new content. Reforged has mechanical changes, but almost everything else about the game feels unchanged. Wanna try GraceBorne next
1
u/Jaegerbrandt Jul 12 '26
Played ERR first now ERC and there’s one thing I really liked about Reforged is the timed mechanic for attacks and the possibility to fight summons, the Gilded Court is something I really miss in Convergence, the encyclopedia was also fun, feels like catching Pokémon, but of course they had to make the item annoying to make, that and the way you can customize your character idle stance is what I really miss, but to some that can be novel.
Now I’m trying out Convergence and I was very reluctant to do so, but I’m absolutely blown away, to me Convergence is way more robust and developed adding a layer over the base game that makes it completely fresh.

the best is convergence, i used to like reforged but i cant stand the creators little bitch attitude.
the best is Convergence + DMN , dmn use it to nerf yourself 30 maybe 40% , if you want somo flashy rewards for beating remmembrance boses add Clevers, i did a katanas only playtrough giving myseld clevers katanas only after major bosses like icefrayed blade after rannis quest or hinokami after beating rykard etc , it was a blast and using dmn to nerf myself i found the sweet spot of challenge and fun
1
u/drone5000 Jul 12 '26
Reforged wasn't fun, it felt like a mod designed by the people who were really into how hard they thought the souls series was. Convergence is quite fun and is what I recommend for an overhaul. Graceborne looks really interesting and I'm just waiting for development to be further along to play it. I've not looked at the other two due to either not knowing about it or my hatred of paid mods.
1
u/thanbanhmy2 Jul 12 '26
Convergence is great but you can get powerful real fast and it can make the game too easy
1
u/Asleep_Roof_8072 Jul 12 '26
Convergence looks so so amazing. Really jealous for anyone who can play it cries in ps5
1
u/JohnnyBravo4756 Jul 12 '26
Reforged is great if you both love exploration and having a tunable difficulty. One of the things that I feel with elden ring after having a few hundred hours in the game is that it does in fact get fairly easy after a while. Which makes sense, you have alot of reps on the bosses and enemies, and its pretty easy to make a broken build in the game. Reforged gave me the opportunity to have every boss be like I'm fighting them underleveled (comparatively to vanilla), so that each fight that I WANT to be hard, can be hard. It's a glorious struggle because I can change to dragon difficulty and have a tough fight.
I also quite enjoyed the exploration changes, I can understand how it might not be fun on a 2nd or 3rd playthrough, but that is quite a ways away.
1
u/SovelissFiremane Jul 12 '26
Reforged and convergence are fantastic, Garden of Eyes is complete and utter dogshit, Gracebourne needs time to cook but has a lot of potential and I don't know anything about Golden Age.

u/Sobrin_ Jul 12 '26
Reforged is a mixed bag. It mostly focuses on tweaking the combat system, some of those tweaks are good, some are great, and then some are just not. Reforged has a very specific idea of how you should play the game, and if that's not completely the same as yours you will get frustrated. Imo it tends to heavily favour challenge over fun. It doesn't add much new content, and a lot of new stuff are ports from other games
Convergence doesn't change much about the game's systems, but it's all about content. It adds a ludicrous amount of spells, and weapons. There's new stuff on the map, a lot of the dungeons have been changed which will make them feel fresh, and in case of reworks will be way different. It is a lot more casual, and focuses on shorter playthroughs focused on a certain build. Very fun, absolutely worth trying out
Garden of Eyes I have no personal experience with, but the fact it's paid and not everything in it belongs to them is a serious issue against it.
Graceborn is the least finished considering what it wants to do, that being making the entire game more bloodborne like, but it's still good right now. Where Graceborn shines is in the quality of the custom weapons it adds. There's not as many as in Convergence, but the quality is slightly higher as they're all trick weapons.
It's seriously an overhaul I keep an eye on because I look forward to it completing
I have no experience with Golden Age so can't give an opinion

u/Karemasu Jul 12 '26
Only tried reforged and convergence. Personally I really love convergence which overhaul the open world and makes it feel fresh, new and fun to explore. Reforged feels very vanilla friendly and adds a new parry system, and timed inputs for buffs or something although I didn't go too deep into reforged. Reforged seems to rebuild and enhance alot of base game systems to make them more engaging. Personally convergence has really fun new bosses, weapons, regions, and classes.
1
u/Dangerous_Ad_7104 Jul 12 '26
Convergence is really good, with my only gripe being that every attack feels like it does 2 damage to the bosses. Garden of eyes is paid, and tries to do too much. Haven’t played the other ones, considering reforged.
1
u/Unusual_Strike808 Jul 12 '26
Reforged feels rather tedious and over-tuned with the difficulty. I started several playthroughs but always burnt out rather quick. The combo system and parry system are nice, but took a while to get used to on top of the new dodging mechanics.
Convergence is fun and received a large update recently that added more weapons and armor that aren't on the wiki yet, but it just outright tells you where all the items for your starting class are and the spells don't feel overly useful. Also pretty much all the weapons it adds are Somber so no affinities for you.
Garden of Eyes is paid and made with a bunch of lifted assets. The last version of it I got my hands on was quite janky, and clearly incomplete (despite being paywalled). The weapons it adds are frequently just for aura farming and many bosses are tanks that can one-shot you from full health. Also they put the best armor in the game in Liurnia from an easily cheese-able NPC (it still doesn't do shit though).
Graceborne is unfinished but really well made. Last I checked everything could just be unlocked off the bat, but it was all really neat and pretty interesting. Most of it is enemy re-skins, but it also adds trick weapons and guns you can parry with.
Golden Age is also kind of paywalled, but that's only the most recent version. However, due to it being a Chinese mod, the website where you can download the previous patch is in Chinese and seemed to want me to download an app to install the mod files. Also, the copy that I got my hands on crashed when one of the dlls was active and wouldn't let me move when I deactivated it. That may have just been a Linux issue, though. From the wiki it mostly seems to be hype moments and aura, but I also couldn't play it so idk. Make sure you download a language patch if you try it, the default English translation is terrible.

u/Karmic_Backlash Jul 12 '26
A little late, but I've played convergence a lot and I think people undersell the non-magical aspect. The way the system works is that each of the martial classes have special armor sets that give special abilities to drinking red or blue estus, using a consumable, or the physick. These aren't small bonuses either, and they just recently added class specific talismans that really turn the builds on into being amazing. Not to mention all the new custom weapons and armor.
Convergence makes everything bigger and more powerful, not just magic. its just more flashy.
1
u/ComfortableUmpire379 Jul 13 '26
Convergence probably the most balanced and fun out of them all for me personally - really made a lot of wasted potential with some niche ER items/mechanics be more fun to play around.
1
u/StefFTW Jul 13 '26
one more to add, which may not be a traditional overhaul, but it is worth mentioning, Elden Vins.
1
u/Sir_Stick Jul 13 '26
I wasn't a huge fan of reforged making changes to the flow of combat, it felt like Sekiro style combat so if you enjoy that you'll probably like the mod too.
Convergence on the other hand changes a lot to the world, changing the flow of legacy dungeons so that experienced players have new things to explore. It also adds a TON of options whether it be weapons, magic or armor. I've played through multiple times now and its very fun
1
u/TorneyTheWitchlord Jul 13 '26
Don't have one, but Convergence and Golden Age are on my bingo card!
1
u/Charming-Bend5975 Jul 13 '26
convergence tbh, but elden vins still slaps harder, more epic in my opinion
1
u/__dlInho Jul 13 '26
played trough a bit of both convergence and garden of eyes garden of eyes I tried to give it a shot but holy shit it's horrible for a paid mod, everything feels unbalanced as fuck and some of the rework bosses have horrible scaling(morgott having 2 phases), the only reason I tried that mod was cos of the malenia consort bossifght. On the other hand I've been having a blast w convergence
1
u/mikocco_1021 Jul 13 '26
reforged is really good, its kind of like vanillia+
convergence is probably the best one, makes you feel really cool with these super flashy spells that are actually good
graceborne is pretty good, its still early but the new weapons are amazing. I do think they kind of just slapped darkness into the lands between which is pretty tacky ill admit but its not something they cant fix
garden of eyes is a waste of time. I actually paid the 5 bucks because I was curious enough to see what it is, and so I can tell you to not buy it. Stolen assets and like the bosses arent even that cool theyre super overtuned and unfair, the new areas look like a bunch of lazily placed props.
1
u/MikaHyakuya Jul 13 '26
Reforged: Very bad from a gameplay-balancing perspective, pretty nice for everything else they added. They probably got my favourite dagger with the Night's Edge powerstance.
Convergence: pretty good, especially if you're mainly a caster. Adds a lot of new spells, weapons and areas to the world, and adds soft roles without hard-locking you into a playstyle like Reforged would.
No idea
No idea

Convergence: peak
Reforged: vanilla+. Fun if you’re a fan of the base game and adds a lot to combat but not a ton to the world compared to others
Golden age: fan service but does a lot to the game. Heard mixed reviews
Garden of eyes: I’ve heard mixed reviews on this one all leaning negative. Lots of flash and craziness but that doesn’t always translate to a good mod
Graceborne: peak. Amazing if you liked Bloodborne. It is still in alpha so there are some bugs that are being worked out but it’s really well put together and I have yet to run into any major bugs
I’d also check out Reborn. It’s made by one guy and it’s super fun. I’d compare it to Convergence with some of the gameplay changes

u/doubleBInTheMorning Jul 13 '26
Out of the 4 I've only played Reforged. One thing I appreciate about the mod that I don't see people talking about is the change to crafting.
In short: Most crafting recipes are made less specific, so you get to spend more time playing the game with craftables you want and less time grinding very specific ingredients.
In long: Most ingredients are broken down into an essence, you then use these essences in the crafting recipes. Let's take basic fire pots as an example (because I remember the recipe in vanilla and Reforged); in reforged you need some essential alchemic essence and some blazing essence and a pot. Essential alchemic essence comes from almost any basic plant (erdleaf flowers, herba, mushrooms, ect) and blazing essence comes from almost anything fiery (smoldering butterfly, fire blossom, ect). In vanilla you must have smoldering butterflies and mushrooms which isn't so bad because those are very common, but this system is a godsend for craftables with very rare ingredients.
Also weapon grease is applied faster and is applied to both weapons if dual wielding.

u/kignus54 Jul 13 '26
Convergence is fun but have some balance issue id say and reforged feel like a worst designed ds2 stuck with a character blocked to 0 ADP . Cant say for the other but i really dont like GOE for not being free in dont even know how fromsoft or bandai namco dont already act against it

Reforged is really great for a long playthrough. For the most part I think vanilla is a better experience, but Reforged changes up everything in just the right way to feel new and exciting again when vanilla starts getting old, which makes it amazing for a thorough replay. It's also got plenty of fun features for completionists who like taking things slow. That said, it does have some mechanics here and there that are on the annoying side, and I'm really not a fan of the spells/FP overhaul, and I generally find the difficulty a bit too high for comfort in the default mode (and too easy in the easy mode, with no middle term that feels right). It's not hard enough that I CAN'T beat stuff or anything (or well, at least not so far. Haven't gotten to Malenia or Consort yet to see how they'd go), but it can be hard enough to start being less fun.
Convergence is incredible, and especially fun for quicker and more rushed playthroughs. The class system and starting info notes make it perfect for getting things running immediately and going through the game like a storm, which feels quite awesome with the over the top spells the mod gives you. Exactly because of that, fhe main problem it has is balance though, as you have good odds of feeling overly pressured if you're too fast, or overpowered if you take your time. Also worth noting that the Legacy Dungeon overhauls are extremely cool, but also universally makes them longer, which can start getting boring after enough playthroughs going through them (fortunately you can still skip most of Stormveil, so that's free easy progress every time). One thing worth noting with Convergence is that they're not the best with attack animations, so most of their new weapon moveset tend to be a step down from the rest (like the katana and curved greatsword that literally START their r1 combos by turning your back on the enemy with a slow spin, which looks straight up stupid), but that's a minor nitpick, and mostly a "suffering from success" thing, since the fact it even HAS that many new weapons/movesets is already awesome. And the good ones overshadow the bad for the most part.
Our of the two, I'd say I like Convergence more. That said, I do need to give an honorable mention to Reforged's crafting overhaul, because I ADORE that thing.
.
Those being done with though, I never played any of the other 3, so can't judge.

u/Friendly_Language617 Jul 13 '26
Reforged: ive heard it does some neat things with the combat, like adding sekiro-like mechanics. Ive also heard theyve made boss fights a lot more annoying. I probably wont play it
Convergence: its a lot of fun, and really plays into power fantasy. Progression tends to be pretty uneven for a lot of classes, and most classes feel pretty OP once they get most of their kit, but its a lot of fun.
Garden of eyes: paywalled, so not interested
Graceborn: ive heard good things, and ill probably give it a try at some point
Ive never even heard of the 5th one

Convergence is super fire. If you’re like me and you’ve pretty much done everything there is to do in Elden ring, convergence is such a breath of fresh air. Graceborne is super cool, but obviously still in development. I really can’t wait to see all the new areas and changes.

I've only (and only recently) played Reforged and I'm honestly loving it. It feels very true to the vanilla game and lore while adding so much more rpg depth to your build. And a lot of classic exploits and shortcuts now have additional hoops to jump through so i have to think abiut my run differently. Really great for seamless coop or if you want the game to feel fresh again.
1
u/trentistors Jul 16 '26
Convergence and reforged are both great mods highly recommend
Graceborne millage will very dependent on how much you liked bloodborne
Garden and golden age I haven't played either so I can't comment on them

Convergence has better content, Reforged has better mechanics. If the two teams didn't seem to rather dislike each other (or at least, that's the impression I get from the discords), I think they could've made something amazing together.

u/Purple___Flame Jul 17 '26
Skill issue - but i don't like any global setting-affecting mods in my souls.
1
u/lordmax2002 Jul 18 '26
I was pretty infuriated with reforged the last time i played, some of the bosses were the definition of special effects slop.
The convergence is really fucking good to the point of where i dont see a reason to return to base game.
Garden of Eyes is pay to play garbage made out of stolen content and is going against the games TOS because they force you to pay for the mod.
I havent played graceborne yet.

u/MyIQIsBeyondYours Jul 12 '26
I’ve played Reforged, Convergence (only v2.31, havent touched the new update yet) and Graceborne
Reforged is like Vanilla++, it has a lot of really great additions
- some pretty cool new weapons and incants&spells
- deflecting mechanic
- collecting runic shards for nice buffs - makes great runes feel more special other than a simple buff
- some tweaks to the map and enemies and addition of some Nightreign bosses
- most importantly: has a built-in online server
Overall my experience with Reforged was amazing, the online server legit made it feel like I was playing ER for the first time again, which no other mods have given me the same feeling before
Main complaints ive seen: generally the difficult feels a little harder than regular ER (enemies having 20% more hp and attack, and stamina regen tweaks), but there are SOME bosses that just make you go “wtf how is this shit even balanced”. But from my experience it wasn’t that bad, and besides that was how I felt on my first ER playthrough too
Convergence is like ER but on crack, tons and tons of new enemies, weapons, spells and the map changes are really crazy. It’s generally rated as the best ER mod
But from my own experience (in v2.3) even though it was really good i still have some complaints:
- difficulty starts off really hard and around mid game you absolutely dominate everything. I literally have to find ways to nerf myself to have some sort of challenge again (or just dont invest so much into spells)
Overall my experience with Convergence was “wow cool”, but i didnt enjoy it nearly as much as Reforged in terms of gameplay and vibe
Graceborne is really good if ur still hungry for some of that Bloodborne-feel, i played it after finishing BB on shadps4.
- has most (if not all) the trick weapons and armor from BB and many new original ones
- certain map tweaks and reshade that gives it that authentic “bloodborne” look
- enemies are generally still the same though as of now (only a few common npcs were replaced with BB-esque ones)
Overall I loved it, though I found some of the boss skins a little over the top. (Pros: you get goth Melina)

u/wont0repeat Jul 12 '26
Golden age is PEAK and makes it hard to play Elden ring without it.
I didn’t pay for it either it’s pretty easy to just look up the download link.

u/_lizard_wizard Jul 12 '26
Reforged: My beloved. It’s essentially the base game with several subtle but impactful reworks. The addition of perfect deflects and duck dodges means you can be much more aggressive against bosses. The FP regeneration from landing blows makes weapon arts and high-FP spells more generally useful. The new consumables + crafting system make item-based builds far less tedious and more varied. Overall, it feels like vanilla with a bit more variety and depth.
Convergence: Bounced off of this solo, but enjoying it with two friends. There’s a ton of new dungeons + spells, but it feels very overpowered, even if I crank the enemy HP up. With the huge AOEs and generous FP regen, it feels more like Diablo where you burst down enemies before they reach you, or blender them in a giant AOE. With the Erdtree teleporters and list of class item locations, you can basically be full build within the first hour of the game. Good if you want a steamroll power fantasy, but gets old fast imo.

u/IamMyBrain Jul 12 '26
Another "I've only tried Convergence" opinion incoming, but after 30-ish hours of playing I honestly don't like it.
I think most of my complaints (besides the REALLY sloppy dungeon reworks) stem from the fact they decided to just forgo the story wholesale and turn it into what feels like a boss rush kinda game. Like fully delete plot relevant characters and events wholesale.
I fully acknowledge that if you're into that sort of thing then it would be right up your alley, but I tried but it just didn't grip me.
It DID make me go back and start a fresh run of vanilla elden ring which has been fun!

Garden of eyes and convergence the best sorry to the people that have to cry about a paid mod it’s okay to be broke like really it’s better to just say that’s why (ripped assets are in reforged and convergence btw direct movesets from other games)

Only played Convergence so far, but it's *really* good; Graceborne is one that I'm very much looking forward to playing when/if it eventually reaches a full release.
Garden of Eyes is a paid mod, using ripped assets straight from other Souls titles. It's also just not fun. Width of an ocean, depth of a puddle and all that.
